As a part of the new loot changes that have been going into the game recently, we've gotten that are called resource Recyclers.

Basically there is a different type for each of the basic resource types (flora, chemical, metal, ore, creature...). It is a looted, single craft (no factories), schematic and needs some looted components.

If you put in a resource it will change that resource into a basic form. For example put in any steel and it will be converted into smelted steel with stats of all 200. Not too useful for those who need named resources or stats, but good for the like for tailors and architects who just need the basic resource type and don't care about stats.
You could get all those little bits of hide and combine them into a single stack, which would then be useful for factory runs.

Now that is a very good idea. Can't begin to describe how annoying having smaller stacks of one resource yet can't use the damn stuff cause SW requirements are so high.
