My First Dalaran PvP Experience

Yesterday evening, high off a great Gonmeragan campaign, Danyale and I set off for the Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas. I wanted to visit the Alchemy trainer there, to see if I could learn anything from her.

In root Danyale and I came upon the huge Thousand Needles lifts. As usual the lift was being guarded by Tauren NPCs. Normally I am able to sneak past the guards, but this time the level 30 guard caught us and started a fight on the narrow lift walkway. In no time a level 33 Tauren Melee player, and a level 31 undead shaman player joined the NPC in attacking us.

Being less naive than Danyale, I was worried. There levels matched our levels, and there were 3 of them against the 2 of us. Plus I knew how unskilled we were with PvP… and assumed anyone attacking us would probably be very skilled at PvP. PvP is so different, so challenging, levels can mean nothing when fighting a skilled RL player.

The battle was tough, the excitement was real, the fear of death was real. Danyale’s Rogue daggers were tearing at the Huge NPC with lighting speed. Even though I am a priest focused on conserving mana for healing, the situating necessitated the use of my attacking spells. The NPC was the first to go down.

By the time he fell, the horde players had focused their attention on Danyale and began hitting her hard. I healed Danyale quickly, and then noticed the Melee player healing. I am not knowledgeable in the ways of the Shaman, but I assumed she was doing the healing. I knew Danyale’s killing speed would win against most opponents… as long as they did not have easy access to heals… so the Shaman became my highest target. I had to distract her so that Danyale could do her work.

First I hit her with a mind blast because it hits hard and takes no time to cast. Then I cast Power word shield to fend off her attacks, and began to mana drain her. She was no match for my shields, and she was quickly wounded and without most of her mana. At this time I turned back to Danyale and sent her another flashheal…

Beyond that I can not remember, other than both Horde players fell moments later. Did Danyale finish them off, did I; it is all a blur now. All that is certain is we were victorious.

The battle was intense and it colored the rest of our trip with the sense of danger. I had no idea how long we would remain PvP enabled, and I had no idea if the players would come back looking for revenge. Did they belong to a guild, thus having easy access to friends to hunt us down? I had no idea, so Danyale and I traveled off the beaten path, into the winding hills, so no one would find us.

The rest of the trip was uneventful… but the tension had been enhanced making the rest of the night so much fun. We were on our toes, and feeling on top of the world.

As I typed the post above, I realized that I should have mind-controlled the horde players and forced them run off the cliff, plunging to their death.

PvP is so intense that I failed to think of that idea.... and it would have been so much easier.

You can do that?

I don't think mind control works on players.

A few weeks ago I read a post saying a priest Mind Controlled the author and tried to run him in the water to drown him.

That post would make me think it is possible.... but I do not know the credibility of that author.

I know of priests who will mind control others and run them into lava and such, hehe... I think it still works...

I love killing those guards every time I make a trip to Thousand Needles...I did get jumped by a Tauren Shaman and Druid once though...they were each about 1 or 2 lvls below me and of course killed me, but I did some pretty good damage to both considering I was doubled teamed.
