I just picked up a 7200 120g Western Digital internal. My 5600 30gig I have now is getting really overloaded.

My question is, do I keep my 5600rpm as my primary and put my games on my 7200? or just dump everything to my 7200rpm dirve and use the 30gig as a storage drive?

Second option is better. :)
Put your OS and apps on the larger (and faster) drive and your multimedia stuff on the 30 Go disk.

Not that size matters, but speed does. :)

I do second option also.

I installed all my programs on the new, faster HD, and reset "My Documents" to the old HD

Also, condsider carefully which spot on the IDE cable your drives are going on... obviously, you want the fastest one to go closest to the mother board. Also, IDE isn't so great at transferring across the bus, so if you do alot of HD to HD copying, you want each on a seperate cable.

But, it's also kinda painful (not so much with newer drives) to figure out which one is slave and master and set the jumpers accordingly.

Just backup your stuff first, and try a number of settings.

backing up data should not be a problem. Changing the jumper cant erase data. Also it should have a diagram on the actual hd saying master slave and cable select. then just put the jumper where you need it and make sure its on the right cable. (the if there are 2 on the cable then the one closest to the mobo is the slave and the one on the end is master.

I thought it was the other way around.

nope, on the stripe the end connections go to the Mobo and the Master. The connection in the middle, the closest one to the mobo, goes to a Slave.
