You can add a friend in three ways:
1. enter the email address they used to create their battle.net account
2. enter their starcraft name and character code (hold mouse over your profile picture in the starcraft menu to find your code)
3. find them via facebook connection if you are facebook friends

All of these methods can be accessed by clicking the friend button at the lower right of the starcraft menu and then clicking 'add friend'

I am in Kuwait now, the next few days I will be in Dubai. While in those cities I can get on the battle.net. Thursday I fly back to Kandahar, the battle.net is bloked there. I won’t be able to play multiplayer until I get back to civilization.
