And Bioware? Don’t make me laugh. They’ve spent more money making the Old Republic than James Cameron spent on Avatar. Shit you not. More than $ 300 million! Can you believe that?

And you know what they’re most proud of? This is the kicker. They are most proud of the sound. No seriously. Something like a 20Gig installation, and most of it is voiceover work. That’s the best they have. The rest of the game is a joke. EA knows it and so does George Lucas, they’re panicking , and so most of Mythic has already been cannibalized to work in Austin on it because they can’t keep pushing back launch.

Old Republic will be one of the greatest failures in the history of MMOs from EA. Probably at the level of the Sims Online. We all know it too ……

I have not read all of the posts over there. But I think personally, Bioware has earned the benefit of the doubt in the field of pc gaming.

Has Bioware ever made a bad game?!

BioWare and Blizzard are the Pixars of the gaming world in their genres. They always just seem to top themselves, their production levels are top notch, and they flat out know their business.

BioWare has never done an MMO before, and I'm guessing there is a steep design learning curve. I've got lots of reservations about it myself. However, I certainly think it'll be a successful and enjoyable product. If they depart too much from "traditional" MMO game design, they may lose fans of the genre while still making a fun game. Regardless, I'm betting it'll be fun to play for a while, and BioWare should almost certainly be given the benefit of the doubt.

I agree with the above Avian posts. Bioware deserves the benefit of the doubt based on their track record. MMOs are new to them so there may be some aspects of it people do not like but I don't see it being a complete flop.

I think at worst it will be a single-player game with a story line that will result in no desire to keep an extended subscription.

Apparently, only about 10% of the game will be the single player story. or something like that. Read the info thread that Cyrus linked into in one of the other threads, it has a lot of good info and answers a lot of the questions we're raising here.

EDIT: It was actually Deak, and the link is here

Before Blizzard released WoW they had not experience with the MMO field and look how well they did.

Exactly, MGJ. I believe I was a very big doubter about WoW pre-launch, too. I didn't think it was going to be any good, thought Blizzard didn't have enough experience to make a good MMO, and thought it looked too cartoony.

I still think WoW is a damn fine game. My little brother has convinced me to get back into it before the expansion comes out, so I'm leveling a new toon, again. And I still enjoy the game. Some of the early levels are the most enjoyable, I think. They've also done massive amounts of work on the game. I thought it was pretty polished when last I played regularly, over a year ago. It's even more so now, with better tutorials to start the game, tighter textures (that are apparently getting even better with the new expansion), and the classes seem more streamlined and make more sense to me intellectually on their design now.

If BioWare is even 50-75% as successful with SWTOR as Blizzard was with WoW, I'm going to enjoy the game for a long time.

Whats WoW? and how'd that work out for them  I've always been impressed by WoW's success but have never really felt the urge to play it... I have tried a trial for a brief period.

I think my main point was that sp/storyline is what bioware does, so everything else could suck except for that part and I would still give it a go, at worst it would result in only a few months subscription...

The reason the correlation between WoW and SW:TOR works for me is that both Blizzard and BioWare are Story-centric gaming companies. Story-telling is there strengths, and tactical game-play is a secondary strength both companies excel at.

However, my reasoning that SW:TOR does have potential to possibly blow WoW out of the water is that BioWare is far superior to Blizzard at the depth of their storytelling. Although Blizzard has great diversity in their storyline, and was able to widen it significantly for WoW, they do not have a lot of Depth in their Storylines. They go a few layers deep, but that's it. BioWare, on the other hand, has a wide storyline as well as a FAR deeper storyline that Blizzard. If they put the same focus into expanding on those strength that Blizzard did for WoW then SW:TOR will be THE MMO of the decade. IMHO
