agree w/ Cyrus
Plan and simple loot is fun. It drives us to explore NPC missions and makes completing them fun. I have had a great time the past few days doing theme parks and NPC missions for the Loot. I get excited when I know I am about to get something cool.

If SWG can continue to improve the loot I will remain faithfull. Also, the New Jedi mission quests (oh please oh please) will hopefully be cool.

Have you seen this nice series of Articles about WoW?

Some new Screenies for WoW are up now.

I liked this one which should be captioned, "Hi, my name is Firebrand and I'm an orcaholic."

Very nice.

In looking at that pic, it occured to me that Orcs must be quite tense. You can see the knotted muscles in their shoulders, and none of them can relax and lean back in their chair.

What're you starting guys going to be?

I'm thinking of the these:

Dwarf or Night Elf Rogue
Gnome Mage
Undead Priest
Human Paladin

I'm going to be a wookiee paladin! oh...wait...

Seriously, I've played a number of not-quite-full-contact-combat characters lately so I'm thinking warrior or paladin. Likely human. I'll know a lot better after playing ... erm ... beta.

I'll be a Dwarf at least. Haven't decided beyond that, except I am not going to be a priest.

Dwarven Hunter was my first idea.

Maybe an Undead Priest as a Horde character...

Interview with Katricia, Community Manager wrote:
Blizzard humor is spread all throughout World of Warcraft. One recently added touch is the cowbell - an accessory for Taurens only, of course.

For this reason alone playing a Tauren will rock! :P

Interview with Katricia, Community Manager wrote:
When a player dies, he or she will appear at a nearby bindstone as a ghost. While in ghost form, a player can neither be seen by nor see the living. The player must now travel back to where his or her corpse is to become corporeal again. Finding one's corpse will be easy, since players will have a minimap marker that clearly shows the way. Because the player's ghost won't be detectable by monsters, the journey back to the corpse won't be dangerous. After getting close enough to where the corpse is, the player will receive the option to be resurrected a small-but-safe distance from where he or she originally fell (to avoid any nearby monsters). Once the player becomes corporeal again, there are no further penalties for death.

Should a player choose not to retrieve his or her corpse, a Spirit Healer (ghostly NPC) will be available at the bindstone to resurrect the player there for a modest loss in experience.

Of course we are still exploring the death-penalty system and will be flexible in keeping our options open for future changes.

I've only played UO, EQ and SWG. Is Blizzard's implementation of corpse-running (if you even choose to do it) unique? It seems very smart and 'common-sensical.' And yeah, common-sensical is a word. :P

Interview with Katricia, Community Manager wrote:
Our forums are being redesigned and will not be a part of Battle.net once World of Warcraft goes live. The new forum avatars will be each player's character portrait, with the ability to click through to the paper doll.

 :D Cool!

In the game Warcraft 3/Frozen Throne Expansion Pack, that I play there are some bindstones on certain maps in singular player. It's amazing how similiar World of Warcraft will be to Warcraft 3, Warcraft 2, and Warcraft 1. Well all those games are the same...the same warcraft universe...so everything should be the same...I gues what I'm trying to say is that It amazes me how much I know about the game without even playing it...and all thats because of playing the previous warcraft games lol.

I think that one aspect of WoW that's really going to contribute to it's success. SWG had a huuuge fanbase going for it just because of the movies and previous games. Translating all that experience into a game has clearly proven more of a challenge than the devs or SOE originally anticipated. I suspect WoW will not be hampered as much in making that transition since the background story and even some of the mechanics (Siric mentioned the bindstones) are coming from another game, not a movie or book.

Hrm...awful deep thoughts for a Sun morn :P

I'll surely start with a NE Druid. BTW it would be cool if all the Avian had at least a character in the Alliance (most popular so far here) because it seems communication between Alliance and Horde players will be nearly impossible.

Just one requirement to communicate between Horde and Alliance:

FAQ wrote:
Will players have the ability to change factions (for example: from Horde to Alliance)?
No, but it will be possible to learn languages and communicate with players of the opposing faction.

But if you meant to actually play together, then yes, that will be quite difficult.

FAQ wrote:
Will players be able to trade with members of the opposite faction?
Currently no, but this is still being decided and will be watched closely in beta.

Will Horde and Alliance characters have the ability to gain faction points thus allowing them to utilize each other's cities?
That's currently not the plan.

Plus, you'll have to gain at least a few levels in order to have much of a chance venturing out of your starting area.

Came across some detailed info on WoW and player death!

Quote:
If people choose to have their corpse's revived at the bind stone for the experience fee, is it possible to level down if you have just recently leveled up like in FFXI?
No, you cannot lose your level. However, your experience in a level can go below zero. So, if you have experience below zero, it will take you longer to gain your next level.

Nice! I don't know how many times I leveled back and forth in EQ...

Also thought this was particularly cool!

Quote:
Can ghosts see other ghosts?
Yes. Players may also find ways in the game to see ghosts. Lastly, we would like to eventually add ghostly NPCs that may have quests for ghosts or world lore

The whole thing may be read by clicking here.

Another little bit from the updated FAQ:

Quote:
How can you hook up with your friends of different races early in the game?
For some races it's easier than others. For example, the humans and dwarves will have an easy transit between their two cities, while the night elves will find it harder to meet with their Alliance brethren early in the game as they are off in a distant land.

Yes, from what I read there will be a steam powered railway line running between Stormwind and Khaz Modan. Can't wait to see that.

This pic shows evidence of multiple chat 'channels.' It will be interesting to see some detail on how they work (are sales offered there world wide, zone wide?).

Realms Info
Quote:
Will there be player-vs.-player servers where players will be able to fight other players from anywhere in the world?
We will likely have special rules servers, but we haven't made any final decisions on this yet. Watch the web site for any new information.

Will there be Realms specifically for role-playing?
We want to ensure that role-players will have the best experience possible in World of Warcraft. This may include having specific role-playing servers, (and probably will) but that decision has not yet been reached.

Will players be able to have characters on more than one server without paying additional fees?
There will be one monthly fee to play World of Warcraft and it will apply to all of your characters, regardless of what server they are on.

Do you think they are listening to people or finally giving us order which pie we want a slice of?

Who's up for hardcore?
Quote:
Will there be a Hardcore Mode?
No. Hardcore Mode is a feature in the Diablo universe.

Man the UI looks sweet. That's a good idea to have the avatars show up when targeting or grouping.

I think you can see the rail tracks in the background in this shot. It could be a road, but the cross markings are pretty regular for it to be anything but rail tracks.

I have been there in Alpha and for what I know there is no Trains in this game. This might have changed, but I doubt it.

Hey, could find another mention of it here

It is supposed to have been mentioned at GenCon. Sadly the article where that info was confirmed has dropped from the Blizzard forum, as it was back in December.

Anyway, it supposedly runs from Ironforge to Stormwind.

New screenshots of WoW released on the official site and mirrored on Gamespot and IGNPC.

I love the look of that fortification!

The gnomes seem a bit cartoonish...

Guess I'll have to be a Dwarf or Human Mage (unless we go to the other side in which case I think Shaman or Undead Mage)

This sure look interesting :!:
Count me in.

I usually go for fast, distance attackers like I expect the NE Hunter to be....but with those ears I think I will have to reconsider :P
Leaning towards Female Paladin with a huge Two Handed axe and shining armour or a Male pale Undead Mage.

Looking forward to see more of WoW.

Yay! Fishing!

Katricia wrote:
Fishing is but one of the great tradeskills within World of Warcraft. It’s also the first mini-game that’s been incorporated into the world. This game takes a keen eye and a quick hand to snag the dunking bobber and reel in your catch of the day.

There are special poles and lures that will increase your chances at pulling in the big one .. and don’t forget to take a picture, you wouldn’t want folk thinkin' it a tall tale when you exclaim, “That Slitherskin Mackerel was 30 lbs!”

With so many things to snag on your line, who wouldn’t want to fish the day away .. especially on a fine day with the birds chirpin' and the water so calm and tranquil.

Why just the other day I snagged a lost pirate treasure! It was I tell you .. I had to get my husband to pick the lock and open it’s contents! I can’t tell you what was inside .. that would be going too far as I’m sure you be knowin' that if any of them there pirates still walk this earth they would be a comein' for me!

Oh, I’ve caught many a fish too and other secret items like messages in bottles, tales of folk in trouble! I helped them best I could I tell you and with rewards gained in the helping!

While fishing in the ocean I gathered such a feast; rockscale cod and slitherskin mackerel were plentiful and they cooked up just fine. Later that same week, I was 'round a pond and decided to try my luck. Oh that bristle whiskered catfish was a culinary delight once I finished braisin' it in some light butter and I found me a lovely pair of magical boots too!

Ahh fishing, good times to be had by all.

Way more info in this interview with Katricia and Tigole:

Quote:
Each of our instanced dungeons is tailor made for one level range. Early on we discussed re-using dungeons and swapping out creatures according to level range but we decided it would be more fulfilling for players to have new dungeons to experience rather than constantly returning to the same ones. Each of our instanced dungeons has a totally unique story and theme behind it. They are scattered throughout the world, on all continents and across all level ranges.

I think our four *newbie* dungeons stand as a good example of the variety of locations players will have to fight in. On Azeroth, the first dungeon experience will be the Deadmines, a full blown mining operation hidden within the hills of Westfall. In Lordaeron, players will adventure in Shadowfang Keep, a castle overrun with Worgen which were summoned by a deranged Archmage. On Kalimdor, Night Elf players will adventure in Blackfathom Deeps, an old sea temple infested with cultists and naga. Also on Kalimdor, Horde players will adventure in the Wailing Caverns, a lush, overgrown cave which is being terrorized by reptilian creatures summoned from a sleeping Druid's nightmares. These four examples are just the tip of the iceberg. These are the first four dungeons players will see. It only gets bigger and better from there =)

Lokks like the world will really be chock-full of content for all level ranges.

Don't forget to check out the new additions to the Town Hall: Air Transportation, complete with a little movie!

Does it say anywhere how long the flights take? And will you see a bunch of the them flying when you are, carrying others? Or will it just show yours even though you and a friend might have left around the same time?
