PC Gamer recommends:
2Ghz CPU
512 MB ram
Radeon 9800
5-channel audio

Lowest supported GPU is a Geforce 4 MX (worse than Geforce 3)
Supported cards:
GF 4 MX
GF 3
GF 4
GF FX (and higher)
ATI 8500s, 9000s and higher
------

hmm time to re-evaluate my rig...

I have:

1. No Job.
2. No Money
3. Not a good enough computer to play Doom 3.
4. Oh well.

-Rocklar, I heard those shots are fake; some guy made his own doom 3 cd's, and disks.

yep, if you look at the stacks of disks, you can easily see the repeated images used there. (the stacks are based on the same image)

I'm waiting for HL2 also.. but I've been thinking about Doom 3 also. Why are they charging 55 bucks on the online game stores? Is it because it is a "high demand" game they think everyone will just have to buy?

$55! That's US$. Now way I'm gonna pay that converted to Canadian for Doom 3. I'll hang on and play JtLS til HL2 if that's the case.

Any one know why it is that high? If it is because it is a high demand game like I'm guessing... HL2 is going to cost at least as much or more . :(

HL2 will be 50. It will probably, however, be as fun as two games. So its like $50 is 50% off, in a manner of speaking.

I should go into sales.

Well, it will be two games. Counter-Strike Source (CS 2) will be shipping with HL2. Oh, and it's going to own... hard.

I had heard that Counter Strike Source is NOT the same thing as cs 2. Its just cs redone with the HL 2 source code. They are separately working on counter-strike 2.

Hmm, yeah you're right. CS:S and CS:2 are two different things. I just tend to look at CS:S like that because a) we're on 1.6 right now and b) it looks so tasty. But it also reminds me, HL2 is gonna ship with the original on the new engine. mmm mmm good.

And... umm... Doom 3 is gonna make me poop my pants and have nightmares, in that order.

Report of system requirements are up on Gamespot:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/07/20 ... 03036.html

Quote:
An Nvidia GeForce 3 graphics card or ATI Technologies 8500: Column author Dwight Silverman says that given the game's demanding visuals, serious gamers should splurge for a GPU from Nvidia's GeForce FX or 6800 line or ATI's Radeon 9800 or X800 series. He says more frugal PC owners can make do with a GeForce 5900XT or a Radeon 9600XT.

A 1.5-gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 chip or AMD Athlon 1500: Though these will run the game, Silverman suggests a 2GHz Pentium or equivalent, with the "ideal" processor being 3 GHz or over.

384MB of memory: Again, Silverman stresses that this is a minimum requirement, and he recommends 512MB at least, with 1GB preferred.

Two GB of hard drive space:. Four GB is suggested if your PC is running low on free space.

Not to bad but.. I'm betting even with the minimum the game won't perform to great.

Half life 2 is going to be an even bigger rip.

They are planning on having 3 versions

lite with no multiplayer at all
normal with multiplayer
deluxe with 'extra jazz'

they are even planning on charging a subscription to use Steam(ing pile of $H"t) the only way you can play online....aieeeeee

so doom 3 for me baby!

Arg! I heard some halflife plyers talking about how going to Steam full time was going to be crud. I know that it didn't always work the way it should, so I thought that was why they were so upset. I didn't know with HL2 it might cost money to use too.

Yes.

*trying to contain myself*

YES!

It is so AWESOME! So good looking and playing, very very scary and atmospheric, and somehow similar to Doom2, still.

I could talk about the game for ever. Its an awesome package of pure gaming heaven. Please get it if you can run it (and trust me my fast comp is straining under the pressure even on med settings).

For those of you playing, you may want to try this tweak. It was mentioned on <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> and sounds like it really helped.

Excerpt 1 from thread:
Quote:
I dunno if it's just me, but I noticed this trick beefed up my DOOM3 performance by a lot.

Anyhoo:

In your DOOM 3 directory, find "DoomConfig.cfg" (x:\Program Files\Doom 3\base). Open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad.

Find the line:

seta image_cacheMegs "32"

I changed 32 to 96.

I got a nice boost in performance. I dunno if the tweak worked or not (maybe my machine did something wierd, have no clue), so I'm just seeing if this works for others as well, or if a different setting works better than others.

Excerpt 2 from thread:
Quote:
In Reply To #1
I'm gonna give this a try and set it to 128, seeing how i have over a gig of ram. I'll post results in a half hour or so

[added Aug 2 2004 11:23PM]

In Reply To #6
After setting it to 128 the frame rate went up a LOT... I can even run it on the high settings now... I'm going to increase it to 256 and play some more. I'll update w/ problems if they arise.

[added Aug 2 2004 11:39PM]

In Reply To #6
256 was an even bigger boost. the game is running real good now. I'm gonna up the ante a bit more and try it at 384.

[added Aug 2 2004 11:51PM]

In Reply To #6
I got brave and set it to 512mb... I dont think there were any huge frame increases... but a small amount. I don't think i'll go any further unless i get feedback from others who have tried it.
