Yak, as a game dev type I would really look into the game. Try it for 14days. It does have a learning curve but after 3 days I knew what to do and where to do it. The good part of that is while I know what to do now I really have no idea what to do for endgame. This makes the game very interesting, Im constantly uncovering the many layers of this game.

As for your machine. Remember, there is no 'cities' or even toons so half the server load is gone right there. You should be fine.

Too funny. Having recently returned from Vegas...methinks this is a dev team worth visiting. I'm in for '06 even if I'm not playing the game.

As the saying goes...what happens in Reykjavik STAYS in Reykjavik.

BTW I've trained Corp Management, so I could start up a Corp if we want. The start up fee is about 1.6m ISK. When the server is back up I'll also finish off Ethnic Relations for Corp members of other races.

Sounds good Obo! I can't wait to get back in tomorrow when the servers come back up. I missed selecting anything to train before it went down. But since I haven't done more than the tutorial, I may just role a new one with the new atributes and bloodlines.

just before the servers when down I started an Alt to try out mining. Moniker is my main combat person and she is pretty far along. She can fly a Cruiser but needs the 6mil to buy the Carcarel ship.

Moge TiraTru is my Mining guy. I rolled him with Frigates IV so I am not trainig Command III and then will start on Industry skills tomorrow. Being on different accounts I can train them both at once. If I like the mining/trade skills I'll keep Moge on as a regular alt.

We should talk to Lazy Amy about forming a partnership with TCO.

A couple of questions.

Who is playing full accounts and who is playing trials?

What race and bloodlines have people selected?

Are there sufficient numbers in game that people are meeting up and grouping etc?

Where do I get hold of a trial from?

Is it worth setting up an EVE forum?

and finally, any chance someone can give a comprehensive start up guide for a new char?

I've downloaded the EVE client (took about 3 hours). I'm now waiting for the server to come up!

Downloading now. Will try to get in tonight.

Any hints on first steps? What cool things do you remember from starting? What experiences should I aim for? What is one thing that you wish you knew then that you know now?

server should be up in a few hours. For now just create your character so you always select the option that gives you a frigate skill. If done right you should get Frigate IV out of the game.

Do the tutorial. That is the biggest tip I can give. After that join the newbie chat channel. It is very helpful. That and the Corp channel. You will see a lot of questions asked and by default will then answer a lot of your questions.

---

Enough players: Haven't really grouped, you dont really group for a bit. Grouping is manditory for high lvl but lower lvls are about gaining skill over time and gaining money.

Accounts: I have 1 account and 1 trail. If all continues to go well Ill keep them both.

Eve forum: maybe, was wondering that myself. Could help with specific questions and such. Obo and I seem to play pretty regular.

Guide: there are online guides on eve-online.com and also the tutorial. Seriously, it takes 2 hours but is crazy informative. Dont skip it.

just dloaded the patch. I got in with Moniker but was very slow. When I tried to log in with Moge I just stalled on login. I think everyone is logging in right now, I'll wait a but then try again.

The new UI changes are kinda nice though.

I'm hoping to get in some serious EVE time this weekend. Just keep an eye open for Tetran. I think there's another Tetran (an imposter!) with a last name. That's not me. See you in space!

Well, I signed up and d'loaded the game the other day, but the servers came down for the patch about 3 minutes after I finished my Character Creation.

I won't have time to get back in until after the weekend. When I do I'll post my Character's name. Can't remember right now, but I think it's just GuiJan Itor.

I'm in and am on as Big Yak.

I rolled a frigate Level 4 (btw. It took me about 3 hours in game to see what that meant, and why), and am training up Startship Command now to get to Level 3.

I have a few questions:

1) What's the difference between Rank and Level?

For example, I'm "Caldar Frigate Rank (2)", and Level 4. It looks like there's 5 levels... after I train to that, am I Rank 3?

2) What doing the skills really help with, and is there a good central list of what they do? I've searched through some of the help stuff, but nothing too useful found yet. Is going Frigate and Command the best for beginning?

3) I'd really like to go science/engineering... but I would think starting this late in the game would not be worth it. I'm sure there's people so far beyond me that I'll never be on the forefront of building/designing new stuff.

4) On the tutorial... You're right, it's the best game tutoral I've ever seen. Very nice. I started on toon, and went 90% through it (to the part talking about the guilds). Then, I rolled a new character... is there a way to skip just to that part in the tutorial? Or, do I have to do the entire tutorial over?

5) Suggestions on what to do first once I get out? It's a huge universe... where sohould I go? Where are you guys hanging out?

Not sure. I do know that there are only 5 lvls per skill. There are usually advanced skills you can only get

If you left click on any skill of click the "i" button next to an item or skill on the market it will tell you what it does.

Also, if you click on "i" button on the market for say a Cruiser or Heavy Missle and then click Req Skills it will detail all the skills and subskills you need before you can use that item.

As far as what to train. Not really sure. Moge is a miner so for now he is training Learning IV, Instant Recall III and Anylitical mind III. Most of the primary mining skills are in the Industry tree and the primary stats for Industry ar Memory and Intelligence. See below or click here

for now I would just train basic skills for your core profession as well as Learning IV and the 2 or 3 primary attribute for your core profession. Doing this will greatly decrease your training time on those skills. This should take several days (don't forget to set something long to train over night - even if your not sure you need it. No since wiasting the time). By then you will have a greater uderstanding of the game and will know what to train next. Example: Mining Drones or Industrial Ships or Secure Containers.

Cant think like that. This game has tons of new people every day. Also, players playing for years are far out into Allaince space and probably work only for their Corp. Ships get blown up every day and need replacing. Someone better may be 10-20 jumps away while your may be only 2-3, where would you shop?

Not sure. Join the Rookie Help channel or post on the boards.

start with the Storyline quests. Given during the tutorial. Then just do random missions for money or mine. Every 16 mission I think you get a new storyline mission. Im told the storyline missions give good rewards.

Since most of us are difference races it may be a bit before most group up. But add us to your buddy liist and we can all chat while ingame.

Here's an amazing spreadsheet for tracking skill development/time/100 other things.

http://www.goi-eve.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=62

It also has (on the second tab) a list of all skills and exactly what they do in game.

It also calculates things like your ore yield, ice yields, and exact stats of every ship within the game.

I was making a Corp last night but my machine decided to crash, so I'll do it today.

At the moment I'm just mining away most of the day in the background while I do other things (code), working my way to a MkV Industrial, which looks like a good ship for me.
It may be over a month before I even think about the fighting side, but that pace suits me fine.

I'm in as Lirola. Started her last night and got her up to a Merlin and have 300k in the bank. I'm training the last frigate level but would like to open up other ships that would be good for mining.

I've started the Corp. Name is Avian Technology and Trade and the ticker is AVIA.

To join search for the Corp (in the Corp window, or via the Employment History on my details) and you should have an option to apply.

I'm in as Lirola. Started her last night and got her up to a Merlin and have 300k in the bank. I'm training the last frigate level but would like to open up other ships that would be good for mining.

Mining tip. It is stated above but here it is again 'cause it is a good tip.
But a frigate with a decent Cargo hold. get expanders on it. Gte 2 mining lasers - need to turrent mounts. Then get Secure Containers. Mine until cargo is full, jettison a secure container.

do this for 45 minutes. Return to Dock. Get in an Industrial ship, return to pick up your containers.

The Badge II is, from what Ive found, the best mining ship out there for low/mid lvl players. Great armor, decent speed and very good shield.

there is a Galantee frigate that has 320 cargo hold and a 20% mining bonus per lvl and -60% engery for mining lasers. Making this hands down the best mining frigate ingame.

Tomorrow I will start mining with Moge as he will by then have decent stats. I may even move Moniker into the same space and have her escort him around. Running two clients can be done with no problems.

I'm training up my Spaceship command skill to be able to pilot an industrial right now.
