Tonight was a fun night. Ravage escorted Jaade and I through some level 1 missions, and one level 2. The level 2 was intense for us rookies but we had a blast. What made it even better was the game's built in voice chat system. Very cool.

Jaade and I are both up to flying Tristans now, armed with 2 missile launchers and a 150mm rail gun. I'm sure it's laughable to you guys who are veterans of Eve, but I'm loving missiles at this level.

Do you still have to pay extra for the voice chat or is it a built in feature now?

i used to love missiles too, but as gallente ships gennerally dont have missile launcher points i stopped training them after frigates

and its not that laughable, i remember when i flew a tristan, its such a nice little frigate :)

gratz on the tristans, really nice ships

Built in now apparently.

Yeah, voice chat seems to be built into the game, accessable by right clicking on your fleet, or private chat tab and hitting join audio... can join additional channels as well, but for obvious reasons only one of them you can speak in at a time. (switchable as well) seems fairly well integrated.

As for the missions we were running, yeah... some of them got pretty hairy for the both of you, need to learn that although the backstory in the game may tell you so, a noob pod pilot is far from a god. heh.

As for your little mishap this evening, didn't i mention not to try level 2s on your own till we get you in some cruisers? So reckless the young ones are. Patients padawan.

WOW has this as well and I hope most games decide to put this in going forward :)

As I think I told you on your first day with me (Aravorn) in chat, the Tristan was my favorite ship for level I's.

And yes I did a LOT of level 1's in a Dessie.

Glad you guys are having fun.

Which NPC corp are you working?

Working for the Feds... which is difficult for me to accept, given my RL political ideals. :P

I'm also working with a Banking and Investment corp, but I can't remember the name.

If you plan on playing long term start thinking about building standing with the NPC corps that have Research and Development agents.

The Gallente ones off the top of my head are:

Duvolle Labratories

Rodan Shipyards

Creodron

Basically to make a long story short, once you have enough standing and science trained to V, as well as another science skill (like Mechancial Engineering) you can start "research" at an R&D agent.

Depending upon skills in social, standing, and the flavor of R&D agent you start accumulating research points per day. Those points are traded in for "datacores".

Datacores are used in the manufacture of Tech 2 stuff, like Assault Frigates or Afterburner II's. And there is a never ending demand for all flavors of datacores.

So once you have standing and some basic skills trained up you can start research and its a constant-passive-source of income. Just go to the agent every monthn or two, trade points for datacores, and then sell the datacores on the market.

After Science V, and one other science skill (like Mech Eng for mech eng datacores), you can train lab operation to V, and research to V, so you can then train research project management. Every level of that gets you one more agent you can work.

With some up front time and standing grind you can set up a very nice passive way to get infinate steady income.
