The new incarnation of Tabula Rasa has been announced. For those who don't know the devs went back and made some apparently major design changes, most think due to the WoW-effect.

It seems to be a FPS MMO.

Quote:
Features
  • Go to the frontlines of a futuristic war in a massively multiplayer war game that combines the character growth of an RPG with the action of a shooter.
  • Players will participate in large scale battles with NPC allies against an intelligent enemy known as The Bane for control of entire planets.
  • Players will go behind enemy lines in missions that directly impact the war effort, either solo or with teammates.
  • Rich storyline and fictional universe features Richard Garriott’s signature creative vision and attention to detail.
  • It’s not all guts and guns; a mysterious power known commonly as “Logos,” allows players to harness the very fabric of the cosmos to offer rebel forces an advantage against an overwhelming foe.
  • Simplified game interface is complimented by built-in voice chat technology to create a seamless cooperative gaming experience.

Benefits
  • Role-playing game fans will enjoy a game design that focuses more on depth than complexity, with an immersive story and rich character growth driven by player choices.
  • First person shooter fans who crave a richer gaming experience will appreciate a massively multiplayer game that is reactive to player choices and allows for a broad range of character movement. They’ll also find FPS standards including explosions, vehicles and big guns.
  • Massively multiplayer online game fans will enjoy being able to garner rare collectibles and inventory, a large community to interact with, and frequently updated content to both the game and the storyline.

There are some nice videos of it at the site. http://www.playtr.com/media/videos.html

i dunno from the movie I just watched the FPS aspect is not as great as it may seem...Not much movement from the shooting troops and in most FPS...standing still=death

so on that aspect of it im not totally impressed... Honestly the closest thing to an RPG+FPS is planetside but really all that is..is a certification system...add side quests and AI to that game and maybe...

Best game review ever!
Video review, slightly NSFW due to language.

I had a chance to watch this over the weekend and thought it was hilarious. I bookmarked his site and watched some of the other videos, all of them are equally funny. He made some good points about Halo 3. I can't wait to watch the rest.

wow, best review ever

they sort of confirm the grind in the "features"... "rare collectibles" if not to grind for them, how will they be kept rare?

and "logos" magic in a fps... doesnt sound like something most fps gamers will enjoy

So G4 just did a pretty good review of this game and I've read a few others online. It seems to be getting a roughly '4/5' or '8/10' in most reviews.

The G4 TV review got me interested. I'm not sure I want to spend $40 on a new game right now but I'm considering giving this a chance.

well crap!
I figured I woud try the game so I ran out and got a copy. Only when I got home I found the FREE download and three day trial! Son of a Bitch!

Oh well.

I'm having an ATI graphics card issue so I can barely play the damn game AND there is NO OFFICAL forum for the game. WTH is that! You have to go a fan sites to make posts and read up. Seriously, WTH!

This is just lame, stupid and annoying.

The real bitch is, I really kind like the game. I'm still really pissed about finding the free download thing though. Had I seen that I would not have spent $40 on this AND my graphics are all screwy. With no official forum, finding a fix or even seeing IF there is one is damn near impossible.
What kind of low rent operation does not have a forum?

/rant off

don't you need to purchase after the 3day trial to actually own the product?

and yea NCsoft tends not to have official forums (Guild Wars does not either although there are useful fan forums for that game)

yeah, but really I just wanted to 'check the game out' a three day trial probably would have been fine for me.

Due to graphics card incompatibilities/bugs/issues I have played the game for 4 hours, turned it off and will probably never play it again.

It was decent but there are so many basic user interface issues that are so very lacking I seriously doubt I'll ever play this game again.

done with Tabula Rasa...and feel pretty burned over the whole experience.

Fuck. That. Game.

Played the 3 day trial and it is a decent game but it feels more like a planetside with quests to me for some reason. I couldnt get into the story much at all (in fact I stopped reading the quests after a few levels). I liked the graphics though they were pretty good (at least on my system). The lack of documentation was a royal pain, looked at doing a little crafting but I ended up just selling all the schematics I had found and getting a bigger gun. Like SWG you have to use a crafting station to craft and drop the schematic and parts into it then craft it, but thats about as far as I got with it. It was very redundant to me, I got up to level 7 twice and killed only 5 different mobs the whole time. I though the nesingway (sp?) quests in WoW were a pain because of having to kill so many mobs, at a very early level I got a quest to kill 200 thrax, at least they spawned quickly. The chat system looks like it is similar to WoW but I never used it or even looked at it, more than a couple times and those times it was filled with money seller spam.

All in all had fun for awhile, then just lost interest

From the review I read, apparently one of the best points was the battles for areas. Areas/bases/towns and change hands between the factions leading to some strategic battles.

ehh installed the trial but the server just seems laggy and impossible to play due to minutes of lag between hitting "t" at an npc to talk to and them actually responding... Dunno if its my connection at schoool (although everything else plays fine) or what but its unplayable for me

I didn't care for the beta. They just can't seem to make an mmo with guns that feels 'right' to me. The only gun-combat system I've liked was the KoTR system, but that is hardly suitable for an mmo. prove me wrong bioware, prove me wrong 8)
