I can be one of many today, but I wish to make it written so I can remind myself about it and be aware of that my promise has been sent out to everyone.

I have today May 9th 2005 at local time 21:45 decided to quit the cigarettes. I have been a slave of the for seven years now and finally I have the courage to stop.

The reason I stop is first of all the money and health, but also a more sentimental and symbolic reason.

I had two Zippo lighters, one from Canada, Ottawa and a black one named Black Ice from the company. Both got stolen from me three days ago and I have lost the need for cigarettes since. I see that as a sign to quit.

Today was the first day with less than 4 a day, so from tommorow I'm gonna say no to all tobacco offered to me.

I only make a little request and that is to ask all of you who has stopped to tell what made them stop.

Thank you for your time.

Azz...

If it helps to motivate, my dad was a heavy smoker when he was younger and it caused him to die an incredibly horrible death from cancer 25 years before expected...

Uhh not excactly. I don't listen to such things, sorry, but I do know about them. But another thing is that my roommate is busy to show me how much he enjoy his last cig.

I can tell you what made my brother stop smoking.

He has been married for several years now and he always wanted to have children. As we all know tobacco smoke is not healthy for small children (and has been shown to be conductive to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, as has been repeatedly pointed out by his wife who is an M.D.), they both decided to not have children as long they smoke. Last year they both decided it was time to quit.

Now they have a small boy named Georg, really a cute little kid.

Strongest incentive I know of.

Edward
