I took the time to download the test client, and copy my character last night. I hopped on a griph to SS, and quickly found my way to the battlfield which is located on the ridge above the yeti cave. I got there and there were so many people that I crassed twice just trying to get to the instance entrance. When I got there I saw about 50 people standing around for a chance to get in. What happens is you step into the portal and you are promted to select one of the 7 battlefield servers or first available. After about 30 minutes of waiting I finaly got into a server. When I got in it was a very even battle. The horde had captured 2 graveyards on the alliance side of the map, and the first was taken back about the time I arrived. The horde quickly retreated to the second graveyard as we began to attack it. Taking the second graveyard was near impossable since it was high on a hill with only 2 narrow entrances. We spent all of the hour I was in there trying to take it with nothing to show for it. Graveyards work on a 30 second timer, and every 30 seconds all dead players will rez which is way too fast. Every time we got to the top of the hill the level 55 guards would start hacking away at us making it impossable for us to keep the horde of ripping us apart. That on top of the reinforcements every 30 secs made it impossable to make progress. The overall battle is very slow, and I think it will be a major event when one side wins the battlefield. Its going to take some major overpowering to take every base on the map. On the bright side while I was in there I racked up about 200 HKs in an hour, so it seems that all of the XR and TM madness will stop, and all of the PvP action will head to the battlefields.

How was the lag?

And how many people are admitted to each side?

The lag is very bad when you first enter the area where everyone is fighting, but after that you shouldn't have too many problems.

Its 40 vs. 40

Its hard to tell. Ever class has their strenghts and weaknesses, but as the overall champs of PvP I would go with Rogues, Shamen, and Shadow Priest. These 3 classes have tons of survival skills that allow them to stay alive a long time while they nuke their opponents. Every class has its place in PvP however. The non healing classes have it the hardest since they don't last too long without a dedicated healer.

With player number caps then, you have wait outside until you can go it? That seems kinda odd. I suppose they really can't be instanced, but it just seems like a somewhat poor system for battlefields, especially with how popular they will be.

The battlegrounds are instanced, several going on at the same time, but they won't start until the sides are evenly matched, that's why there will be more waiting for alliance.

In fact you don't have to wait outside. You are put into a waiting queue when you try to enter the red portal to the battleground, after the that you can do whatever else you please. When there is server capacity to let you into one of the instances you get a prompt asking you whether you want to enter.

The Euro test server is really, really full, with tons of people waiting to play right now, but I only had to wait like 10 minutes to finally get the prompt for the Warong Gulch with over 50 different instances. This is Horde side, though, no idea how long Alliance would have to wait to get in. Guess when they see how popular tose things are, they will add extra capacity for the Instance servers.

Tried Warsong Gulch today and it was really good fun.

During the production system's downtime yesterday, I tested the Warsong Gulch BG a bit. I waited approx 3 minutes and once in, had excellent performance. I have no idea how many people were actually on since I was around no more than 4 others at a time. Clearly, coordination and teamwork will win or lose the day in BattleGrounds.
