Just consolidating threads we have from a billion places on the new apparent craze that is TF2.

Post your handle in TF2, and Steam if different and you are on that system.

Steam = WarKryme (plan on using it in TF2 when buy game tonight)

Others I know of:
Acritus = Bricky T
Moge = mogegamer
GodofGophers = jaddboy

Thank you and I can't wait to get in on this action.

Played a bit with moge last night. Well... I should say we killed each other a few times waiting for the server to fill up and then he ran around like a headless chicken being all n00by. :P

Dammit. But still, one doesn't have to have a steam account to be in TF2 (at least I don't think so, still haven't had time to DL the game).

0.o I didn't realize you could even install any Valve software without installing Steam first... oh well.

Um, I think the best would be for everyone to join the Avian Steam Group and then we can friend up there and get into the same game. Even make an announcement when we plan to get together and frag.

And yes, I am Bricky T.

For some reason I cannot add Bricky T or LennyBoi to my friends list. Anyone having this problem?

Also, holy crappy DL speeds Batman. Like anywhere from 3kps to 75kps.

edit - left the cpu on over night and it all got finished. Will be on either tonight or tomorrow night.

No I posted asking about yesterday (i.e. Sunday afternoon/evening).

I will be available to TF2 or Halo 3 at our normal time tonight (Monday). I would prefer to finish Halo campaign off tonight then we can focus on TF2 and Halo PvP other weeks.

I'm getting frustrated with TF2... either I really suck at it or everyone is just that much better than me. When I do defense I'm pretty good at protecting CPs or Intelligence, my problem is offense. I spend most of my time running back to the "frontline" because it seems like I take one shot and I'm dead.

Even playing a Heavy with a doctor giving me his uber-healing, I step into the fray and WHAM, I'm dead.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I haven't played enough to know any strategies or tactics yet (only played 1 brief game as a sniper and I sucked hard). Part of that was also being too used to have strafe as the Q adn E keys ala WoW vs the normal A and D.

Once I can get a feel for things maybe I can post something.

i've played alot and I find that each class has its own quarks. I don't play heavy alot, its not really my thing but they are BIG targets, the best thing is to draw fire and have your teammates take out everything that hits you. Heavy is real simple, just point and click, and TF2 isnt about K/D ratio so dont worry :)

the best class for noobs I feel is solider, he has the HP and the DPS to do some good, but its really up to your play style. Try every class! I played Spy most through beta and now I dont play at all because people just shoot everyone they see, even teammates, because theres no friendly fire.

Also, you may be playing a map like hydro or dustbowl which are both very difficult to survive long in and thats ok, if you are wanting to play a long time per life play on a map like 2fort, well or even gravelpit.

If you got any specific questions i would be glad to give them a shot, but just gotta keep playing and watch what other people do, its the best way to learn. also get a really cool icon... that helps

I would also recommend trying Soldier for a while. You should be able to hang back and do good damage, especially if you have a Heavy in front of you taking the hits.

Playing a Heavy means you WILL be the target. Playing against a good coordinated team is hard in TF2. Often, a healer can't heal through the damage a few can dish. And a good sniper can, of course, head shoot you anyways.

For those just getting started I'd suggest playing a healer. It's a good way to get to know what they other classes do and it's pretty easy to do well with. And there never seems to be enough of them.

I have not logged on in a couple weeks. My mobo/hard drive died and just got it replaced when the inlaws came and ruined my gaming world with their presence. I'll try to get on later this week and will look you all up.

I have most of my playtime as a soldier, second is Pyro which I like, but damn, you have to be close. ;)

Pyro is tough! Nearly kamikaze like I'd say. If you can ignite a couple before you die, you've probably done your job. I'd say only demo is harder, at least for me. They do awesome damage, but all I seem to be doing is spamming mines etc and if someone comes after me, I die very fast.

Pyros are best in tight spaces. Out in the open you can't do much, especially if they see you coming from miles away.
They are also well suited for babysitting Engineers, being a spy detector, just flame anything that moves.
Also an Uber Pyro is pretty good at clearing out fortified positions quickly.

I've played Medic far more than anything else. And because I want to, not 'cause I feel I have to :). They really do make the difference, and far too few people play them.

Do you guys find most games of PUGs to be fairly balanced or do certain classes (except medic as healers are always not popular for the epeen) dominate?

Would be cool to really get into and play one of the less popular classes well.

certain maps I like playing the Engineer. I get very low kills but just keeping teleport open and a dispenser placed can add a huge advantage to your team.
On close quarters maps (two sides are close to each other) I play a Heavy. On technical maps I play an engineer. Again, you don't get big kills numbers but it is very useful to getting your team members back in the fight and the pressure on the opponent. Many Engineers just focus on sentries. I usually only set up sentries after I place ports and a dispenser.

An awesome duo team is a Medic/Heavy. When I get a good medic I can mow through 5-6 people in one go as a heavy -which is very satisfying :)

You guys are right on about the pyro and closed spaces!

The other day on Granary, we had some Blues holed up in our Intelligence room with an Engineer portal and they held out for what felt like forever! Finally, another healer and myself chain uber-d a pyro while he cleaned them out - lots of red cheers when that finally happened!

Also, their voice comms crack me up! "Mmm! Mm mmvr mmmere!"

Just a heads up that a few of us Avians are planning on getting into TF2 Mon Nov 12. Likely start around 630MST (830EST).

Would love to have any and all Avians with TF2 to come out for some gaming goodness.

Well, if anyone has a server that they can run a game on I would welcome them to do so and we can all join on there.

If not we can use the Steam voicechat feature and track down games that we can all get into.

My preference would be the former, naturally, but unfortunately I cannot host a server.

I heard that the pyro's supposedly a female. Check he resupply locker. There's a purse in there on the pyro's shelf.

Just a reminder of the event tonight. I will be online with Steam open around 615MST (815EST).

For those that do not have me on their Steam friends list yet, again, I am WarKryme. I will try and open a chat/voicechat within the Avian group where we can then form up and get into a group.

If anyone has other friends interested in playing by all means pass the invite on. Would be killer to be able to fill a private server with only people we know.

I'll probably be on a bit later than that, maybe 8 central or so, but I should be on.

Since my mobo was replaced there is something w/ my headphone/mic jack that isn't working. My speakers are fine, so I hear but I won't be able to speak. I know, your loss.

I have Angelus and Mads and maybe a couple others on my friends list. This could be a good time. Even 4-5 people working together can be very effective.

I was planning on being there but my plans have changed a little and while I'll still be there, it'll be later in the evening.

Heh! I played this weekend for the first time in a month maybe? It is a tremendously fun game but I was suprised at how much better the competition was.

Do we have ideas on what classes we will all go with? I don't mind being a healer. Just keep the pyros out of my face ok?

I played for just a few minutes last night. I still like the heavy and the eng the best with the spy in close for third.

Most of my time has been spent playing as a medic. Though I did also like the soldier and spy classes. Always wanted to play engineer but the teams I have been on have always had like 3 of them already.

I have a buddy at work that is still hoping to join us tonight.

I'm still on for tonight... in 30min actually.

UPDATE: and of course Steam isn't working now. I can't get into my friends list and can't join a chat room... I guess I will just try to follow everyone onto a server. not sure what else to do.

Just send a message to jaddboy. Then a msg will appear to join in his game.

Thanks for the game tonight guys. I think the server was full of TF2 vets cause damn some were tough to take down. I bet I had at least 2 nemeses at all times.

Nice surprise to have Daishus appear too :)

Yeah I had some fun, first time playing really so had a large learning curve. Ended up playing Engineering most of the night, til my laptop battery ran out on accident (cord came out of the wall)

Yeah, that was a blast, guys - thanks for setting a time, etc, Krynn!

This was the first time I really played medic much at all and it's quite a bit of fun - even had a few kills. Switch to ENG late in the game - always have fun in that role!

It was great to see a few familiar names (as well as new names for familiar gamers :P) and get a little good game time in with the Avian crew!

I think I'll put [ATT] as a prefix to my name. ;)
