thanks DF, doesn't look half bad, at least it looks like it has some polish of it. I might check it out later in the week, but for now I'm gonna try to find my old copy (did I ever even have one?) of Sid's Pirates.

Couple notes from playing....

Skill system not fixed in the least able to learn a variety of skills very easily, these skills increase in effectiveness by learning new "stunts" which are skills within a skill set ex. Pistol use may have a stunt called sniping. As you earn experience and level up a skill set you gain stunt points to use.

Combat is open seas PVP area once your of proper level, Ships fire by command or you can set auto fire when within range. No manual aiming etc... except steering of your vessel, which there are stunts for such as persuit to chase after fleeing victims. It is possible to grapple and have a deck fight (very similar to POTBS style actually) I have yet to try that out....

Crafting is grab the skill and tools find a spot and mine...then create compounds like metal into pig metal etc... and recipes have to be purchased from blacksmith.

Its a fun distraction atm im fooling around with it...if you try it let me know...

Kind of fun once you get a hang of things. I sailed from Alexandria to Amsterdam and Hamburg on a ship escourt.

Finding trainers was a pain until I figured out they're marked on the stupid city map.

Graphics is pretty cool.

Character creation is non-existent. Pick from 4 character types, male/female, then a face and hair color and that's it. You can start either in Athens or Alexandria and for God's sakes, DON'T go into the Cyprus port. I got nuked. :)

this is a nice game as a distraction, but i played it and after a while its not worth it

i won't spoil any of your fun by listing what sucked about it(yet)
so heres whats fun about it

theres a mission to find "boobies" at a certain location, i think it was an adventurer mission(il bringup a screenshot later when i can find it)

and storms are kind of nice

cyprus isnt bad at lvl 8...gotta be careful when u land the wolves will attack you...and they can kill you if ur not armed properly...

If we get i think 5 people in game we can make a guild to facilitate communication and what not...

And i agree Xenus i havnt found a long last appeal its a distraction...but its fun and the graphics aint half bad...

im sure this comes to late(for people who are into exploring), but do NOT try to go all the way around the world, the world is flat in this game, you will run in to an invisable wall

personal experience here, a slow little ship going from the mediteranian all the way around africa, on to asia, and then i thought id go back by going past the south tip of america, bad idea, i had spend 2 days(not gaming all the 48 hours) exploring that way

just a little warning :)

All Free... the hook, you can buy points for upgrades and experience. Otherwise, you can just play and grind the old fashioned way for free.

Ok... how do you smelt and make lumber?

This is all I could find which doesn't tell me shite:

Quote:
7. Smelt of ores
7.1 Players can not produce the ores directly into equipment before the ores are smelt into metal.
7.2 Every 3 ores can be smelted into a metal. There is no fail rate in smelting activity. Each smelting activity will cost 5 stamina points. Ores of high grade can be smelted into metals of low level; however, ores of low grade can not be smelted into metal of high level.
7.3 Ores that are kept in the warehouse can be smelted into metals too

Moon Tell it to stop seeding....and click the file you downloaded to install the game....Im assuming its the exe file or some other image file....

Alokorben After gathering Click Ctrl+A this opens your action menu under this menu look under each tab for skills that say Composition or componding or some such they should be easy to find the Timber one looks like a saw and log and Ore looks like a kettle pouring out liquid metal

Hope that helps if not http://nerfshot.com/myshot.php?img=405.jpg

F2 is my Ore hotkey F3 Is timber....so you have an idea what they look like

Anyone resource collecting...get quests from the alliance guild that deals with Handyman skills decent cash gain and xp for doing what you would normally do anyways to level up

***Added server list and player names to top of page

Close the Torrent program you are using....
Go to where the file is stored on your harddrive and click on it (the file you downloaded)

That or download it from a non-torrent source such as fileplanet

I made a toon named Cord ... on Magellan.

I played for a few hours this afternoon, looks like most were on Magellan so that's why I picked it. (In retrospect I feel bad, seeing as DF started this thread and is all alone... )

I just been doing trade runs and escorts mostly, I've been successful at fending off pirate attacks with the cannons, one time I got boarded though and my crew got slaughtered. It's a decent enough game though, although it seems to lack a community feel to me.

An additional tip:

Doing quests/joining guilds that are unrelated to your particular profession is possible and very good for gaining money/lvling skills.

If your doing merchant quests buy a new ship (you can have more then 1) switch to it via the Dock Master using the dock option he offers, upgrade it in athens to lvl 1 Frieghter or Adventure ship and use it....same goes for merchant doing combat quests the reason for this is Structure leveling or military equipment leveling on ships not ment for merchantenting or military is useless and wont help you level on your desired path...

for example atm i have a lvl 2 Battleship and a lvl 1 Freighter when i want to do merchant like things

kinda hard to explain but hopefully you get where i was going with that post

I've been getting 5000-6000 silver doing Adventure quests and got enough rep to get a title.

Working on my level 2 Raider ship and the stupid wolves keep attacking me in Geona. Grrrr....

i have over 1(maybe 2) million silver i remember, not sure if my account still exists after all this time, got that much before upgrading to lvl 2 ships

basicly found it all on drifters in south east asia, some of the drifter groups had 100k in silver(divided over several little things of 10k) and a lot of nice thingys for your ship

the thing is just that south east asia is abandonned by evrybody, and the towns suck, and you can sail for an hour without finding any other ship

also, my brother was playing it for a whiel too and asked a veteran player for "some change" and he got 10million

don't get too exited about having lots of money :P

I have a mining title at level 11. Decided it was time to do a bit of sailing, went offshore and got stuck for a half-hour and can't figure out how to complete the first adventurer quest :/
Think i'm going to stay on land for a while.

I played way too much today...in fact i'm still gathering resources. I've been around to many ports, and am now in Genoa working towards building a level 2 merchant vessel (by myself). Need level 11 mining and timber to process the level 2 lumber and ore needed (nice thing is you can afk most of it).

We need 5 of us on at the same time if we want to open the guild ingame.

You sail to the general coordinates they give you and you should see some sparkles appear. Go to the middle of the sparkles and then click the "Discovery" icon. It will ask you how many sailors you want to send out and then you wait... and wait... and wait until it tell you what you've discovered.

and to finish the exploration explaination, if it says all your sailers died, sail back, get more, and try again

Another tip... Get the medical skill...that way you can passively level it up whenever you use med kits or Recovery Kits... This skill increases your maximum SP points as it upgrades (very important for combat and resource collection process)

I have lvl 3 Medical atm (just purchased it when i realized what it did...wish i had it before) My SP went from 115 to 124 already from using 5 Recovery potions...

yeah, it seems like it's almost usefull to get ALL the skills available, as the only reason not to is money...and money seems to be easy enough to get.

Another tip... Get the medical skill...that way you can passively level it up whenever you use med kits or Recovery Kits... This skill increases your maximum SP points as it upgrades (very important for combat and resource collection process)

I have lvl 3 Medical atm (just purchased it when i realized what it did...wish i had it before) My SP went from 115 to 124 already from using 5 Recovery potions...

yeah, it seems like it's almost usefull to get ALL the skills available, as the only reason not to is money...and money seems to be easy enough to get.

very true although I only have 2 of the weapon skills

btw use Cutlass or Falcion (sp?) reason being that for boarding actions to decrease in defense of the other skills decreases the defense of your sailors...
