Are they really the same?

To me it looks like the boring SWG UI took a swig of WoW juce. I like it, cant think of much more that I would like to add to the UI.

So it turns out that isn't the same video, but was still interesting and more than i've seen so far. In that one, it sounds like the gui may be a placeholder, as the one they built got scrapped for taking up too much screen real estate. Did he mention anything like that during the live broadcast video? |

I think what we all are seeing is the new UI. The old one had more bulk and was not minimalistic. There is a Dev Blog about this a month or two ago. The Demo was not the best. Mostly because his combat was boring, with him standing in one spot. Also there was a lot of traveling he had to do. Tat is supposed to be a vast open place, they designed it as such, and that was part of what made the demo boring. This is the reason you first mount is given to you on Tat, you will need it. I think if we were playing instead of watching the vastness and traveling would not fee as boring. Early in the video the NPCs looked to be motionless when he approached the mission terminal. Got a real lifeless feel form that. The graphics were also turned down, compared to other videos. Not a bad thing, graphic scalability will be good for communities like ours who aren’t buying new computers just for this game. I liked getting to see everything, but I think this demo shows there still is much the developers need to polish before release. Six months to Christmas, I think this game is will be hard pressed to release in 2011. |

I have some concerns that the game looks very similar to SWG as it exists now, mechanics wise. I am sure the story telling and such are very different, but I sure see A LOT of similarities. The UI is virtually a direct port of the SWG UI, and the skill system and hot bar and even the player behavior seems very similar. Wonder how much of SWG got cannibalized and put into TOR.... |

SWG had a lot of bugs that never got fixed and the mad overhauls were stupid, but, when it first came out, there were still a lot of things that it did right.

I agree, it's not that close to SWG when you consider it needs to look Star Warsy. |

the "new" SWG interface and button art is very similar to what you see in TOR. I don't think its a bad thing per se, just an observation. I would prefer TOR had nothing to do with the trainwreck that SWG became.... |
