Mant, buddy, you gotta quit doing this. You're personally responsible for the continuation of some of these companies. lol

I am rather mild on WoW right now...

Warning: The following post is rated PG-13, and may contain content not suitable for children. Parental discretion is advised.

Remember the following:

Sony: Kick ass Graphics, shitty gameplay, lots of excuses from the devlopers on things that should've been in the game at release, but got delayed for 1-2 years afterwards.

Blizzard: It's reputation speaks for itself. Blizzard is great. They take the TIME, and the money, to make a really GREAT game. They have long betas for their games to ensure that every aspect of the game is perfect. They don't release a game until they have a MINIMUM of bugs. The fan base wanting the game to come out earlier doesn't have an affect on them. They release their games when they are ready. As for Sony, in my opinion, everything is rushed, and not top quality, and their customer service still sucks despite of what many people may think or have heard or witnissed.

Now keep in mind those are just my opinions.

The bottom line for me is this: Sony has ALOT to proove to me before I buy Everquest 2. If I can expect all the delays and let downs that Star Wars Galaxies has had, then forget it. I'm allready fed up with Sony as it is, and I do plan on playing World of Warcraft. Blizzard is no digital jesus (Much thanks to my brother for conjuring up that one), but I consider it to be pretty much ub3r.

Yes, everquest 2 has gorgeous graphics, and every character in the game talks, BUT, how will everything else fair? Will its gameplay be great? Will it have good content? Will its crafting system be good? Will combat be fun? Will there be lots of bugs, and non-functioning things like Everquest and SWG had when they first when they came out? Will it become boring after 6 months? These are questions that only time will tell.

Yes, no game is perfect at release, but I've lost all respect for Sony Online Entertainment.

Thank you for reading, and have a nice day! :D

p.s. I've seen many many, and many Everquest 2 trailers, and gameplay movies. The game does indeed look good, but we shall see.

SOE: Everquest - Biggest and most successful western MMO EVER !

Blizzard: Some really nice little one player games...

Now tell me who has the more impressive pedigree?

Right.

At one time you could say that FORD was the best darn car company... That model T was the bomb wasn’t it. However I can tell you first hand that the 1993 Ford Probe is a piece of shit. Just cause they were hot when things first come out, does not mean will be king of the mountain by default when new guys come to town.

Really if SWG has taught me anything, it is this: No amount of hype, no amount of pedigree, no amount of former fame has any weight when it comes to online gaming. The gold product is the only thing that matters.

Can SOE hit another one out the park with EQ2? I think they can, the brand is already established. But I will never bet on another SOE product again. They are too good at screwing up good sure things.

It is a company known for quality vs. a company known for striking online-gaming oil. From what SOE has done with SWG, I can not say they are out of the one hit wonder ball park. I must say however, I have my doubts about Blizzard. Their old games were genius, but I have not been overly impressed with their newer titles.

For me, only time will tell, well time and first hand reports from my friends here in Avian.

Well, to each their own. I gues it comes down to, you like what you like and thats that. :)

p.s. If Everquest 2 has an open beta, you'll probably see a Locke or Siric Trinmin running around, hehe.

Ahhh a debate i just cant avoid.

I agree with Cyrus 100% but then again i'm a sucker, and like Manti a hopless game addict. So I'll probably sign up for at least a month.

But right now SOE have no reputation for me, and at the end of the day i dont get excited about a game unless i'm actually playing it. Thanks for making me bitter SOE....

I'll throw my 2 credits in as well.

You would think SOE would put it all together sooner or later (or is it their plan to push some of the development phase into the live version...could keep people on for just a bit longer?)

I've been trying to determine which game is next for me EQ2 or WOW. CoH will lose it's luster for me by the time either game comes out (and probably sooner) as I want a game that is more multi dimensional (still it has it's fun points and what it does it does really well). I just want something more complicated and perhaps phat lewt is a part of that /shrug.

At this point either game can work for and I intend to try out both. Blizzard has always put out a finished product and they keep adding to it. I would like to see wha tthey do with an a game that receives steady income. Diablo 2 they did a remarkable job considering Battle.net was essentially free (though Version 1.10 for D2 took close to 2 years to release and I had fallen off the radar by then...still for $45/50 it's probably been the best money to fun ratio that I have ever expereinced in a game.)

My final comment on the matter..

Battle.net = kiddie sandbox

MMORPG = The beach...

WoW might be amazing and I may play it...

But the bandwagon of folks bashing SOE is too full, and I just won't jump on a bus like that.......

Blizzard will do fine. i am becoming more convinced that WoW is actually:

- 1 Part Diablo 2
- 1 Part Warcraft 3
- 1 Part Everquest

That being said, those are not bad role models...

Mantison you are very correct. Battle.net is not the same as what we have in top tier MMORPGs. B.net games host 8 to ?? players in one game. So Blizzard will have to prove it can deliver a stable product.

In many ways Blizzard has lots of things going for them , just like SOE had going into SWG. Both had fans that believed the company hung the moon. They could tell us to buy ocean front property in Arizona, and we would do it. However in the post SWG area, players need to be skeptical. Blizzard is known for releases completely finished games. However in the post SWG area, that does not mean crap to me. I will believe it when I see it.

BTW I will probably try out all of these games, depending on first hand reports from you guys. However I really like the Sci-Fi we have in SWG, and would like to see it strong in the face of all the new MMOs

Well I think SWG suffered from several factors.
1. It's Star Wars. People wil lalways be hyped to live in that world for some time.
2. The forums/devs never properly set the expectation of the customer base. They thought too big, pushed out the idea to the publoc and had a grand plan. Reality just bit them too hard and they didn't manage the situation properly.
3. I'm not entirely sure they understand their customers or listen properly. This could be because they have too many stakeholders with approval/veto power.

Enough major items where they were going to separate from the pack were just simply abandoned.

All in all I think SWG did many things right and I believe that my not palying the game has more to do with my life than my want right now.

For me personally, I will try each of these games above and make up my own mind. I realize I won't progress too far (which won't allow me to see the majority of content), but you have to make a decision based on the information you have (and I plan to have first hand information).

Manti, I couldn't agree with you more! Battle.net is populated with so many immature idiots, I can't stand it!...however, I love playing Warcraft 3...so I usually have everybody in the chatrooms on ignore...hehe..\\

p.s. Remember that I'm currently beta testing World of Warcraft right now, so I do have some knowledge about the game, and can possibly predict it's turnout.

-I'm kinda low on cash right now....and it will depend if I have money this coming fall...if I don't then it looks like I won't be playing SWG anymore, hehe. :P

Well, I won't join the 'bandwagon' but I will say I spent some time looking around EQ2 today. WoW never grabbed me and I think it's mainly due to the graphics. I like a game that looks 'real'.

EQ2 has promise. I'll definately be poking around it more when time comes.

I am biased but I can tell you from a first hand account that WoW is a great game and mmo, right now. Blizz is working on PvP atm which could make or break the game imo. I just wanted to jump on the SoE bashing bandwagon b/c I will never buy any of their games again.

Have fun in EQ2, let us know how it goes.

I think WoW is going to be released this coming December or Jannuary...but who knows. :P

I think the WoW beta testing has been at least going on for 4 months now, not two. It started towards the end of March, or the beginning of April, and it's almost August now.

For you EQheads, here is an article about a recent fanfest. Some interesting info on EQII, which I now agree doesn't sound like it's going to be released before WoW.

Enjoy!

Sorry, despite what Raph loves to harp about, I don't buy the "MMO's are a whole other animal" arguement. Blizzard has shown an amazing eye for game balance, they have an absolutely top-notch programming team unlike some companies *cough* and, yes, they have a corporate culture that prevents games from getting prematurely shipped and under-tested.

I'll take smart people with expertise over lots experience on crappy projects for my dev teams any day.

You mean it would be possible for a "all crafting MMO" with loads of unique items to be based on a crappy database ? Ho, wait...

I was surprised with all the Everquest 2 videos I've seen. The graphics do look really good, but now I just have to wait and see how the gameplay is.
