The Mist

The Mist opened this last weekend and being that my wife and I both had read the "novella" decided to head out to our local movie theater. First off, I must say when you compare the movie to the novella the movie is MUCH better. This is perhaps the best adaptation to a Stephen King writing that's been produced... Christine was close, this was dead on.

You may be wondering why I say it's better than the novella... for one, it had an ending. The novella had one of those endings that just sort of stopped. You were left wanting to know more. In the movie, it had an ending and a very good one and it didn't pull any punches. I would say the whole movie didn't pull any punches. The tension was built to such an extreme that people even clapped during one scene after an atangonist was killed. That doesn't seem to happen much in movies now-a-days.

The storyline centers around a mysterious "mist" that rolls out of the mountains near a small Washington town. The Protagonist and his son are in a grocery store when the mist hits the town and the shit hits the fan. The story is a great character study of dense people doing dumb things during an intense situation and how some people rise to the top.

I highly recommend it.

Glad it was good! Bill and I have read it too and we're looking forward to seeing it! Thanks for the mini review! :)

Stealing your thread for a moment...
We were going to see the Mist this weekend but randomly ended up at the movies and it wasn't playing for another hour so we saw Bee Movie instead. I wasn't expecting a whole lot and had actually gotten sick of all the hype. But Bill really wanted to see it, and he loved it.

I would say it was OK.. far from great but not bad either. If you have children, then go it. It doesn't have as much "older humor" as Shrek and the like does, although there is some. But overall I think it will appeal to chilren much more, since they can understand it a little better.

(I won't bother with a summary since I am sure you've all seen the trailer a thousand times.)

There are a lot of big names voicing all the main characters, my favorite being John Goodman! And if you were a fan of Seinfeld you'll hear a few familar voices as well.

Of course, expect a lot of children if you go! There were tons of little ones when we went but once the movie started they were very well behaved, it kept their attention for the whole 90 mins.. which is usually a good sign! :D
