The final proof that WoW was built with PvP in mind from the start.

Apparently the design decision here was that punishing players for their behavior is not fun.

Rewarding people for alternate behavior is more fun.

And people on the forums are already complaining that the PVP ranking can decrease if they don't keep it up continually.

I think this is the conclusion of every major MMORPG. (Don't quote me on that thought)

Just like DAOC it's far easier to reduce the reward for killing PCs that are not of your level, but to try to penalize players for killing lower level PCs is fraught with potential abuses.

Even the "Who Attacked First" precept can be circumvented with some trickery. So at the end of the day it's all I would have expected.

In DAOC, the argument was that while there was no real death penalty for the fallen, if you didn't at least try to coordinate and make a successful attack you were giving benefit to your enemies for no reason. This is only a small peice of the support, and it doesn't relate to the Ganking problem, this was alleviated by the use of level ranges for battlegrounds.


(Did that make any sense?)
