Is there anything I can do to better protect myself? I was in BG last night and I had more deaths than kills almost. I was 2 shoted my a hunter some sorry as rouge killed me in about 3 seconds. There has got to be something I can do. I am level 43 now can someone please give me some tips. Anything will do just tell me something to better protect myself this is just crazy. I have started to run from hunters and rouges that are lower level than me.

Quick escape method:

Frost Nova and blink. Make sure to use your frost armor (or mage armor if you want better resists) as this can slow down their attacks and lasts 30 minutes (which appears to be lonher than your life expectancy :P ). If you can develop a feel for when rogues come up on you, then a frost nova will lock them down and leave them helpless :)

2 mages working together could lay down enough to limit the risk.

Eterne would have better tips as he does BGs fairly regularly. i imagine you always want to have others between you and them.

In my opinion, you are too low. You should be at least 46 or so. The best thing a mage can do to survive is to kill the other guy first. The best defense is a good offense! And at your level, you won't be able to do that to the 48s and 49s in the BG.

What's your build? Frost for survivability, fire for killing. If you go Arcane then you need to get POM for sure and possibly Arcane Power. Otherwise stay away from it.

Arindel is correct about keeping your buffs up. Also use your wards if you can. They are cheap and won't last long but they can help a little.

Basically though, mages are the first thing other players go for. We will always be the easiest kills, but with our aoe and long range nukes you should still be at or near the top of the HK charts.

Though I've had some success in BGs with my mage, Deak is really the master. I forget the rank he made, but it was pretty high.

Once the talent changes are live, I plan on seeing how high I can get Eterne. I've looking at a couple different builds just for PVP.

I am frost and a little arcane right now. I try to keep as many people between me and my target as possible. What build are you looking at for PvP? I am thinking about changing my build as soon as the new talents come out. When are they supposed to come out?

The new talents will be out with the next patch. My build will look something like this I'm thinking.

http://www.wowhead.com/talent/?RZVeru00uxbNc0hVo

This build will focus on Shatter has being a large crit damage driver. Plus it adds a good deal of survivability with Ice Block, Improved Blizz, Improved Frost Nova and Permafrost.

It's all Theorycraft but I'll give it a try.

It truly amazes me how unhappy people can be. Or choose to be.

It seems that every player wants their characters to be unstoppable forces capable of soloing BWL. I guess I will never get it.

The game is what it is. If you don't like it quit and give me your gear. :)

I agree. also, every mage has the same choices, so you're not more or less powerful than anyone. Gear usually ecides the better/best, though people can sometimes spot a way to use the system to it's fullest.

Frost got a definite buff... arcane got gutted... and fire had some interesting tweaks...

I don't like that they left Improved CS at teh 15 pt level... that hurts... alot....

Arcane did get nerfed, and I don't really get why. For me, the tree before had very little offer, now it's dead to me.

Nice build Sity, good mix of a bunch of stuff.

To me, Shatter is the whole key to a powerful mage build. That 50% chance to crit is huge. Add to that Impact and you are talking about a ton of damage. The possibilities are fun to think about.

I think it's only for frost damage and it's 50% chance increase. Thus if you have a 10% chance to crit, you then have a 15% chance to cri (but I'll takewhatever I can get).

It wold be nice i they gave mages their own/base %chance to crit like they do for melee classes. Maybe they'll do that as well some time.

CounterSpell.

Putting 2 talent poitns into this skill gives a 100% chance of silencing the target for 4 seconds. it is the ultimate caster puller for PvE and a mage could last less than 4 seconds without the ability to cast in PvP.

Shatter will now apply to all schools of damage. And from what I've read it's additive crit chance. Could be wrong on that but I'm sure that fire and arcane count too.

So, imagine in a BG a mage laying down a frost nova/ blastwave combo. DEVASTATING!

Yeah, thats almost as good as the Combusted Blastwave, which got altered with the new combustion...

Combusted blastwave = PURE PWNAGE & DEAD MAGE in PVE.

Ask Gudsvenn... he knows what I am talking about....

As I've said, I'm really excited about the possibilities of a true elemental build that has some good crowd control and nasty burst damage.

Also spells like Frost and Ice Armor and Cone of Cold can cause oppenents to freeze if you have the Frostbite talent. Once frozen, let off a fireblast and there's another probable crit, with Ignite you'd be looking at 1500+ points of damage.
