We need to talk about a draft date/time and scoring setup. The draft time is one I picked with the help of Cetera. It works for the both of us but let us know if it works or doesn’t for you. We will try to accommodate everyone.

The scoring setup is the same as the one we had last year. If there are changes we need to make let me know and I will make them.

I am always open to any suggestions. I will be checking this post a couple of times a day (you’re lucky your new Commish doesn’t have a life) and I will try to be on MSN as much as possible, or you can send me an email.

Welcome to the 2004 Season of the AFL! I wish all the owners the best of luck throughout the season. Let the trash talking commence.

Id like to play again this year but this prison (Army) that I am in won't allow me much time on the comps to keep updating my players like I would like to. So, the Mighty Gourds/Norwegian Blues will have to sit this season out. :x

Just 12 more weeks, thats what I keep telling myself. :x

Kaz Kickers, all signed up.

I thought that scoring looked familiar. :P There's actually a few tweaks to the way I had setup the scoring last year that I think might help.

Lower passing yards per point from 50 to 40. This provides a small bonus for those QBs who do the job of moving the ball down the field, and helps to lower the hurt for those teams that predominantly hand the ball to the RBs in the red zone.

Lower receiving yards per point from 20 to 15. I think that this should be lower than RB yardage scoring, because most teams generally utilize 3-4 WRs, 1-2 TEs, and the HB/FB for receiving yards, which spreads around scoring from that a lot. Rushing yardage is generally only split between the HB/FB (and the occasional Vick/McNabb), so the scoring for that is more concentrated. This will help balance the scoring between the WR and RB positions.

Lower return yardage from 25 yards per point to 20. Return yardage is often very sketchy, but this helps to boost the scoring for some WRs and even creates some "sleeper" players that don't get much receiving action, but are effective on special teams.

Increase the defensive scoring spread. Currently at 15/10/6/3/1/-1/-3, I think it'd be acceptable to increase it to maybe 20/15/11/7/4/1/-1/-3. Preventing a team from scoring even a single touchdown is a great achievement, and I think the reward of 15-20 points is more warranted than only 10-15.

And just to check, did you allow for fractional points? Without it, a lot of yardage scoring goes to waste.

Yes, I do have fractional points on.

I will make the changes suggested by Marrok. They seem like a good idea. The only problem is that there are 7 groups for scoring points aganst for DEF and you suggested 8. So I made every level 5 points less, except for (21-27 points) that is 1 point. Does this work for everyone? If there are any disputs we will try to find an even ground.

Exar, are you voting for the draft to be this upcoming friday? 8/20? Anyone have any reason why this is not a good draft date?

What about a specific time of day/night for the draft? Evening? Early or Late? 11pm EST?

I would like to bump the draft up to this Friday (8/20) IF we can get all the people signed up. If you want the draft this Friday then start bugging the ppl who have made posts on the first page. Look for more infomation later on coming up. I will make it very clear and will send out emails if the draft date/time changes in any way.

I am asking 2 (two) things from everyone. Feedback on the questions Ive asked above and please bug your friends(in-game) to sign-up asap. I am trying to catch everyone I can on MSN but its pretty barren. If you dont give me feedback this becomes a dictatorship and I do what i think is best, and you may not like that

Thanks

Awsome! We got 10 teams so far. This isnt that bad. I would like to see 2 more tams at least join us though. I also think that 14 team max would be good.

For the guys that have their emails in their profile I sent em an email just like some of yall got so if they check their mail they should know about this...

The draftdate is still Aug 30 at 11:00pm est. If we get 4 more teams I will bump it up some, like a week or so.

Welcome Flyoc, glad to see you decided to join us. Its always fun having players from across the pond join us in real football

One questions though, does the Magic Weasels have any history or meaning behind it? Seems a tad odd to me.

If you havent already, read up on the rules and contact me or any other owners for help.

If Arindel signup this weekend we will have 14 teams. I am happy with this number and would be fine with closing the league to signups. If someone still wants to join I will ask that person to find another member to play also so we dont get any bye weeks. But I am confident that we will not have any other requests to join after this weekend.

I can move the draftdate up if yall want. We might want to keep it though since I know it works for at least 3 people. The draft is set, atm on Monday 30 of August at 11pm EST. This is kinda late for all you ppl on the east and I know it doesnt work well for the ppl over seas. If you have a time that would work out better let us know and we will make a decision. Baring(sp?) anyone responding  I will add the date to the Events page.

EDIT: I just looked up the Bye Week rules and I found that Bye Weeks have been removed this year. We cannot have an odd number of teams. So if more than 1 person wants to join us he WILL have to find another member to play.

Arindel, what is wrong with that time? The date? The time of night? We can work together to find a time that works out for the majority, at least the active.

Flyoc, heres what you do. Go to your team page, on the page you will see a edit player ranking link. Click it. You will see another link that says the same thing. What you are gonna do is rank the players you want. now I dont know how closely you follow NFL preseason or how much you know about players and teams but if you feel confortable edit players you want and which ones you do not. If you do not want to edit then just leave everything alone. Yahoo! Sports experts have you covered. When you are not in the draft a "computer" will draft for you. When you come back you will have a full roster of players.

Aubai, very original

Are there any spots left to fill?? If not, is there anyone wanting to join to make it even?? I just saw this post today and I kicked myself for reading it so late. I love football and I'm in 3 Yahoo Fantasy Football leagues. I'd hate to miss out on Avian's FF league :(

Heres the situation as of this moment Enrico. Arindel and Zorrukk have both said "I will sign up this weekend/today" both have not yet done so. Its a first come first serve league so if you want to go ahead and join please do so. The only problem in Arindel or Zorrukk will have to sign up asap and make sure eachother get the simple job done. We cant have an odd number of teams so if either Arindel or Zorrukk decide they dont want to play we are in a bind and we will have to find another owner.

So to summerize, go ahead and signup. First come, first serve.

Heh, no way for me to follow the NFL here except by Internet, so I'll let the computer choose for me.

Hey Arindel, check the posts above for the ful info but short is you need to get another Avian member to join so we wont have odd number of teams. Zorrukk has told me he will sign up "this weekend" which ended a day ago... so... talk to him or any other person to get thyem to join with you.

Sorry bud, I just dont want to have to kick someone because we cant even draft (start the season) if we have a odd number of teams. I will talk to Zorrukk.

Once I get a conformation from you that both of yall will sign up I will open the max teams to 16. I wouldnt be doing this if I thought it wouldnt provide a better solution. If you want to talk about it, contact me on msn or here.

Hey everyone, I just got back to school this past weekend and for the whole week our internest and network was down. I just wanted to make sure I didnt miss anything. Two spots are still open and the dradt is still Monday. Arindel has first dibs on one of te spots but we really need another to fill out the 16th, it doesnt matter who that is.

UPDATED 8/28
Zorrukk is signed/signing up now. Arindel you can sign up at any point before Monday night. I hope we can get this done, and I think we will.

The Draft is OVA! Here are the results!

It went well and quickly, besides the few lag spikes I had it was fun. I would like to thank everyone who showed up tonight and wish everyone the best of luck during the season.

Barring the fact that I was in he 15th slot I think I had a good draft. I didnt get the players I wanted Tom Brady being the main one, but mostly a good solid team with only a few sleepers. I tried to ween myself to not be picking the deep guys and just pick em off waivers, esp since my wavier spot is so high.

How did you do in your draft?

I'm undecided about my draft. Most of my guys are middling or lower. I'm happy about Duece McCallister, and Olindo Mare, and I don't mind the Dolphins' defense. Actually, some of my recievers aren't too bad either. I guess I'll have to wait and see. Can I find out what position I was actually drafting from?

Actually, looking at my matchup against the Bossmenagain, I'm going to get my rear handed to me.

Edit again: I predict that this guy (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/418866/2) will win it all. He's got a really nicely stacked team. One of the top 5 QBs, RBs, and Defenses, in my opinion, and decent other players in the other positions.

I had about a million things to do tonight so I couldn't be at my live draft even though I remembered. I'm not too happy with how my team ended up, but oh well.
