ANy of you guys following the SWG emu in development? Should hit open source in the near future, then the fun begins. Check out the eXile emu server over at http://www.spraticnet.com/~spraticn/~sw ... /index.php for more info. I've seen some screenies so far, and they look spot on.

There's a lot of familiar faces there. Stettin got the Weaponsmith corro spot.

LOL - these guys working out of their garage will end up with more subscribers than SOE...and have a better product! I'll have to look in on it in a few months. Very intriguing. Actually, I played WoW on a 'private' server about two months before I got into beta.

I think you're right Rocky. What I do fear is that it will become too successful and attract unwanted legal attention from the jealous powers that be.

But, I plan on being there for the ride that's for sure.

If SOE had any vision or intelligence, they'd observe this, then hire the emu guys to fix the real game.

That'll never happen. I've been looking into the legality of emu servers and past decisions, and it looks like there's nothing SOE can do. The game runs on the clients, which we own. The servers simply run a database that is code written by the emu devs, not stolen or copied. It looks pretty air tight after a decision by the California courts in a case of Blizzard vs. and emu server, so precidence has been set.

It's going to be fun grinding up my toons again and building the dream player city :)

This could be the SWG 2 we've been waiting for. I'll be following this one now.

Well, not SWG2, but a rare occassion where you can go back in time with the knowledge you now have ;) Anyone up for building a city? lol I'm considering rebuilding Tusken's Bane, or just starting a new city on Naboo. Never lived there and was always envious of the houses there.

Well, our building of the first Avian City near Keren on Naboo was one of the most memorable things in all my SWG time. If this pans out count me in for playing.

maybe we could get that plot of land that we wanted before the Imps took it over from under us... that would rock.

even if this does come out unless they decided to start making drastic changes to the game I don't see it being much different the the state of the game when I finally left. Granted its free so worth a try but the effort that went into creating my Armorsmith and stuff...well it was alot of work...

Yeah I would only be playing this as a casual thing. No major crafting for me. Would be cool to do some Avian only Deathwatch bunker, etc. runs though. That's if we can get good enough gear.

holy cow...

And Kitek is on the Dev team...! You guys may not know Kitek, but I taught him how to craft in his first days on Chilastra. How cool is that, that he is on the dev team and has his quote on the their main page. He almost joined avian, but it was in our "dying" times and we wern't active enough when he was lookin for a guild.

This looks nice!

I think we'll be seeing a lot of familiar, all but forgotten, and infamous faces popping up there. There will be many new faces all together from other servers which is cool. To steal a line from a song from the Mikado..

I'm filled to the brim with girlish glee..

I'll most definitely play with these guys. Getting the ol' Avian group back together again would be sweet too. I can't wait!

Here's a little pics for updates. They've gone leaps and bounds since the first zone insertion a couple weeks ago. Now they've got working HAM (mobs too), chat, and NPCs.

Oh damn I can't wait for this. I just really can't wait. I hope this actually turns out to be good. It just brings back all the cool memories. I just really hope it doesn't turn out to crush the spirit like the actual game did. Also, those forums are really poorly organized and difficult to read through.

agreed on both points. It seems like they have a large range of modability, Maybe some good story arcs will be possible in the future like Cyrus always dreamed of

To mark SWG's 3 year anniversary, here's the much anticipated SWGEMU video released last night.

I'll have to wait until I get home to check it out. What's in it? Also, where do you get your news? That forum is so chaotic and unorganized it gives me a headache.

I get my news at spraticnet and swgemu.com (the actual people working on it). The video is really just "proof" to all the naysayers out there that the emu exists. They can now load into any zone, working ham and emotes, NPCs (Boba was chasing him in Theed, Jabba all over the place, and an Aklay in some Tatooine spaceport). They're now working on combat and specials.

Do they have a relative ETA for launch?

Well, I guess I can give them a "good deal" for that. We need to see if we'll be able to host a server some where. Or are there plans for that too?

spraticnet.com is the one of the larger server communities already forming, and is comprised of mostly old Chilastra players.

I think the majority of people will be playing on the eXiles server when it goes live. There's only a handful of planned servers that have a chance at being successful and it's one of them. The eXiles server is primarily Chilastra run but is getting more and more characters from other servers signing up daily. It's pretty community driven as far as changes goes to the game and monitoring and policing users. Expoiting won't be tolerated and they've hinted at taking a strong stand against any AFK loot campers.

Eh... look at the name that posted it :P.
But that guide was well out-dated by Pub13 anyway. The DE 101 was the one guide to rule them all.

Anyway, my  would be for getting your hopes up far, far too early for this.

Au contraire, Mr. Obo. They can't do any worse than what SOE did with it. Even if the most we ever get to do is log in and take screenshots of places we were, that's an improvement. And having nothing is no different than having nothing, so our hopes can't even be dashed!

Shall we put in a request for a "guild forum" there? What that would basically do is get us a free guild hall on launch day, so those of us that want to try it out can get organized quicker.

I'd go for that. It kinda sucks that they will give everyone so much stuff, but it kinda makes sense in that we've all done that grind before. It was so much fun working as a team for that, though. But yeah, if they are going to give out guild halls, it'd be nice to have one ready for us.

It's just a launch day thing as to not give away too many things. It'll be awhile until architects can make GH's, so it's a good way I think to get everyone guilded at the launch. Guess I'll add the AT&T tag to the sig :)

I suppose I should actually register at that forum. Some of the avatars and sigs are questionable, which isn't a big deal, but I can see how the bosses at work might frown if they see it. Is there a way to turn off pics just for one site?

Yeah, some of those avatars and sigs are a bit too much. If you're using Firefox, use addblocker.

Adblock:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/

Adblock Filterset Updater:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1136/

Most boards offer a way to shut them off, but I'm not sure why you can't there.

I'll just need everyone's forum handle over there to get access.
