I love BG's plus I am trying to stay at the same level with the rest of the group and this keeps me at that level.

Depending on your server that could require easily over 100k+ honor per week.

Yea that's the only way you'll make it is at lvl 60 because the honor doesn't pay off as well for low really low lvls.

Top 100 on Maelstrom would probably require closer to 200k plus.

Could someone please explain to me how this all works? And, I don't mean what the battle grounds are, and how PVP works on a non-PVP server. I'm talking about the rankings and such. Like, there have been some quests that are asking for some flowers or something .. but, are PVP quests. Also, some other PVP quests have popped up every now and then. But, besides that, how does the ranking come into play? Why is it useful? Also, in the battlegrounds do you get any xp, or, is if just for fun?

The pvp rankings work as a system where a player's total honor earned each week is compared to everyone else's earned that week for each faction (Alliance and Horde).

The benefits from higher rankings is cooler titles (e.g. sergeant, captain, warlord, etc.) as well as getting access to some pretty cool blue and purple gear.

This gear is obtained through rankings as well as the reputation levels that get built up with the WSG/AB/AV factions. This "pvp" gear typically has stats that are condusive to the pvp aspect of the game. e.g. the priest armor gives +int and +sta bonuses as those are key for pvping, whereas the raid armor earned in MC/BWL is designed for PVE and gives +int and +spirit, stats generally more important in pve raiding.

As revered or exalted with the AV faction (at least I think its one of those high levels) you also gain access to an epic mount. Still costs a lot of gold to buy, but it is somewhat more unique than those you can buy in your local city.

And yes, congrats on hitting the charts Ducky. Get to 60 then worry about getting super high rankings. However, if you are wanting super high WSG/AB reputation, I would recommend doing so before hitting 60 as on Maelstrom those are currently dominated by an Alliance guild that is highly coordinated and effective.

Our Maelstrom guild, however, is making plans to change that with some concerted/coordinated games of our own. We have some nicely geared and veteran pvpers there that when banded together will put the alliance in their place.

so then I need to work on getting as much honor as I can before 60 and after that we need to work on kicking the crap out of the alliance.

More like getting as much WSG/AB rep pre-60 (which kinda ties in with getting honor). I believe you get more honor/kill at level 60, but you won't be winning as many BG matches at 60 due to that Alliance guild's coordination, which is what slows down you reputation progress a bunch since you do not get as many war tokens to turn in to increase rep.

Note - 3 tokens for a BG win, only 1 for a loss, so you can see how nice winning actually is.

This is all very confusing I think and isn't really spelled out very well by Blizz.

PVP Ranking and Honor have nothing to do with Reputation. Speaking primarily of Battlegrounds, each of the three have their own reputations, with corresponding rewards.

Gaining the reputation with a specific battleground is much more realistic to a sub 40+hour/ week gamer than getting high on the PVP charts. To get high on the PVP charts and high rank requires an amazing amount of time and coordinated effort. This is in part because Honor decays over time, it's not just a grind the factions but must be continually gained to move up.

PVP on a PVE server like Dalaran is pretty much just in the battlegrounds. But it's not too much different on a PVP server. We have our ganking and stuff, but if you want to move up you have to play the battlegrounds.

I think the PVP system is pretty well done and was a good bone thrown to the casual player, especially Warsong Gulch. You can play quick games on your own time and get reputation for some decent attainable rewards.

What will make it better is the sometimes mentioned cross server battlegrounds. How fun would it be for us Horde guys to fight the Alliance lads on Dalaran?
