No and no! Oh well, I'll just have to keep writing RP until we're all ready to start! :)

Wow, Azz, sorry to hear about the accident. And DF, congratulations all around!

Anton, would you like to wait for them, or start solo for now?

I'll wait and write up a few stories in the mean time or something.

I was reminded whyi don't go skiing.
But living on an icecube, kinda forces you to do it.

First time on the planks of death in 8-9 years (almost broke the neck back then)... training field with coach...

Bam!

Broke both legs...
One leg on the shin.
Other leg above the knee...

So what you are saying is you'll have a lot of free time sitting in a chair not moving? So get on that character sheet! :P Take care of yourself man, that hurts.

In case anyone was wondering, the spell Gednan cast in my last entry was Dancing Lights.

I need to do a background for my dwarf character, which I'll do in the next few days. He'll probably meet up with the party when it reaches the trading outpost.

You are doing fine. I keep thinking I need to jump in and interject, but this part of the story is all about you anyway, and I don't think I need to redirect at all.

Yeah, I'm just having fun! Although I think I've said all I want to for this bit so unless DF has anything to add, I think we could probably shuffle on to the Outpost.

So do we want to kick off at the Trading Post then? If Braz and Gednan arrive there and have the scene set, I'll bring my dwarf in when I have a better idea of the surroundings.

Go for it - we are closing (house) tomorrow so my life is a bit crazy this week. I will contribute though, creating another char is a bit daunting atm.

That means, Anton, that for the sake of this discussion, you are the party leader. What date would you like to leave Restov and head for Oleg's Trading Post?

Post subject:  Re: Pathfinder Kingmaker OOC discussion/rules thread

WOOO! PARTY LEADER!!!

I'm assuming that we're not running this in real time (ie one day is one day in RL) as I suspect things would diverge quickly! So lets say that Braz and Gednan left Restov on 1st March (or the Pathfinder equivalent of March!). Both walking and Gednan's horse carrying gear.

On Cold:
page 442 of the rule book has the rules for cold weather. Anything under 40°F and above 0°F necessitates a Fortitude save each hour at a DC of 15, +1 for each additional hour. Cold weather gear gives you a +5 bonus, and if you can make a successful Survival check of 15, I'll grant an additional +1 bonus, with a further +1 bonus for every 5 above the base 15 for the survival check.

Failure of the Fortitude save means nonlethal damage (1d6) per failure, and becoming fatigued until you can get to shelter, warm up, and heal back the nonlethal damage.

Page 191 and 192 detail out nonlethal damage. If you take nonlethal damage equal to your current hit points, you become staggered, and more than your current hit points and you fall unconscious. If you take nonlethal damage exceeding your max hit points, any further nonlethal damage is treated as lethal. You heal nonlethal damage at the rate of 1 point per hour per character level.

It would be a bit of a risk traveling on foot at this point of the year. It would be less risky riding horses, but you'll still have some difficulty, just less days of exposure. Once you make camp, get a fire going, and can stay in a more-or-less sealed tent you would no longer need to make saves, and it certainly won't be below 40°F all day long, every day. You should be able to heal overnight every night, but you may at times be forced to stop midday to get out of the elements. Taking a stage would keep you protected well enough to not make checks either, but it is a bit more expensive.

Let me know your thoughts here. If you do decide to wait to start out, we need to start paying for Inns and meals and such. I'm not sure what kind of gear you guys have, or money, as I don't have your character sheets pulled up.

Post subject:  Re: Pathfinder Kingmaker OOC discussion/rules thread

I think it would probably be best to take a carriage. 3cp per mile and you said Oleg is 100 miles from Restov? That's 3gp by my reckoning. Braz happy to cover this, DF? Gednan's got practically no coin! It's either that or 4-5 days of fortitude checks and I'm not optimistic on that, even with my 10 for survival!

Cet, how do you want to do dice rolls? Shall we do them offline and report them here or should we log in to Roll20?

... It's only now that it occurs to me that an Endure Elements spell might have come in handy. I may have to see if I can barter for the scroll of it at some point and add it to my spellbook.

Anyway, I need to head off to bed now so I'll fill out the RP when I get back from work tomorrow.

Post subject:  Re: Pathfinder Kingmaker OOC discussion/rules thread

I think just doing the numbers here is fine. I'm not sure if the numbers stay static in Roll20.net after we all log out, so having a log here is fine. When we report rolls here, document the natural die roll and your bonuses (something like (15 + 7 = 22), with die roll listed first, bonuses second, total in bold for quick reference). We can do all of that in the RP thread, because it will get very difficult to keep flipping back and forth between threads and trying to match up which roll to which check in multiple places. Some OOC info is communicated during RPing anyway.

Braz: Survival 5 + Cold Weather Gear +5 | Gednan: Survival 10 + Cold Weather Gear +5

I will have to look at the rules again regarding how far/fast we can travel per hour, but this is going to be a issue throughout the adventure, so paying for a carriage now is only moderately useful - but it would get us moving so I am fine with it. I have 25gp.

Post subject:  Re: Pathfinder Kingmaker OOC discussion/rules thread

Here's what I suggest we do:

Since we haven't really started yet, Cet, if you'll allow me, I'd like to switch out one of the 1st level spells in my spell book for Endure Elements. When I was rolling my character, I had somehow got it into my head that cold was a survival check and not a Fortitude save and so with 10 plus the 5 from the Cold Weather Outfit, I'd be practically immune barring a natural 1 on the roll. Thus I did not include Endure Elements in my spellbook!

That spell makes one person immune to cold for 24hrs. I have 3 1st level slots so I could use those to protect 3 party members from cold and use my cantrips and weapons for combat.

The alternatives:
1) We wait until the summer months. Gednan has no funds for inns and such so will be living out of a tent and using survival skills for food.
2) We take the carriage to Oleg (which we should probably do anyway) and then head out on our questings staying within an hour of haven so we can head back when someone fails a roll. ... until the summer months when it won't be a problem.

I worked out probabilities yesterday and the odds of Gednan failing the Fort roll in the first hour (allowing for a survivability bonus and cold weather gear) is 27%; for Braz it's 31%. These increase by roughly 4-5% for each additional hour. Those are not good odds! So if Cet is happy, I'll swap the spells and things will be a bit easier.

Another question (are you feeling mean, Cet?!) is do I have to make a Fort save for my horse too or can I assume that he is cold-adapted?

Post subject:  Re: Pathfinder Kingmaker OOC discussion/rules thread

Horses are much more used to being out in the cold than you. And yes, feel free to change out your spells. It also wouldn't be a big deal to be driven to the outpost. But yes, I'm illustrating for you the difficulties in adventuring in this area!

Over time, that danger will diminish, as you gain bonus to saving throws, gain in hit points, etc. For now, though, the elements do pose a very real danger to you, and also illustrates the nature of the folk who work the land and earn a living in these parts.

The weather will improve rapidly over the next several weeks, but in these areas it is not unusual for blizzards and inclement weather to occur well into spring. Making sure you have sufficient provisions and shelter is essential, and there will be months in the winter when you simply cannot adventure.

Ok. We're taking the carriage to the Trading Post. I'll switch around my spells and upload a new character sheet, probably tomorrow.

Post subject:  Re: Pathfinder Kingmaker OOC discussion/rules thread

Character Sheet now updated. Can be accessed from the same link in my sig.

Gednan now has Endure Elements, which means anyone the spell has been cast on is immune to natural cold or heat effects for 24hrs. This should make our adventuring a little easier; although it does mean I pretty much lose all my level 1 spell slots. Still, I have a crossbow, so we should be fine!

Post subject:  Re: Pathfinder Kingmaker OOC discussion/rules thread

Sorry guys, I've been absolutely swamped. I will really try to get this updated by the middle of this week. I'm dropping the ball, I know, but work has been killer, and there have been some things going on in my personal life too that have just maxed me out. I'm getting it all under control, I promise. If not, there will be a real Wrath of Pete type situation brewing, with dog and cats living together, mass hysteria!

Rumors of my death has been greatly exaggerated.

Took my 1st step last week and now I am finally home.

I am sorry to say I haven't read anything, since I haven't had my comp with me. (Was sent to Denmark (across the atlantic) for surgery) and all I had to read were the 70-64X (Microsoft certification books, trying to get MCITP-SA) that my boss sent me.

Could any of your guys be kind enough to send me a PM with the complete basic of rolling up a character?

Post subject:  Re: Pathfinder Kingmaker OOC discussion/rules thread

So, the middle of last week has come and gone, and had time to do so twice, with still no update. I'm just not certain I'm going to be able to run this regularly for a while, maybe all summer. I'm really sorry. I definitely want to do this, but there are a lot of things that keep taking priority away from it.

Hey, that's alright. It looks like it's pretty bad timing for all, in a couple of months DF is going to have his hands full too. Such is the problem of being adults ... oh to be young again! :P

Cet, just post whenever you're ready (even if that's at the end of summer) and we'll take it at whatever pace we'll take it. In the meantime, I'll see if I can get inventive with some stories just to keep everyone amused!

Azz, character generation is a bit complex. I suggest you start here http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/gettingStarted.html (scroll down to the Generating a Character section) and work from there. For character sheets, try using "Yet Another Pathfinder Character Generator" if you have Excel 2007 or 2010 http://sourceforge.net/projects/yapcg/. I've not used it myself but it should hopefully automate some of the steps.

HELLO HELLO! IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK ...... etc etc.

So people, I just thought I'd post for the hell of it and find out how you all are doing.

DF - Baby arrived? How's the waking up in the middle of the night working for you? :)
Azz - You're leg recovering/recovered?
Cet - Still busy?

I'm getting into Star Citizen somewhat. I've also seen a lot of my time drained through playing FTL and Mark of the Ninja.

Work is still insane, but I think it has settled down as much as it is going to. I'm not stressing about it as much. I can't tell if that is a positive or negative development, lol.

We could probably start something up again, as long as expectations aren't too high.
