It's fantastic to hear from you. Wow, so much has changed... it's hard to know where to begin. How about for starters, the moment you get in-game you hop a ride to Talus and take the shuttle to Avian City. :D Yep, we're located on Talus now, and it's a massively long story as to why, but I think we have a fantastic city and I'm really pleased with its development.

As for the naysayers about the game, I just accept that the game isn't for everyone and have my own fun. I can tell you honestly that I have a lot of fun playing and I look forward to playing. Cities, mounts, and vehicles (vehicles in particular) really juiced things up for me.

I really hope the job situation works out soon. It'd be great to finally see you back in-game, but we'll be here whenever you're able. Oh, and consider me supporting and hoping you'll choose to re-apply.

What, too subtle?

It would be awesome to see you back around the forums Angus! I've had to resort to representing you in an RP story to get by. ;)
I'm still not in game, but when I get there, it would be great to hang out with you.

How's it going Angus?

Long time no speak. Sorry to hear about the computer. Make sure you look me up when you're back in-game. :)

Glad to hear from you! I tell ya, what has made a big difference to me is vehicles. I don't know .. for some reason .. just being able to get from point A to point B a little quicker just makes me feel like I'm actualy doing something in my couple hours of playing time each night. I think I used to get really frustrated .. feeling like I did nothing by walk/run/walk all the time .. now .. it's not like that. Game is much more fun!

Wow! That's too cool. Are you going to be able to upgrade to a starport in the future? What would it take for that?

Yeah, vehicles sound like a nice addition to the game. While I used to love exploring the planets by foot, at times it got extremely irritating trying to go from point A to point B just to get jumped in between by some big nasty critter that spawned on top of me and ate my spleen before I even knew it was there.

After talking to my wife, we are going to try to get a new video card for my laptop and hope that solves the problem I had with it. It's what I used to play the game on. While I would love to get a new comp, it's going to be a while before I can afford to do that. So, if everything goes as planned, I should be back in-game next month. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I'm not sure what Avian's policy is now for people reapplying. Should I go ahead and put an application in now, or wait until I am back in the game?

Anyway, it's great to hear from you guys!

I say go ahead and re-apply. I look forward to seeing another old timer back here. :D

Hopefully, the vidcard will work and we'll see you back in action.

No reason why you shouldn't apply now, being ingame isn't a requirement to be part of avian. (Luckily for some  ) Given the snail pace of the BoD, (nothing new here) you might as well take some steps in advance.

Dev intervention. Currently only Dev cities get to have starports.

That does not exist in game yet. Maybe it will be added, but I am not sure if the devs want to keep us somehow tied to the Dev cities for one reason or another.

What I love about the vehicles is we now have a choice. If you need to travel from A to B in a hurry you can take a shuttle, or take a vehicle. However for a more vulnerable and intense experience you can trek out on foot.... I ran around on foot the other day and it surprisingly felt great. Now that I am not forced to Flintstone-it around, I find that foot travel has its place in the game. I guess it is all about providing options… and vehicle traffic is an option that has made SWG much better.

*removes his dirty, nasty, combat-boot sock and wipes the thread with it*

SWG still stinks. MEO will rock.

*leaves the sock amidst the fools in this thread*

I'm going to note Orbies comment and when MEO comes out worse and more bugged than SWG I'm gonna make him EAT IT!

the problem with MEO is i don't think they are going to do a great job incorporating the storyline and all that into the game..also talk of

Quote:
You have probably read about our private encounter technology here on this site. It was designed around the idea of helping to mitigate camping, but has evolved into a very powerful storytelling tool. Now, to be clear, the overwhelming majority of your game adventuring will take place in public spaces, but we can use private encounters to not only multiply encounter instances, but to give you the power to save the princess! This was a great epiphany; it really opened up a lot of possibilities. We can send you to, say, clear out a mine of a goblin infestation and when you go back later, there are Dwarves down there mining, all because you made it possible. It really helped put the focus of the game on the individual character without devaluing the massively in massively multiplayer.

means some players will see dwarves working but others will see some orcs? I mean come-on that ruins the whole grouping thing..and cohesion

in anycase I love LOTR so probably will try MEO but I have no doubt it will be buggy as SWG...and unless we all decide to jump on the MEO bandwagon..i'll probably stick with SWG...as the Devs seem to be moving in the right direction..no matter how slow they are moving

Haha Orbie makes me laugh when you see MEO devs think MMORPG future are Not-Massive Multiplayer RPGs.

Nope, later on they admit they have no idea how they iwll habdle it in groups and stuff. To mwe this looks like a half-thought out idea that they will have to ditch or at least severely reduce in impact because they can't get it toworking right.

has seen this lots of time during his stint in game development...

Have you ever seen Turbine do that though, Edward? MEO isn't going to get its funding cut and cancelled (Microsoft did this to Mythica the other day) - they will have awsome customer service, as always, unlike every Sony Online Entertainment game - it won't fail, it actually has content, unlike SWG, I could go on and on. The fact that I run the biggest MEO fansite puts me in direct communication with the devs - so I know some secrets that no one else does - none of which hint at the fears or suspicions listed above.

Nope, but that is because I have not followed any Turbine game closely before release.

The games I have seen after release were less than compelling, though.

What games does Turbine have under their belt?

Well said. Knowing that Turbine was responsible for AC2, my confidence in MEO has weakened.

They're developing both Middle-Earth Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online simultaneously, so you've got a choice between beauty and bile. ;) This is rather ironic, in a good way, as we rationalize that any D&D crap that they want to put in an MMO will go in D&DO where it belongs, which is where MERP (Middle-earth RPG) failed.

Asheron's Call did have a lot of good points to it, and while it wasn't advanced (i'm talking about AC1), overall, it leaves SWG and most current MMOs in the dust (overall).

You know what the worst part about all this is?

It's going to take me months to surpass Orbital's post count :P.

All I can say is that time will tell and every person involved during the intial phases of a project tend to have a biased view. We'll have to see how it all plays out. And every MMO that comes out would be wise to not make the same mistakes that previously released MMO's make.

Plus SWG will get better over time as will any game that plans to make a profit.

Three exploits for the rebels in Anchorhead,
Seven for the imperials in Bestine town,
Nine players reporting them, wishing them to drop dead,
One GM thinks "I'll handle this on my own."
One exploit used by all, but Sony will find them
Then they will ban them all, and in the darkness bind them
In the land of the real life, where the boredom lies.
