Yea, you'll need to reinstall the drivers.

My advice is : format before reinstalling.
Reinstalling Windows without formating can cause you problems later.

Yes, yes, to Flyoc you listen.

If you just reinstall, it may fix problems, but 9 out of 10 times it will cause more problems than you fixed a month down the road. I did this once, and was forced to format a couple weeks later anyway, as I had all kinds of conflicts in the OS. When you just reinstall, for some reason it doesn't overwrite everything, and some things will crop back up into the system and screw things up.

I have to say i agree with the people that say Re-installing without a format is a bad idea.

Windows only needs a minor excuse to screw up...

If you absolutely have to keep your machine then make sure you delete all files (not folders tho.. :) in the root directory (C:\ ) and remove the WINDOWS or WINNT directory completely, if you need to boot to command prompt to do this then thats fine.

There's also the strong possiblity that it will mess up any programs that you have installed already. If you have a CD/DVD burner, I'd just burn what files you want to keep, format, and reinstall everything. You might have to end up doing it anyways.

Besides, there's nothing like that fresh clean feeling of a formatted HD.

And once you do reformat, hate it though you will, install Norton Ghost, and let it back everything up. Then it only takes you 5 or 10 minutes to completely go back to your original configuration, instead of a couple hours.

But, make sure you go to all the websites for your hardware and download the drivers first and stick them on a floppy disk!!!!

Especially the network drivers!!!

Nothing's worse then reformatting and reinstalling and having windows not recognize your network card so that you can't get on the web to get your drivers....

Then again, Windows XP probably won't have any of these problems.. they've fixed most of that. It's still a good idea though.

(PS - I vote format, also)

Well, in my 7,8 or 9 years (I can't honestly remember) of owning a PC, I have never ever ever ever reformated my hard drive. Conciquently, there are some things on my current computer (I transfer the hard drives to the new computer as I build them) that are 9 years old! It also means that my computer is one of the most inefficient computers in existance! Plus I'm still running windows 98 which makes the problem ten times worse!

Considering all that, it still runs quite well!

X2

PS the only time I've deleted any significant amount of data was when I corrupted my 40Gb hard drive because I was moving a partition and the house had a power outage!

Yeah -- I love that feeling of 450 Mhz!
