Obviously, I'm looking forward to playing WoW, but since I happen to live in Europe and Blizzard decided to make things hard for us, I'm limited to waiting for the european release and even then I'll have to play on the euro-servers. The big problem here is that I don't want to play on euro-servers, I'd very much like to play with my friends in Avian and that can't be done since I don't have a credit card with a North-American billing address.

Here's where the favor comes in: If some nice person somewhere in North America would be willing to register and maintain an account for me, I'm suddenly able to play where I want to. (Unless they use IP-filtering, which I strongly doubt).

I will of course pay for the account via Paypal or other means if someone's feeling nice enough to help me out. That person will also recieve my eternal gratitude however much that'd be worth...

So you need:

1) Someone to buy the game
2) Setup the account
3) Someone who can accept paypal transactions

You will:
1) reimburse the cost of the game
2) reimburse the cost of the monthly fee

Am I correct?

I'm sure I can manage to get the game box myself, although that'd take some extra time.

And yes, I will of course reimburse monthly fees and the cost of the game if I don't buy it myself, I'm not looking for charity here, just a way to play with Avians.

I have residence in the US
I am setup to receive money via paypal
I shipped Obo SWG when it first came out, I can do the same for you with WoW
I have plenty of room on my credit cards to cover your account as long as you are paying it back.

I just need to run this by my wife. As much as I want to help you, I need to pass this idea by her. It wont do you nor I any good if I end up on the street.... she is the one making all the money :)

I will try to convince her and get back to you as soon as possible.

Especially you...

Whatever the outcome is, thank you Cyrus, people like you are the reason I don't wanna leave Avian :)

Don't get yourself in trouble with your wife over this though, she's probably better looking than me :D

You can tell Danyale that I'll vouch for Kharlaq's character as well. I've known him just as long as you have. Of course, with all the trouble I've gotten you into with your wife, my word probably doesn't hold much weight with her, so leave that bit out of your story. LOL

I think I know an Avian who has the same request, which happens to be..me ! But I have to study the case of International Credit Cards, maybe they could work so I would just need someone to ship me the game

hmm, they may just not realize that this is an issue, or they may just not care too much about it. :(

They absolutely know this is a legit issue since most of the large guilds protested to them vehemently. They say it will be fixed in a few months meaning for the short term they don't care.

P.S. I will hook up one person if they can pay me through Paypal and tell me what will be necessary to get this done. They need to tell me soon as I can go back and get a second copy preordered.

Could the problem be with the publisher, and not blizzard? Perhaps they couldn't ship both American and European at the same times for some stupid reason.

No they are using the credit card address that you use to set up the account to filter your server choices. They know that performance will be better if players use the server in their backyard.... however many players will sacrifice some performance in order to play with friends.

They have reasons they think this is a good idea, but anyone who has overseas friends thinks this it one of the dumbest ideas in the history of online gaming.

Yeah, that part is really pissing me off as well. Seeing as I am here in Europe and a lot of good Avians are over there in the US, and I will be stuck here on a Euro Server with l33t speaking, ninja looting kiddies. Almost makes me want not to buy WoW at all. Microsoft tried the same shit with Asheron's Call 2 and fell flat on their nose. However, Blizzard due to their reputation can probably get away with it.

However, you have to consider the upside. This policy keeps the millions of Korean WoW players off the US servers as well. That has got to count for something.

And the reason they cannot ship US and European at the same time is, that Europena clients will be completely localized. The French get a French client and French servers and so on. Only problem is the British and non-French/German Euros will have to wait for their English Clients and servers a few months longer for no reason at all, except for them setting up the Euro servers later.

If anyone wants others to buy for them they need to advise now so the games can be preordered (every day counts). The price is set, the ship date is set. there should be no hold ups. I will buy and set up one account, just gotta let me know... and pay with Paypal. :)

Is it that bad? Good thing they are looking to hire new French WoW QA assistants to make sure it doesn't happen again.

So you should consider getting an original one and play with all the other Avians.

Luckily the German version wasn't half bad.

Time to get this organised :)

First of all, thank you to everyone who's offered to help out, I and I'm sure the other europeans greatly appreciate it.

Europeans wanting to play:
Kharlaq
Flyoc
Master Edward is unknown

Helpers:
tobiasds
bigyak
Cyrus is unknown

So far so good, we have two certain players and two helpers.
Tobiasds and bigyak, go ahead and preorder if that's not too much to ask. When we know who's helping who, it'll be time to get the payment details sorted.
As for shipping the game, I have no problem waiting for it to arrive, but I'll see if I can get an ftp-server set up as that would probably be easier for all of us.

It would appear likely that if you can somehow get in the open beta here, you won't even need the disk to play, only the cd key. Of course, I will ship the package to you but I could get the key to you much sooner.

If the client's the same, I won't even need the cd-key, you will have to create my account for this to work. I really hope the client won't change, would make things so much easier.

The client is unlikely to change but everyone will need the cd key they get when they buy the game. Are we talking about the same thing? When you go from beta all registration info will be struck from the computers, you will then have to enter a valid cd key (from a purchased box) to play. I will of course email you the key as soon as I have it.

Yes we are, I know I need a valid cd-key from a retail box, but I'm hoping the client will be the same from beta to retail.

What I'm trying to say is that I will probably don't need the cd-key at all, you will have to register the account which is where the cd-key comes in, the only thing I need is the acount info so I can log in on the account you create for me. Maybe I wasn't clear enough on this, but what I need is someone to pay for my account with a north-american credit card, the money will of course be reimbursed via Paypal.

So you think we should download the US client ? Isn't it the same as the actual Euro client ?

It's worth a try. The worst that can happen is someone sets it up for you and your downloaded copy doesn't work then you wait for the box to come in the mail. Best case is you are playing on the first day with the rest of us.

Hey Kharlaq,

Before I click the "place your order" button on Amazon.com -- do you want it with:

FREE .... Super Saver Shipping (5-9 business days)
$4.98 .... Standard Shipping (3-5 business days)
$9.98 .... Two-Day Shipping (2 business days)
$15.48 .... One-Day Shipping (1 business day)

Or, I could just pick it up at a local gamestore... I'm thinking the local gamestore will be quickest. I can stop by tomorrow and see if they'll let me preorder there.

Local gamestore sounds good to me, if that doesn't work, just take the standard shipping.

Ok, seems like bigyak is my nice helper, tobiasds, if you're still up for this. Flyoc is your task :)

I know I am being late here, but can one of you helpful guys hook me up with a copy as well?

I had to clear up a few things before deciding to invest in the US version now.

Thanks,

Edward

Thanks,
