Old news but it hasn't been posted here (are Avians still playing this game?). I couldn't stick it out with the monthly sub but once F2P hits, I'll be back in game. See y'all in November!

Same here. I had fun for a month or so, then it just wasn't worth it. But I will definitely kill some time with it for free.

Ditto. The patching stopped working for me and so I gave up after a while. In the end it really just doesn't have the depth I want in an MMO. I want to be able to do my own thing but everything is just geared towards following the story arc. I wish someone would just bring out another Star Wars sandbox, only do it right this time!

Is that SWG emu still coming along?

FYI - This is officially now F2P (three tiered similar to LOTRO to a degree). F2P is fairly limited, prefered (purchased game, subsribed or spent cartel coins) is a bit more bearable.

I actually cancelled my subscription a few weeks ago. I went for the 6 month sub though so it probably still has time on it. I'm assuming that I can now still play my account on a F2P basis if I wanted to? I might try that out maybe a few months down the line; I have still yet to get the story above the mid-30s for any character.

I am a preferred player.

I haven't played since post-2_month_launch when my free month ran out... (so... about 6 months)

They still don't accept my VISA...

Might try again dec 1st, hoping they fixed it by F2P-launch...

I haven't tried to re-join but I am assuming our old characters remain available to play. Think I got an email a week or two ago about some token to spend. I should dig that up...

Fourtunatly I wont have to explain too much about the game...

I play mostly for the story as well as RP'ing.

I convinced a friend to play as well. (We are as far as I know, 3 on whole Greenland who plays it.)
So he and I meet up every second weekend and work on our Troopers (I'm commando and he's vanguard - a great combo if you ask me.)

Aside from that I have 4 toons on an european RP server, where I am fiddling with the legacy system, which gives great RP opportunities.
Unfortunately there is not much from the legacy system unless you're at least lvl 25 with 1 toon.

My toons are still lvl 18 and below...
But for the sake of explanations I have:
1 Human Commando. The an older brother of a Jedi I have yet to create. Big and buff he is straight forward, honest, with a hint of flirty personality when females are around.
1 Twi'lek Smuggler (Planned Scoundrel) who is a Close friend and ally of the Commando. He is the adoptive father of a Pureblood Sith Warrior. A steadfast ally of the Republic, but does not want a full war, nor the destruction of the empire, due to concerns of his missing adoptive son.
1 Sith Pureblood Sith Warrior, adoptive son of the Twi'lek smuggler, who was drafted into Sith due to his high force potential. Emotionally lost and from that extremely aggressive, he seeks fairness and justice, from a scewed personal codex.
1 Miraluka Jedi Knight who is an upcomming rival of the Sith warrior. (A temp toon which will be deleted. Only there to get the legacy perks). A strong talented Jedi Warrior who asks too many questions from time to time. Planned to have him killed for RP purposes.

[Planned]
1 Human Jedi Knight. Younger brother of the Commando. Scrawny and small, but with a quick wit, he showed force talent at a very young age. Often wonders about his brother who is out on the frontlines...
1 Mirialan Bounty Hunter who is the adoptive parent of the two humans. Mandalorian to the core, he took the orders from Mand'Alor without hesitation, but kept to his clan. Didn't have children so by advanced age, he adopted two human boys who were left on the burning streets of Coruscant shortly after the event known as "Sacking of Coruscant" and raised them as his own. To secure the future of his boys he told them to do what feels right. A reluctant warrior at best he fears meeting his lost sons on the battlefield...

That was more than I expected, but atleast I've set the grounds for what I am playing through.

Since I came back an update came through to make it even more easy to customise the UI.
now it can be done in the game and saved as a profile, so one can load the setup to andother toon without a hitch.

I experienced the F2P and while I could pretty much play through the game as I wanted to (for the story) I was annoyed of the limited xp (post lvl 10) limited rewards, limited flight time (Space is limited to 3 spaceflights a week) and more.

I already like the game and feel it is intuitive. I just wanted all the small perks without having to resort to the "Cartel market" where I have to pay to unlock every single little thing.
So I opted for subscription, so the only thing I miss out on are mostly cosmetic and pvp equipment which I have to buy cartel coins for.

My little brother and I started again, very occassionally, as it was F2P. Beats paying for stuff. If we end up spending a lot of time playing, we might consider re-upping our subs again. I've got a friend at work who's trying it out now that it is free, too.

There have been some improvements, but if you weren't convinced to pay for it before, I still don't think you will be now either. At least the server populations are way, way up now. They only have 8 servers left open for U.S.

Post subject:  Re: SWTOR going free to play

So I've not played this for about a year now and I cancelled my sub last October. My main reasons for doing so were:
  • The increasing disconnect, as you levelled up, between the story in instances and the rest of the world breaking the immersion.
  • Lack of customisation for ships.
  • Lack of depth in the crafting system.
  • (This one's a little unfair) The fact that you have very few options that allow you to define the personality of your character in your interactions with NPCs.

So my questions are: Is anyone still playing? Has the game improved, in the last year, any of the above areas? Have there been any other major changes (barring F2P, which I already know about) that have significantly improved or affected the game?

They have improved in some areas, but, for your list of issues not so much.

Some of the new cartel items allow for more customization (butler suit for C2 droid on your ship?). 2.0 and the expansion are around the corner. 2.0 is going to shake up endgame gearing quite a bit and fix some of the brokenness that currently exists and also remove and shake up the skill trees. Crafting has augments and some other changes that make it slightly more useful, but it is never going to be particularly deep.

I'm just curious:
a) Is anyone still playing?
b) How is it different from 2 years ago?

I'm not playing anything. But I'm coming home in April so that could change.
