I was reading through wookieepedia and found in the TOR entry that TOR is going to be a fully-voiced MMO.

This was announced at E3-2009 and this is the link for it.
It is a video and I am unable to comfirm this due to limitations on the net where I am.

Could anyone elaborate what "fully-voiced MMO" means?

Every line of dialogue is spoken, rather than just being text on the screen. Done by professional voice actors.

Nice feature... though I wonder if it would take too much bandwith.
(living with the internet connection I have, I might disable that until moving to Denmark, Norway, Canada or even the states. And Yes I have considered U.K.)
P.S. Exam in 1½ month, then we'll see what direction my life will go.
P.P.S. If anyone wanna try and advitice for which contry to live in, please do so, but in another thread :-P

I suspect the in-game voice assets will be installed on your machine via the purchased game media along with all the other game assets, such as art 3D models and textures. The only way in which your bandwidth would likely be affected is if they have in-game VOIP.

As the saying goes, just my 0.02 credits.

Following what you're saying then the game is gonna take up atleast 15 GB on the initial realease, going higher with more quests through patches and expansion packs...
Although 15 gigs isn't that much nowadays...

Now I have worked with 3D for some time now so I know that a 3D-model of a humanoid with a medium number of polygons without texture takes up about 3 to 10 megs. With amny or all of the models in the game it'll count upwards. While I would believe the main bulk of the texture comes from DirectX 9.0c library the might be a number of textures compressed on the harddrive. Presuming one of those compressed file contain textures for about 30 models it'll prob take up about 20 megs for each file...
The sound bit are fair. Background music is just like any other mp3. Between 5-10-15 megs for each musicfile depending on length and/or quality.
The basic soundeffects which, usually lasts around 1 second (for the majority) to 10 seconds for some of them, doesn't take much space... but the quest explanations which could last up to a minute or even more (although the explaing will probably be cut up to three for four segments) with take up between 3 and 10 megs... again depending on length and quality....

I dunno why I just wrote this but I had to get it out of my system... I'm currently insomniac for 36th hour in a..... something... dang foreighn language...

Anywho..

Goodnight. I'm off to sleep...

MMOGamer did an interview with Blaine Christine from Bioware who is a producer. I don't have the link because its blocked at work but if you went to MMOGamer Im sure it would be easy to find.

I bolded the very interesting parts which I think will be very interesting to Avians in general:

Quote:
The MMO Gamer: So then, can you put it in context? What’s the experience going to be for the average player, the breakdown between time spent doing essentially solo activities versus group based ones?

Blaine Christine: That’s entirely up to you. We want to cater to different play styles.

Our intent is to make the game entirely solo-able. If you want to go through and solo, if you’re that type of player, you can play it as essentially a single-player experience.

Of course, you’re going to have other people running around you when you’re in the areas like Hutta, just like you would in any other MMO.

But if you choose to pursue the story on your own, you can do that.

Similarly, if you’re a social gamer, and your core gameplay is you want to get into the game, play with your guild, group up with a bunch of people, and either just do combat or do quests together, we’re going to have a lot of opportunities for group quests so that you can do that.

I got a question the other day, “Hey, if I’m really into more the crafting, harvesting, auction house type of gameplay, are you going to support that?” Absolutely.

If you want to spend a lot of time in the game being great at crafting—we haven’t talked about the specifics yet, but we’re going to have an entire system like you would expect—you’ll be able to play the game of crafting, harvesting, selling things on the auction house, do that type of gameplay, as well
.

Now that is interesting. The question is going to be though, how in-depth is it?

PotBS had an intricate crafting system, which fits the description given here for TOR but it was no fun to play. If it's like SWG but without the bugs then I'd be moderately happy. If it's better, then I might be wasting a fair amount of my life in this thing!

Has BioWare done an MMO crafting system before?

No. I understood ToR to be BioWare's first foray into the MMO market. I also do not recall any crafting in their single player titles.

But, I still trust that the good Doctors will ensure combat, story, and crafting are all well implemented in ToR.

There's an element of crafting in the NWN games, however, it's nowhere near up to scratch. They'd need a ground up look into it for the MMO.

Does anyone follow the backstory of this game?

'cause I would like to make a discussion about this, though I am cautious since it will contain spoilers for KotOR I & II, 'Tales of the Jedi' and to some extent the KotOR comics...

Should i start a new topic for this or should I just go on on this thread?

New class announced for Star Wars: The Old Republic

Hot on the hills of confirming the Jedi Knight class for new Star Wars MMO The Old Republic, LucasArts has announced the Imperial Agent as the latest addition to the line up.

Where as most of the other characters are based on existing Star Wars stawarts such as Han Solo (Smuggler) and Boba Fett (Bounty Hunter), the Imperial Agent is not immediately linked to an existing fan favourite.

“He uses subterfuge in order to infiltrate and assassinate enemies of the Empire”

We asked producer Blaine Christine to explain exactly what players can expect from an Imperial Agent: “He works behind the scenes doing the real dirty work of the Empires. He specialises in high tech gear and always has the right gear at the right time. He uses subterfuge in order to infiltrate and assassinate enemies of the Empire with deadly efficiency. Players who play as Imperial Agents will see the underbelly of the Empire in a way never before seen.”

That currently brings the character classes announced to six but we’ve been assured that more will be revealed very soon.

BioWare and LucasArts have revealed the sixth of eight character classes in their Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic: the Imperial Agent.

This rogue-style class on the Empire side specialises in subterfuge, infiltration and assassination, doing the Empire's dirty work behind the scenes. Imperial Agents' skills will be based around the use of high-tech gadgetary.

They will show you "the underbelly of the Empire in a way never before seen," producer Blaine Christine told press at an EA event earlier this week.

There was a hint that Imperial Agents would be coming to the game when they were detailed in a timeline trailer earlier this year.

Agents join Sith Warriors and Bounty Hunters on the Empire side, and face off against Jedi Knights, Smugglers and Troopers fighting for the Republic. That leaves two classes to be revealed.

We may or may not be doing just that when we bring you more on Star Wars: The Old Republic in a few weeks' time.

Any guesses as to the last two?

I say Droid and Midochlorian Miner.

Ok seriously....

Sounds like they aren't using the standard MMO classes (Support, Tank, Damage Dealer)

So I'll say:

ok....maybe I don't have any better guess than those above. Fact is they are missing dedicated diplomats, merchants, Imperial Grunts, and Rebel Spies, but I somehow don't think that's what's coming next.

the last two classes are .................................(wait for it) ...........................
(1) Jedi Consular and (2) Sith Inquisitor

Yes, two more Force claims. I am not pleased at the moment, was hoping for something more creative like how they are doing the Imperial Agent but I will have to see how these two new classes will be implemented.

The link is to the official forums where someone translated the article from German into English.
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=91636

These classes look to be more Force than Lightsaber users, with the ability to spec for healing.

y'know i don't ever recall jedi of any form healing on the fly in combat from cannon material.

the whole concept they're trying to employ with this game has left me less than pleased.

doubt i'll ever give it a glance when it released unfortunately.

I don't recall it either.

The nearest canon there is for healing on fly is S-canon from JK II, JK III and the Kotor series.

wonder if they'll make a historical site "future point of impact of the death star beam cannon" wonder if that site would get many visitors... *ponders*

SOE would prob. have done so trying to attract players. Bioware could do it, but the might make it into an easter egg.
