I was doing a mission and my newbie ship can no longer cut the mustard so I purchased a shuttle as a holdover till I can get enough money for a good ship. Hehe the first time I ever had to go to warp to escape a fight.

What do I need to add to the ship to make it fly and how do I do that? What would be good cheap weapons for it? What should I be looking for next as a ship. I have only about 80 saved so far but I have missions that will earn me another 150 plus whatever I get after these two. I am far away from gallente space so I will be a while before I hook up with those and join the corporation.

Also, I am on the next to the last tab of the tutorial and still haven't learned about cloning or insurance. Is that in the tutorial?

ships:
What race are you?
Stay in te 'Rookie Questions' or whatever it is called chat tab, very helpful. You can ask anything there but more so you can just randomly read the questions asked and answer a lot of your own.

Shuttles have no weapons. They are made to just get you cheap and fast (shuttles are pretty fast) to another location to say, buy a new ship while leaving your other at home.

Depending on your race and what you want to do, combat or mining, get a Frigate. Those are next in the chain of ships you can buy. Frigates are combat or beginner mining ships read the descriptions to better help you. They are cheap so just buy one and if you dont like it switch.

Guns: Civillian Rails are actually not bad. Again, depends on your race. If your Caldari then get 75mm or 100mm rails with small uranium rounds use Antimatter rounds if you are asked to kill an outpost in space.

Add me to your buddy list, or Ill add you if you dont know how. If Im on ill answer all your questions. What is your character name? Mine is Moge TiraTru or Moniker. Im mostly on Moniker atm.

I am a Minmatar Brutor. They have one little cheap frigate for about 25k which I can afford now and outfit. The next one up is 175k-225k and out of my current price range.

Finish the tutorial, it's very quick at that point.

Do your first 8 agent missions, and you'll get about 400k total. Use that to buy your top-of the line frigate, as you'll use that for a while.

For now, just get 2 of whatever guns you can with your skill level. Get guns that cost about 10-20k. 100k guns are usually only about 10% better, and won't matter against pirates, which is all you'll be fighting for the first two weeks.

If possible, train to Standard Missiles so that you can get one or two basic missile launchers. That's all you'll need for a while.

I bought a super cheap frigat (25k) because I was getting beaten on the pirate missions. I just outfitted it today and will get to fly it tomorrow. I already have another in mind that costs 300k.

My other question is my new frigate has 3 high points to middle points and 1 low point. I have sufficient cpu and power grid for 2 weapons and a miner but yet I cannot load 2 weaps and a miner or 3 weapons. It says I dont' have the sufficient space for it yet that is not the case according to the ship description or the picture of the ship in the outfitting section which shows 3 high points.

High points can be a little tricky.

You need to look at a combination of a few things. number of High Points, number of turrent hard points and number of launcher points.

If you have 3 high points and 2 turrent points and 0 launcher points that means you can place a maximum of 2 turrets (miners count as turrents) no missile launchers and you will have 1 high point left of a secondary device like a warp jammer or other device that fits in High points.

So even though you have 3 high points you may still not be able to put in 3 turrets. BTW. Miners use much more CPU/Powercore than weapons do.

For now I am going with 2 lasers until I complete my newb missions. Is there any way to carry a miner in your hold and then switch it in space or do you have to dock to switch it?

Also, eventually I plan on coming to your section of space, from Brutor space I am in Ammold I believe. Anyone know if the journey will be particularly hazardous or how long it will take for a newb frigate?

you should be able to carry a mining gun in your hold or at least if you have the slot equip it unpowered on your rig. You do need to dock to switch it but at least you don't have to fly back 8 systems to some hanger you left them in...

go to the starmap, search on duripant, add waypoint, and then analyze the dots on the left side of the map that pop up. The color coded dots will tell you how "dangerous" your trip to duripant (we have an office there) will be. Blue and green is good, yellow is okay, orange and red are potentially bad. Your route will flash on the map to show you the systems you will be travelling through. go to the display settings tab in your world map control panel (where you searched for duripant) and scroll down under the stars sub tab to stats. Select the "escape pods or ships destroyed in last hour button. If you see a big red blob or a big yellow blob in any of the systems you are travelling through you may want to wait before going through that system.
