Well I went and done it this time. Worked a gig on Sunday night and while grinding down a steel pipe I got a shaving in my eye. Went to the Doc today and after drilling into my eyeball for about 5 minutes she said I need surgery to remove it.

So 9am tomorrow I am going in. Wish me luck.

Thoughts of surgery in the eye /shakes (not pleasant).

I hope it all goes well and I wish you a speedy recovery (good thing gaming isn't really 3 dimensional).

well all went pretty well. At first the Doc thought he would have to put me under and go full on surgery but he thought he would try and scrap out the metel first before-hand.
He seems to get all of it out pretty easy so no need for the knive (thank god). He said there is still some rust in my eye (which is wierd) but he said that would work itself out naturally.

For anyone who has not had this done getting your eye scrapped is probably one of the most unpleasent things that you can have done. After the scraping he used a drill - yes a drill! to get the gets of the metal out.
There is nothing like the sound of a drill and the feeling of a tiny drill bit 2mm from your pupil.

So lesson learned I don't care if you are making one cut on a small piece of wood WEAR FREEK'N EYE PROTECTION!!!

Drill + Eyeball = Holy Shit they better put me to sleep!

You are right about the pain a metal fragment in your eye can cause. I got a chunk of lead contaminated slag in my eye one day when I was bulldozing piles of it into a cell. I had my eye protection on, but the wind was so bad that some slag was airborne and flew up inside my glasses.

It hurt so bad I thought my eye fell out. My body took over and closed my eye lid with an iron grip. No one was around to help me so I had to park the dozer, stumble all the way to the nurse’s station where they had to pry my eye lid open to get the metal out.

My eye was not cut... and the piece of metal was just a bit bigger than sand…yet the pain and physical body shutdown was no joke. So I can’t imagine how bad it could be if the darn thing was cutting your eye like you say. On top of that your piece was probably hot due to the grinding. Crap like that can immobilize any man… I feel for you!

Good thing is they say the eye is the fastest healing organ in the Human body.

Why would you not wear eye protection in the first place?

p.s. You should wear goggles like the dwarven engineers in World of Warcraft, hehe.

Are you on a first name basis with your home-owner insurance person?

Hope you're fully recovered in a month...wouldn't want any excuses or whining when you're getting your ass kicked

Aren't I the sympathetic one...

I remember when I got a little rock in my right eye. (The Bad one, bad since birth)
A little smaller than a pencils cone.
It was during a soccer game and we were playing on gravel. We doesn't have grass lanes up here.
Got the ball smacked up my head, fell down and I cried out so loud that the others thought I was crazy. When I stood up and I removed my hand from the eye, there was blood.
Fortunatly it was a small bloodvein on the upper eyelid, so I was lucky there.
