Next week, representatives of over 150 guilds from around the world will be coming to Austin, Texas to take part in BioWare’s inaugural Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ Guild Summit. During the summit, guild members will have the opportunity to speak with the development team, and see a preview of what the future holds for the game.

When the Guild Summit was announced, we received thousands of applications from passionate fans who were willing to travel from all parts of the globe to take part. While we were humbled by the overwhelming response, we couldn’t accept every application for space reasons. However, we don’t want any of you to miss out on the details either. That’s why we are excited to announce that portions of the Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild Summit will be streamed live!

On Monday, March 5th, we will be hosting a livestream of the Guild Summit, which you’ll be able to watch by visiting http://www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com/GuildSummit. Here’s our full schedule of events for the livestream:

* 10:00AM CST (4PM GMT) – Welcome and Introductions
* 10:30AM CST (4:30PM GMT) – State of the Game and Game Update 1.2 Presentation
* Break (Livestream offline from 11:00am to 2:00pm)
* 2:00PM CST (8:00PM GMT) – Operations and Flashpoints Discussion
* 2:45PM CST (8:45PM GMT) – Player vs. Player Discussion
* 3:30PM CST (9:30PM GMT) – Legacy Presentation
* 4:00PM CST (10:00PM GMT) – Economy and Crew Skills Discussion
* 4:30PM CST (10:30PM GMT) – Roleplayer's Discussion
* 5:00PM CST (11:00PM GMT) – Guild Features Discussion
* 5:30PM CST (11:30PM GMT) – User Interface Presentation
* 6:00PM CST (12:00AM GMT) - ...And The Rest

Throughout the day you will be able to not only watch each of these discussions, you’ll also be able to take part in them. We’ll be taking questions from the livestream throughout the event, although we will have to limit the number of questions answered for time. You can also discuss the Guild Summit on Twitter using the hashtag #SWTORSummit, and we’ve created a Guild Summit Forum for you to discuss each of the sessions with other viewers.

If you’re unable to watch these livestreams on the day, we’ll be providing recorded versions of each presentation and discussion after the event.

Whether you’re attending in person or will be watching online, we look forward to your comments during the Guild Summit!

If I remember, I'll probably watch the live stream from after the break, by which time I'll be back from work. It's a shame I'll miss the 1.2 update presentation. I'll have to watch that when they release the recorded version.

As predicted, I missed the first bit. I'll be watching the rest and I'll post some live updates here as and when I can.

Update 1.2 trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtnLMcWdARY

Apparently, 1.2 will be out early April. (That's all I've managed to gather from reading around so far.)

Holy crap they have a lot coming in 1.2. That is almost a whole new expansions worth of new features, even if it isn't new "content" per se like new zones, planets, etc. That is a ton of work being done. They are either still working like mad, with a very large team, or had a lot of this very well underway by launch.

I would suggest they've been working on it for some time but time constraints meant cutting them from launch.

By the way, I don't plan to flesh these notes out as the videos will be released after the event.

I caught a little of the Ops talk at lunch, and was excited to hear about their plans to have ops split into group to do simultaneous objectives a la Return of the Jedi, with a ground mission, space combat, and something along the lines of the Luke/Vader fight, all at the same time, all affecting the other groups. That sounds ambitious and cool.

The "mentoring" to adjust levels for characters to group with characters of different levels and run flashpoints together sounds good too. Was that for 1.2, or an undetermined timeframe?

Please share some stuff about the legacy. That's what I most want to hear about.

I will, they're running behind time so I have little time to type due to absence of breaks. I'll add it all in before I go to bed.

Legacy

Things in 1.2:
Family tree
Achieving lvl 50 unlocks that species for alt for any class
- for human, adds presence buff
- for cyborg, unlocks all cyborg parts
Achieving chap2 unlocks class emote for all chars + class buff
achieving chap3 unlocks heroic ability (ie all classes using force choke)
complete companion story
- shorter cooldown on heroic moment
- stat boost
- presence buff for each additional companion story completed
Max alignment unlocks alignment stuff regardless of alignment
valour ranks unlocks unarmed duels
social ranks unlocks dance with companion + packages of lots of emotes
All legacy can be purchased if you pay enough but will lag implementation by at least a patch.
Anything already unlocked will be gained when 1.2 goes live
Cooldown reductions on emergency pass and quick travel
sprint moved to level 1 - not legacy
new tier sprint (jet pack or rocket boots) (not actual jetpack just cool animation)
ship
- training dummies - ops and wz
- repair droid - will buy junk, sell er stuff, craft upgrades for c2-n2 and allow him to gain affection
- mailbox
- gtn (vvvv-why the hell do you want this-high level requiremint)
items
- epic weapons and armour for lower level alts
- bind to Legacy instead of bind on pickup
Appearances
- Orange items

Future
- rewards to customise the gaming experiences of a new alt (eg pvp only)

From discussion:
Share legacy with other players - want but long long way off
Can't change spieces of an existing char
Cosmetic changes post-creation - not yet
Abitlity to change equip whole outfits - even later
legacy buffs apply to whole party
Legacy bank - on the table
- mail restrictions lifted at 1.2 to make easier to transfer items between chars
currently no plans for more char slots
XP buffs in 1.3
no current plans for legacy flashpoints
multi-spec coming but not in 1.2
ability to change name, char and legacy - at some point
legacy level cap currently 50 but expandable (some people really need to get lives if they're there already!)
voice restraint for c2-n2
companions in family tree some time in future
cosmetic ship upgrades - way long in future

... and the rest

in 1.2:
unify to chest back in
- each item can be switched
- not necessarily colour matched but a system designed by the artists to look good
high res textures

later:
Dual/multi spec
- 1: switch skill trees
- 2: switch gear too

more story - this year

Mini games - low priority but love to have.

Great work...

Would love to add you guys to the friendlist, despite you guys being offline...

Which bring to:

Can I, as a player, find Avian Technology and apply for membership ingame or do I have to be invited?

Well I'm going in 8 post meridiem London time. (yeah I googled it...)

Look for "Peran" in Coruscant. Lvl 11 or 12 Jedi Sentinel.
Alternatively "Jalyx" on Ord Mantell lvl 3-4 smuggler, which I had to reroll...

I'll try and see if I can make a ventrilo thing on my computer later on tonight...

FINALLY!!!

I have begun to appreciate the droid more lately as I've begun to look at it as we are now put in the shoes of Han in a way, but that bucket of bolts is still really close to having an "accident" with the nearest airlock.

The videos don't seem to be forthcoming (although a number seem to have appeared on YouTube in some form or another) so I was thinking of doing fleshed out posts of my notes above. Do you guys want me to do these in new posts or just edit the posts I've already done?

New ones are generally better, as it is much easier to see the updates. I wish they'd just post some of the videos or some written summaries somewhere. Of course, then they'd be more accountable for their ideas and promises. If everyone is looking forward to something 'cause it was written up on the site, and then it changes or doesn't happen, I can see people being irritated. I think they want to keep these conversations a little more informal. I'm happy they are doing them.

Ops and Flashpoints

When SWTOR first came out a lot of testing had been done but not enough at the high level and not really as coordinated groups. Since launch, BioWare have been encouraging high level guilds to do more rigorous testing of the operations content and this has started to bear fruit with fewer bugs getting through to live and those in live being fixed more quickly. They are extending this in a big way from here on and are specifically doing guild transfers to the Test Server to test the high end content for 1.2.

I don't know much about Operations switching to normal loot mode as I'm not really sure what it was before. I think they are working on an intelligent loot system for Operations but it's not really working for the moment.

It is generally accepted that the current Operations are too easy, even on the hardest modes. They are aware of this and are working on it. There is a new Operation in 1.2 and it is upping the challenge a bit. It should require more coordination from the players to complete. This coordination requirement is where they are putting their efforts for future Operations to make them harder.

They have renamed the Normal mode to Story mode with the aim that it shouldn't be too hard but allows people to get involved in the story. The galactic story continues into these operations. The harder modes are where they are expecting people to be challenged and to have to gear up for.

They have a team working on animations and visual clues as they want people to have a better sense of what's going on without having to constantly look at the UI.

There is a new Flashpoint in 1.2, which will conclude the Rakgoaul series of flashpoints.

They are working on a proper, clever group finder tool. This should make it in 1.3.

From the discussion:

There was a request for a mentoring system where a higher level character has his level adjusted to that of a lower level character for them to run a flashpoint together. They said it was an interesting idea, but I don't recall there having been anything done on it.

There was a request for achievements, such as running an operation in the fastest time. BioWare are keen on this and it's on the to do list.

There will be limited PVP crafting in 1.2 with the aim to extend it in later updates. I don't recall actually what would be in in 1.2 but don't expect much.

There was a request for a combat log so that people can see how well they are performing. Bioware don't want to implement this fully as it could risk people being kicked out of a group for not doing very well. However, there will be a limited log in game, such as who killed what, and there will be the ability for you to save to disk a complete combat log for your own character. Whether you chose to share this is then up to you. These are in for 1.2.

Someone requested a RotJ style, split the party, operation where you need to achieve different objectives simultaneously. BioWare really like this idea and are working on it. But it won't be out soon.

Someone requested a "ready check" for groups. I'm assuming this is an automated system akin to saying "ready" on voice? I understand there is something like this in WoW. Anyway, this was a "Duh!" moment as BioWare had not thought of this. However, it is now on the list!

In 1.2 we will be able to Reverse Engineer some of the Operations loot gear drops to obtain schematics. This is likely to be extended later.

There was a request for more open world bosses to fight. I can't remember what the answer to this was other than just a "there will be more" response.

As you'd probably expect, these fleshed out posts will be going out slower time as they take some time to do. I aim to get at least one out each night and I may get them all done by the end of the weekend.

The other thing to note, as you may have gathered, is most sessions started off with a presentation giving current state of things, what's new in 1.2, plans for the future, and then it was opened to the floor for discussion. That should go some way to explaining how my notes are split up.

The Devs have been doing some clarifying over the past week so I point you to the Dev Tracker Blog Post, which contains links. Note particularly Georg's posts.

One bit I particularly want to highlight, because it wasn't clear to me when I was watching the Guild Summit, is that the use of Legacy Heroic Abilities is only during the Heroic Moment. As clarified in this quote:

Now if you introduce a system (i know very little about it so if people got info im curious) that you could choose a skill from another toon. Like a smuggler with a force shield from sage or the dash of the assassin. Or a Jugg with a grapple line or with maul of the assassin doing heavy backstab...

I just feel that some combination will be really OP. I just fear that since the balance is already REALLY FRAGILE on this game, putting such a big system in that require even more balance will be a total mess.

Like i said , i love the idea but that just scare me to death.
The Heroic Ability Legacy unlock doesn't allow you to pick any ability you like; that would indeed lead to some balancing nightmares.

There was very careful consideration over which abilities to allow as unlocks. With the limitations of the ability only being usable during your Heroic Moment (requiring an active Companion) and the cooldown on that, you shouldn't see too much 'Heroic Ability spam'. We see the unlock as a fun, limited ability that many players will enjoy. It wasn't designed to unbalance the game. :)

PvP

In 1.2 there will be a new Warzone called Novare Coast. This will use a 3-way majority control system. I'm assuming this means that there will be three teams and the victory objective is to control the majority of the key points or land or something.

1.2 will be introducing a ranking system to PvP, although they stress that this is just Phase 1 or a "pre-season" as they called it. It's to get the mechanisms out there and test them on the live system so that they can tweek them in later updates.

New Warzone dailies and new medals. I've not done any PvP so I don't really recall any more detail to these.

They are introducing a Vote to Kick mechanism and other things to tackle the AFK problems that are currently plaguing Warzones. (This brought a huge cheer!)

They are introducing tiering in Warzone gear. Tier 2 gear is called War Hero Gear. There will also be new lightsaber colours.

Again, I haven't done PvP and it doesn't really interest me so I wasn't paying much attention. I don't, therefore, know much about the context of this stuff.

In future (Post 1.2):

They want to introduce same faction vs same faction Warzones. The story for these would play out like training missions. They also plan to introduce cross-server queuing at some point which should solve some of the faction imbalance problems and waiting times.

They want to do on-demand tournaments. This would be where several pre-formed groups compete in Warzones and the winners then, retaining the same groups, play against each other and so forth until you have a winning team. These tournaments would be generated as required.

As hinted in the last paragraph, they want to enable persistent groups from Warzone to Warzone if the groups so choose.

They are not happy with Ilum. It's not working as intended and so the focus in 1.2 onwards will be on Warzones and open world PvP. They are going to do a complete reworking of Ilum and that will come back into focus at a later date. They want it to be more fun and have it be objective focussed.

From discussion:

Will the ability to place Bounties be put in game? They would like to see it, but it's just a "nice to have" at the moment.

Someone asked for the ability to challenge other groups/guilds to a PvP battle. BioWare said this will happen but not in 1.2.

It was mentioned that one of the Devs (Gabe?) likes to go around open world and randomly murder people (the dirty PKer!) because it's fun, apparently! Currently, this doesn't provide you with any rewards. They plan to introduce rewards for this style of play at some point.

Legacy

In 1.2:

The Legacy Family Tree allows you to define how your various characters are related to each other. There are apparently a number of options that includes things like friends, I believe.

If you create a character of a particular species and take that character all the way to level 50, that species will be unlocked for all classes for any future alt. For humans, a presence buff is applied instead. For cyborgs, it unlocks all the cyborg customizations.

Completing Chapter 2 for a given class unlocks a class emote and the class buff for all your characters, regardless of class. Completing Chapter 3 unlocks the Heroic Ability for that class, which can be used by any of your characters but only during the Heroic Moment.

Completing one companion's story reduces the cooldown on the Heroic Moment and gives a stat boost. For each additional story completed, a presence buff is gained.

Gaining the maximum alignment for a given character unlocks the ability to use gear of any level of that alignment by any of your characters.

Gaining certain ranks in valor unlocks various abilities for unarmed duels. Gaining social ranks unlocks a cool dance that includes your companions and various packages of emotes, lots of emotes!

They are aiming for it to be possible to purchase most Legacy items but the ability to do so will likely lag that item's implementation by at least one patch. This is to allow people who go to the effort of unlocking these items the chance to use them first.

It was noted that anything that you would have unlocked at the point that 1.2 goes live will be unlocked when 1.2 goes live.

Legacy levels will give cooldown reductions on the Emergency Pass and Quick Travel. It was also noted, although this is not a Legacy thing, that the sprint ability is being moved to level 1 in 1.2 and there will be a new tier of sprint with a Jet Pack or Rocket Boots animation that, I think, will be a Legacy unlock. It was also stress that the Jet Pack is not an actual Jet Pack ability but just a cool sprint animation.

There will be Legacy ship unlocks. Training Dummies, a repair droid vendor that will buy junk and will sell you upgrades for C2-N2 and enable him to gain affection (and therefore craft better), Mailbox and GTN (which they stated will have an exceptionally high unlock level).

There will be Legacy item unlocks such as epic items for your lower level alts. Bind on pickup will be replaced by bind to Legacy. I'm not sure if this will apply to everything or just Legacy items. There will also be Legacy Orange items.

In Future:

Legacy will grant rewards that will allow you to customise the gaming experiences of a new alt, such as allowing them to progress through PvP only.

From discussion:

There was a question asking whether you could share your Legacy with other players or incorporate them into your Legacy. They would like to do this but it's a long way off as they have absolutely no idea how to implement it well!

It was clarified that you won't be able to change the species of an existing character. It can only be defined at creation.

There was a request for cosmetic changes post character creation. The answer was not yet, but it is something that they would like to introduce. There was also a request for the ability to equip whole outfits in one go. That would be implemented even later!

It was clarified that use of a Legacy buff applied it to the entire party. With this system it will become easier to have parties composed entirely of one class.

A Legacy bank was requested. It was stated to be on the table. They did mention, however, that mail restrictions will be lifted in 1.2 to make it easier to transfer items between your characters. I think this may also apply cross-faction but I can't remember.

There are currently no plans to provide more character slots although this will be continuously reviewed. Legacy XP buffs are due to appear in 1.3. No current plans for Legacy flashpoints. I can't remember the context of this question. A question about multi-spec was asked, which is covered in more detail in a later section. The ability to change names, both character and Legacy, will arrive at some point.

Currently, the cap for Legacy levels gained is 50 but they stated there is no reason why it couldn't be extended. The person who asked this question mentioned that some in his guild had acquired 48/49 levels in Legacy and they were wondering if there was a cap. The response was that these people really need to get lives!!

C2-N2's comment frequency will be greatly reduced in 1.2 although reading the patch notes suggests that he will not be silenced completely.

The ability to add companions to your Legacy Family Tree will come at some time in the future. After all, what's the point in being able to marry companions if you can't add them in. Finally, it was stated that, due to the way that the ships are integrated into the story, cosmetic ship upgrades are long long way into the future, if at all. However, there is constant mention of a secret space project but, obviously, there are no details on that!
