No, really .. thanks to Rho allowing me to heal him and his pet I was able to finally get the necessary skills for Novice Doctor. So, I ask Davni to teach me .. we chat for a second or two .. then, I hear this loud "POP" sound .... and then, I smell smoke!! I see RED inside my computer case! I jump up and run get a cup of water ... I mean RUN .. snatch the cord from the wall and douse the computer. Right now I'm not gonna touch it. I've heard that even though things are unplugged they can still carry a charge for a bit. I'm just gonna let that computer die out. Hopefully I can salvage some parts from it. I guess tomorrow I'll be running to the computer store.

Anyone ever have this happen? Being serious, I can't imagine what would have happened if this would have happened in the middle of the night when I was in bed :( Well .. I've got this little crappy computer I'm on right now. You may see me online over the next day or so .. but, if so I'll just be doing some factory work or some grind crafting. SWG is VERY laggy and slow on this computer. Hopefully I'll be back into "hunting" shape by the weekend.

Wow that is unfortunate nas....

From now on i'm going to keep a cup of sand next to my pc after hearing that.

hopefully you should be able to salvage the peripherals like the harddisk and cd/dvd, but i bet the memory mobo and cpu will be fried....

water is not good for pc's....unless its distilled.

30 volts of static is all it takes. Hope you weren't rubbin socks on the rug or anything. :P Mine's fried too... but in a different way. Now I'm stuck on a 333mhz Celeron for the next month, with <56k.

Throwing water on your computer was a bad thing to do. You could risk damaging it even further. It's better to use a fire extinguisher.

Basic extincts is to use water, but that's kind of bad. With the fire I suppoe you were screwed anyway, but the water could've shorted out other stuff you may have been able to save. :P

I dunno actually....but unplugging your computer was the good thing to do.

Using a towel and putting it out that way could probably work.

I think most things are screwed. I got a new power supply today (Sat) .. hooked it up .. first thing, video card did not work. OK, hooked up another vid card. Second, didn't recognize any hard drives .. ok .. *sigh*. I think it's toast. Gonna call my insurance agent Monday and see if it's covered under home owners. Hope it is. This SUCKS playing on a 1Ghz computer with 512 Ram ... hehe, its SO choppy and sluggish. That's why I've not been online very much at all this week. Only for about 30 minutes or so each day just to plug in some items into the factory.

Woo-Hoo! My insurance agent said the check is in the mail! Since that's the case I went ahead and got an Asus P4C800-E Delux, P4 2.8 800FSB, and 2x512 pc3500 Ram! Woo-Hoo! Also picked up a Ati 9800 Pro! Looking forward to actually playing on a good computer ... I'm done installing the OS and just patching up xp now. Hope to have SWG installed before I go to bed!

you know that they have had about 100 times more problems with 9800's than with the ti5900's right?

What kinds of problems, tob? I've had mine for about three months - so far it's been perfect (and fast! ;) )

On the Swg boards there are a boatload of problems listed for for all those cards, like 10 x's as many as all the others. Good luck with it.
