Sweet, I have characters of all levels. If you need a group, I will probably be able to help you out.

BTW I saw it at CompUSA with a 60 day game card included. Not sure if that was a bargain, but you may be able to find good deals out there.

Well, my wife surprised me by bringing WoW home last night. I'm patching it now. On dialup. Gonna take me forever.

Is it just me, or does WoW have the slowest freaking patcher in the known universe?

Do you have the Windows firewall or some other firewall installed? Their downloader is torrent-based so it's possible you're not getting the best download speeds because of firewall settings.

If you follow their links for "Having trouble downloading?" you can eventually get to where you can simply download the patch directly from Blizzard, as you might with a traditional patch. That may be faster for you.

Looking forward to having you in-game!

Yeah, you have to allow their exe through a port in your firewall. Fairly secure   , but the performance increase is by a factor of 50 (for me, individual results can and do vary.)

The ports they say to open up are:
3724
6112
6881-6999

And once you get caught up, if there are new patches, Flyoc usualy hoasts them and gives us a link in the private forum. His patch downloads are super fast.

Angus, I was worried about you all weekend. Did you get patched, does it work on dialup?

I play during the day from work on dialup so I know it DOES work over dialup with a few lag situations in SW and IF at times but not to the point it is unusable usually. I do however get my patches while on high speed so I dont have to deal with that.

Yep, I got patched, and it works well on dialup.

It can get a little laggy in the cities, but nothing unworkable.

Yeah it will get choppy in the cities for most people. 1 gig of RAM helps playability in the cities. My game usually only pauses when I warp into the city, or when I take my first steps into the crowed areas. After those first few seconds it is all-good.

I will be visiting my parents this weekend, but when I get back I will be glad to help you get started. I will be sure to look you up when I log in.
