...so I will at last be updating the forums at some point over the weekend. So if the world ends in a catastrophic yet humourous manner, then you will know the reason. |

Update complete. If you notice anything broken post here. I've replace the captcha with a simple Q&A challenge, so we'll see how that goes for a while. |

Thanks Obo. The last couple of times I jumped on to catch up I ended up having to clean up a bunch of spam, so I imagine it sucks for you too. It will be nice if this reduces that. |

I've been meaning to ask, but should those of us with delete rights be cleaning up those posts, or do you (admins) need to see them so you can lock down the account they came from? |

For obvious spam just perma-ban and delete the posts. We typically just delete the account and all their posts in one go anyway when we see them (which is only slightly more efficient than banning as we don't have to chase down all the individual posts to get rid of). If there is a really weird looking post with some odd links that look like they might be trying to exploit something then we'll ship that off somewhere safe so I can have a look at it. So far no new accounts have been created, so looking good for now. |

DF, I believe if you have delete rights then you probably have Ban rights as well. However it may be a moot point now. |

We had a good stint, but looks like the bots are getting through again. |

I'm not sure what you are running into, but the few I've had to deal with recently were manual spammers. Non-Bots that manually created users and posted. I actually caught one of them online and happily banned him before he posted a second post. |

It has been a really long time since I've registered, and I've never gone back and done another account, so I don't remember the requirements, but can't we add email verification to the list of necessary things to make an account? Or do we already so that? I know it is pretty easy to make throwaway email accounts, but it is one more PITA for the spammers when you ban that email account. I don't suppose you can block all ISPs from Russia and China too? |

The registration code should do the trick. I had the same issues with the forums I ran and that's what finally solved our problems. Turned off CAPTCHA, email verification, logic verification, etc. |

There seems to be a curious bug whereby Gui's locked announcements won't mark as read for me. Anyone else having the same trouble? |

I've finally managed to solve it by clicking the "mark all topics read" link. |

Secret super invisible code created by sacrificing a small lamb over my keyboard while posting an Announcement. |
