Danyale and I are buying our first house.

We have been seriously looking for a house for about a year. It has been an off and on thing, I would get pumped up about it for a few weeks and then I would be totally disgusted and stop looking. Rinse and repeat. Prices here in Baton Rouge are still much higher after hurricane Katrina. I get totally disgusted when comparing what I get for my money to what my parents and brother get just a few hours north.

Anyway, Danyale and I have been looking for a long time. We could never find a house that was in our price range, in a good location, and did not need a ton of remodeling. We could find houses that met two of those criteria but never all three. Until now! Plus this one has a large yard which is uncommon in Baton Rouge.

It is a bit smaller than I wanted, but it is not bad. It is in a great part of town. The original owners took great care of it and we really don’t need to renovate a thing. However for our own selfish reasons we are putting in new wood floors, carpet, and paint. If my budget can handle it we would like to put granite countertops in the kitchen, mount my TV and new surround sound package on the living room walls, and put in a privacy fence & automatic gate. Odds are my budget wont be able to handle it and I will do those last tasks plus update the two bathrooms in the following years.

We signed on it last month, and we close on it in two weeks. Our apartment lease will not run out until the end of November, but that gives me two months to do the walls and floors before I move my stuff in

I talked Danyale into hiring an interior decorator, the two of them have been busy choosing colors, lights, and other ideas. I have been busy looking for insurance, and getting quotes for the floors, walls, fence, speakers and other stuff.

Here are some pics… trust me; Danyale can make the place look much better once she starts moving our stuff in.

Ahhh, homeownership...the gamer's bane... (just kidding...mostly :P)

That's awesome, you guys! Congrats! The place looks great - here's hoping for many happy memories to be made there. Stephanie and I quite often talk about memories of our first house - good times.

Congratz.
Good to see somebody get's their own home.

I'm more or less home for the time being. But hopefully I'll get a dorm-room/-apartment within two months.
Suck to be up here.
Once I finish the education I'll apply for a greencard and go to the US, and find a job somewhere. I'll propably have better chances of finding some place to stay there than here.

Gratz...it's a wonderful thing and a maddening thing all rolled into one. (The good outweighs the bad though...)
