Hey everyone,

Im doing a Power Point project on Hannibal, the guy who went over the Alps during the 2nd Punic War. I dont need any info help but what I am looking for is more media. I really, really want to find some kind of movie that would have some kind of connection. If anybody has anything please let me know.

I also could use some pics, especially of his elephants and maybe some of the invantry in formations.

Pics of Chartage would help and oh! I am looking for a nice sized Map of the Roman Empire during the 2nd Punic War (218- 201 BCE)

I would like to make a lage map of Hannibal's movements into Europe becuase the only maps I have found on the web are very small.

If you find anything let me know, but I am not in trouble, just looking for more stuff.

Also, if anyone has any cool tips and/or tricks for power point plz let me know, I would like to wow the class.

I have probably spent at least one entire year of my life as a PowerPoint Ranger (or briefing people more powerful then presidents of some countries).

The best tricks that I use seem to make a really good impact:

1) Take all your title text into Photoshop, Bevel it, put on a Lighting Flare, then convert it to 100 pixels/inch and save it as a gif and open it in your PP.

2) Never use the default backgrounds - always play with the Background Master, and make a new background - I like a rectangle that fades gradually from black to blue. Always fade when you can.

3) Make sure your text is BIG - never put more than 5 sentences on one slide. NEVER put a paragraph of text - no onw eill read it. Use bullet statements that concisely summarize your point.

4) Always use embeded animated GIFs if you can. Stay away from the scrolling screen transitions - those are too easy. Go for polished effects that look "difficult" and subtle.

5) Always turn your screensaver/password lock off before giving a brief.

6) Never read off the slide. Your audience (hopefully) can read. Add text to the slide, and pause dramatically before giving the big points.

7) Make sure to start off with a quick joke... nothing complicated, just enough to make them stay awake. I like "Hi, I'm Captain Yak, and for the next 3 and a half hours, I'm going to brief you on Hannibal's favorite Wookie." Alternatively, ask someone in the audience a direct question - it'll make them a bit defensive and keep them alert

8) Keep eye contact, smile, and make sure to look at everyone in the audience at least once. Smile to yourself at something you've said, almost like you're laughing at an inside joke that they're not smart enough to have understood.

9) Always end with a joke that you tell so seriously that they think it's part of your brief. When they finally get it, they'll start laughing as you're taking your seat.

10) Always end your brief with "In conclusion, I am the Yak and I just told you about Hannibal, his army, and how amazingly similar the smell of Wookies and oxen are. Do you have any questions?"

The game Ceasar III had some cool movies if I remember correctly, although these days they might be considered obsolete. There was a special sequence when the Carthaginians attacked, with a battle elephant and all. And when you beat them I think you saw the elephant being taken down.

I think there was an animation of the elephants coming across the mountains in the real game (the image in the middle of the screenshot above).

Try DLing the demo at gamespot.com or somewhere, maybe there are animations and such in the form of readable files.

I know everyone has been waiting for an update on my project

I got m grade back, I got a 94, an A.

To put it bluntly, the Power Point did better than I. I stumbled on a bunch of words and basicly was a bad speaker. However, MY PP was awsome and everyone was amazed with the visuals I bombarded them with :)

Thank you every one who helped out. I appriciate the time you took to help out a fellow Avian.

Hehe, that's cool. You gotta shoot all your guns at once, right? :) Just curious, did you get any cool animations or just still pictures?

I used very basic animation for the maps, I actually found some elephant movs so I had to convert it and it got messy so I decided it was too much effort of 8 seconds of a clip.

I also used animation for the Battle of Cannae, Hannibal's biggest win aganst Rome. I found a great set of overviews of battle formations that I animated with arrows and such, nothing too over the top. For the most part it was still pictures with the Windows supplied Stratigeic background
