Recreant: not only do Pirates have ports, they can never lose them for more than 72 hours at any given time, unlike nations who can lose control of a port to another nation permanently. Spinnaker Sam: Pirates have access to the same types of structures as a national. So a pirate merchant is a viable career. Silvereagle: Ahh thanks for the info,,clears things up a bit,,how about can a merchant or privateer do busines with a pirate port? Or said Pirates? Maybe they would like a rum runner,,lol Spinnaker Sam: Yes, as long as your standing allows it you can trade in pirate ports. |

To summarize: Quote: So a pirate merchant is a viable career
That is from Spinnaker Sam, the quasi-dev in my books given his knowledge of the game and history in the community. I don't quite follow the "never lose a port for more than 72 hours" comment though. Scenario 1: Pirates take over Tortuga, and thereby gain access to whatever resources are at that port and its trading house. Now would they keep that port under their control until a National cam and took it over? Or do they lose control after 72 hours? I think it is the former. Scenario 2: Pirates lose Tortuga to the French. Would Pirates regain control of that port after the 72 hours expire, and hold it again until a National came roaring in again? Recreant hints that this would be the case but I dont know it that makes sense in light of how the victory point system works. Anyone know that system and can provide insight if the priate port control seems consistent? |

I understood it to mean that there are ports that belong to pirates by default and it's those ports that are returned to pirates after 72 hours, assuming the pirates do not re-capture it within that three-day time period. |

I think this is how I thought when I was thinking about posting earlier. Maybe I out thoguht myself. ![]() But seriously, I don't think it would make sense to have Pirates capture a port to gain access to its rare resources, thereby having to use plots to gain said resources, only to lose access to them, and presumably the plot, after 72 hours. I can't see Pirates being able to enter many non-pirate controlled ports too often given that the Nationals are naturally hating the pirate folk. |
