Got my new Athlon XP 3200+ (barton) cpu today. But in the process of updating my BIOS before installing the new chip the PC froze and corrupted the BIOS. Found out later it was a screwed up floppy disk.
Anyway, I can't boot up my game box at the moment, so I may be out of game for a while.

I say may as I am about to do something very nasty. I could be back in tonight. :)

Now.... where's that hammer?

Works for me. Not so sure about the hammer part, but whatever does the trick.

I doubt any technology issues will keep you out too long. :D

both, I would think.... I have found violence and computers often mix well until you break something....

As one computer freak to another, good luck and hope you get it working there....

Got it sorted, almost.

Hammer was for removing the BIOS chip. :)
Since my game box's BIOS was corrupt, I had to find a way to reprogram it, so I decided to do a hot-swap with a BIOS chip from one of my other machines. This involves taking out the bad chip, boot up the good machine and then pop out its BIOS chip and replace it with the bad chip and then reprogram the bad chip with the correct BIOS. Yes, this is all while the machine is turned on. Potentially very stupid, blah blah blah :).

But since the two motherboards are different and use different versions of BIOS, awdflash didn't want to force the update, no matter how many different ways I tried to convince it. Headaches and stress at 2am!. If I didn't get this to work, I'd have to send away for a new chip.
So I had to track down copy of aflash that would force it, which I eventually found.

Anyway, bad chip is now good and I've installed the new cpu. By 4am there's just a few problems with windows not being too happy with the hardware being changed, but that's another nights work. :)

that is indeed some serious nutty work you managed there Obo.

I would never have thought you could overwrite one BIOS with another.

Were they even the same manufacturer of the board ?

Just intrested - cos i love to hack, bend, break and mangle my own pc's

however this toime my pc is about to have some serious love lavished on it - just been and ordered a Radeon 9800XT for it and another 512mb to bring it up to 1Gb
