This is Warcraft after all, where Dwarves have immense steak tanks, and Goblins carry explosives strapped to their backs.

Yes, Engineers can make explosives (among other things).

Not much variation in the effects, but we may just be spoiled by SWG...

Also Katricia has announced that there will be an ingame mail system in WoW:
