Im a mage btw and I have equipped the thing in my ranged weapon slot. Cant seem to fire that thing though.

You have a skill called shoot. It will be under general in your skills menu.

Don't expect too much from it, I imagine there will be some decent wands closer to end game, but I usually get resists on close to equal level creatures. Even when I had the skill within 5 of being maxed.

Warlock and Priest can. I imagine Mage can to.

At level 36my wands are very nice..... But then I am a priest, so massive damage is not my focus. I tend to save mana for heals, so wands are my main non mana attack. I have no problem with resists.. but then I use my want all the time and my wand xp is always maxed.

It would be alot better if it was auto cast.

I agree, auto-cast would be nice.

But the only class who gets automatic ranged attacks is the Hunter...

To be serious though: Wands don't need ammo, they just mysteriously work, nobody knows why.
