What an awesome read! What ideas do you have for planning a raid like this? A couple that come to mind immediately: 1) TeamSpeak - just seeing how effective it's been with two or three of us, I can only imagine the value-add TS would be in a group that large. 2) Classes should be broken up and form the small groups of five. 3) The Leader of the whole event should direct each groups' efforts. |

Teamspeak would have to be managed alot as well. Once you get 5 or more people in a room it gets tough to control with everyone speaking over each other don't you find? |

Certainly. An idea I was considering when I wrote that post was saying that only the group leaders had the ability to speak, team members could only listen. That would leave us with up to 8 people speaking. Might be doable. Who knows, maybe it should be set up so only the leader could speak. We should really do some experimentation with those configurations so when the time comes for us to undertake a large-scale effort, we have some idea of what we're doing. |

So far I have listened to the guys playing. It never got to the point where people were talking over other peopleā¦. But then there was only a few playing, and maybe a couple of us non testers listening to them. I was mostly talking to the testers to get a better understanding of the game. At that time no one seemed to mind, However I see where Golga is coming from. This is my guess: You would need to create channels for each group to keep the people you do not need to hear from talking over the guys you really need to hear. In the game the groups are small anyway, but you can create super groups for high level raids. I imagine we could have a channel for each small group. On TeamSpeak it would look something like this: Onyxia Raid Group 1 Onyxia Raid Group 2 Onyxia Raid Group 3 We would sacrifice being able to hear the whole team, but what you get is a few smaller well managed groups. The group leaders could then communicate with the other group leaders by text when it is time to make decisions such as go right or go left. Regardless we will have plenty of time to test and observe how Avian uses TeamSpeak. We may find the need for chopping up Raid groups into smaller channels, or we may find that we as a community do not talk over each other too much. |

In my BF Clan what we do to control this for the most part is everyone is on push to talk instead of voice activated. And the leader is the main one that does the talking with others only doing responces or emergency information. |

Can you do a matrix grouping? ie. Group 1: Person A Person B Person C Group 2: Person D Person E Person F Leader Group: Person A Person D I guess what I am asking is can you be a member of multiple groups in Teamspeak? Actually, the more I think about this, the more it still has problems, since everyone in the leader group would hear the other leaders talking with their regular Group. (unless you did a lot of clicking in TS which defeats the purpose) Too bad you couldn't have TWO or more click to talk buttons that were Group specific....Hmmmmmmmm |

This would be how I would envision it as well. Only speak if you have something useful to say. I have never used Teamspeak before, but will have it setup soon, but I have been on conference calls with dozens and sometimes many more people. There has to be one leader and he has to take control of the group. Of course, that is easier said then done. I find it hard to believe that in a group as large as 40 there will be order, especially with so many kids playing WOW. But I guess I sound like a grumpy old man. I also have to laugh at all the people on the boards that are complaining that it's too hard. I hope it takes weeks for someone to figure it out. |

I'll join you as old and grumpy then. I still remember the dragon raids in DAoC, how disorganized and utterly messy those were... Of course, there was always a great battleplan and very good leaders, but some people just refused to listen and some group leaders didn't bother to get chat and there you go. If you get a random group of 40+ people to behave and follow orders, you should get a reward as that seems near impossible. The most sensible solution to raids is simply keeping it guild only, and in the cases when we don't have enough, invite another guild. |

Well said, Kharlaq. When I read the Onyxia story, I started laughing when they wrote something about someone aggroing Onyxia before the group was ready to fight...gee, what a surprise! I'm going to start a new thread to tell you about our first encounter with an Elite beast! Why? Because it's an illustration of poor planning (first attempt) as well as good planning (second, successful attempt). |
