Hey guys just wanted to let you know that I will only be able to play for a few more weeks before I ship to MCRD in San Diego. I hope this doesn't affect my membership...I have plans to start playing SWG when I return and finally get a character to level 60 on WoW. I also played a demo of Eerquest II the other night and that game looks really appealing. So I just wnt to give a heads up. I'll be gone for 13 weeks starting August 1st, and I plan to build a computer as soon as possible after graduation.

In case some of you are completely lost as to what I'm talking about, MCRD is the Marine Corp Recruiting Depot. August 1st - October 1st I'll be in boot camp getting my butt-kicked...but when I get back I'll be one of the most active members in Avian, you'll see.

So if there are any problems with my absence or if anyone has a any questions please ask. I will have access to the forums for the rest of my time but only via laptop. My gaming pc will be gone so my time on wow and such is limited.

Oh-Rah future devil-dog!
I'm a former Marine and went through MCRD in '92.

You're going at a perfect time. I went through July-Sept and the heat was murder - I was Hollywood (San Diego) as well. You shouldn't get many Black Flag days, which is a good and can also be a bad thing. Black Flag days can offer brief moments of day long rifle cleaning and 'field days'. These can be moments of calm in what is truly an insane experience.

tip to life: If possible volunteer to be Whiskey Locker Private. Best job in basic!

Oh and know your General Rules backwards and forwards BEFORE YOU GO!

Ahh, the memories!

Air Force was similar though a bit less intense (though the Marines call it chAir Force, and will tell you it's much MUCH less intense).

I remember getting back from a 10 mile hike carrying 60 pounds of gear, then someone getting busted for having an MRE wrapper still in their bag (rather than thrown away in the trash as was ordered). 200 pushups for everyone with gear on.... and after pushup #1 a black flag day was announced (no exercise allowed). Such sweet, sweet music that was. I always look back at Black Flag days with such find rememberence.

Anyway, keep your sense of humor, and remember this is how they make warriors - push you until you mentally break, then push you some more. If it's getting too hard, just think about the great stories you'll get to tell your grandkids in 30 years.

Hey im psyched that there are former military personell in this community! I am glad to have joined the marines, but I'm so full of myself that I have some kind of vendetta against anyone who served in a different branch. I really appreciate the advice. I'm not worried about making it through basic training...not that I think it will be easy, or that it won't change me...but I want it more than anything...the change is why I joined. So hey, thanks for the support, thats running on short supply lately (my friends) and I needed some. So I take it me being gone wont be a problem? Ha, nobody really answered my question.

What's the sound of a devil-dog!?

We have no rules on required activity or folks going absent.

So no, its not a major problem, we will be here when you have time to come back around.

We have had members go to bootcamp, long deployments and even one who when to Iraq. Just pop back in every now and then and give us updates.

What is your MOS?

The Corps was an amazing time for me. I went into boot 149 pounds and left 162 pounds and lost body fat! When I got out my own mother walked right past me at the airport.

Boot sucks. No question. No debate but I wouldn't have done it any other way.

...oh and the reason why you feel a grudge against anyone else is becuase you will soon be better than anyone one. Just remember, Navy Corpsman, all pilots and SEALs always get a nod of respect from Marines. Everyone else can sit on it!

That was my guess too, but I was dreaming it was because the bugs were too ferocious and would eat you alive.
