Well, it isn't quite back yet. "It" being the Big Catch *Fishing* Contest started by our own Mr. Talon (pretty sure he started it) http://www.swg-avian.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9049 and returned by Mr. Romsiaug http://www.swg-avian.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10396 back in a galaxy far far away (further away for some :) ). I thought it might be cool to do a WoW version of the event for a bit of fun between fellow guildmates each month.

As you can tell by the two links, the rules did change same some what, and I suppect we'll have to fine tune things to work out in WoW. Right now, I do know that there are some fish that you can catch that have names such as "10 Pound Catfish".

I'm thinking we could do something similier to the first big catch and break the fish up into type, though that might get a bit sticky. Suggestions on how to handle exactly what the contest'll cover would be nice. Monthly largest? Monthly largest of each type? Largest all time overall?

Other then guild fame, I guess some sort of rewards would be a nice insentive to join in the contest. I don't have many coins yet, so I thought we might to some kind of "entering fee" for those want to take part? I'll think on it some more, we might try offering collected items or soemthing along those lines too after a while.

Not done with what I wanted to post but I have to run now, hopefully there is enough interest and we can put something interesting for us to do between quests/raids/women..? :P

The problem with WOW fishing vs SWG fishing is the level difference. I'm not sure how this should be handled. Maybe not handled at all?

I did catch a 10 pounder, maybe we could have the contest to see who catches the most of those.

I like the idea and would definitely be in. I also think there should be an entrance fee.

Now tell me more about that women thing you were righting about...

Maybe we should also have a category for items that are fished out, like armor and such. I have fished out a couple of nice sets of boots and i'm sure you all have too. Only problem I see is determining what items are better than others, and I guess we could use vendor sale price (what you could sell it to a vendor for) as a basis.

Okay, is there any skill involved in fishing ?

Does it matter when you click on your bobber ?

Right as the splash occurs?

A bit after?

I saw no noticable difference myself.. any thoughts?

I fished up "The 1 Ring" just the other day, pretty cool, +1's to several stats. Comments on it said "not nearly as good as The 2 Ring" or something like that.

I need to find rings and trinkets... I hate having empty slots on my character... also need a hat, neck item, and shoulder item... naked spots seem such a waste to me....

Earliest I think you can find shoulders is level 15. I was level 19 when I finally found my first.

Earliest you can find rings I think is also 15. Almost most are 20+

Earliest you can find head armor I think is level 24. Almost most are 25+

Earliets you can find neck items is level 25.

Most of this is from Thottbot.

Okay, well the fishing in WoW isn't as involved as it was in SWG. Basically you just click the bobber like mentioned, but there are some factors that do come into play while fishing I'm sure. Where you fish, what kind of pole you have (some have different stats on them), what kind of bait/fishing buff, how high your fishing skill is I think all come into play on what you'll be catching. Depending on how we set it up, I don't think'll make much difference though like you said.

Yeh, I was thinking the same thing, change it to "who ever catchs the most of a certain kind wins." But I did see that the weight scale for fish can get on up there, I believe the range I saw was 5-25+ in pounds. If that is the case we could just exchange the SWG meters for the WoW pounds and try going for the biggest each time. Could even restrict the type of fish to catfish one month, then rainbowfish another to extend the venture?

I think so too, it'll help balance out where the reward coins/items come from. How do the rest of you feel about that?

As for the women... Didn't Liro promise everyone at least three for joining the guild? :P

Some items are rarer then others, I noticed that on the auction use you can sort by rarity. How would we know it came from fishing? I actually haven't done much yet so I haven't pulled up anything extra cool yet.

Yours are right here, Warnel - just share with Gophers, oh and be careful to avoid the occasional johnson.

I get the best results in clicking on the bobber "right as the splash occurs"
but my fishing skill is only at 10 right now maybe that changes as you get better.

I caught the 2 pairs of boots within 5 minutes of fishing at the Stormwind gates, at the lilipads off to the right before the bridge as you go in... I think there is a fishing NPC standing there.

I also thoroughly enjoy jumping into the water from the Gryphon ride place when I leave Stormwind. You get out right at the lilipads. Just make sure you land in the water!

Opps, guess I let this go slide for a bit.

New year, so how about we nail down our first contest rules?

What I want to do, is have it like the first big catch, where you win for having the biggest of the type (so largest catfish wins, and largest mudfish, and so on) and all so award someone with the "All-Time Record" each time the highest number of pounds is pasted overall on all the fish.

But that isn't want we're going to do. I'd like to do it like that, but I think it may be a bit to hard to coordinate right now so we might just push it back to "Biggest fish" wins. Scale it down some, and then see how the first few contests go and then expand further seems like a logical plan to me. I thought about restricting what type of fish that can be entered (so like "only catfish") but that might make things a bit to fustrating?

Anyway, lets go with a monthly deal. The end date will be set later on, we might be a little behind for January so start collecting incase it isn't called until sometime in Febuary.

Also I think we all agreed that an entering fee would be good to help with creating a reward pot but no one mentioned what they thought that should be. How does 1 silver sound to everyone? If that is to low maybe 3 or 5, though I don't want anyone to feel like they are just throwing their coins to the wind and not want to try again in the comming months.

All of those coins will go into the reward pot for the winner at the end of the contest. If you happen to win, hopefully we'll have some nice donated items to go along with the pot and your title. Maybe enough to spread out prizes for 2nd and 3rd as well.

Doh, have to run out quickly again. I'll finish this up when I return.
