Im looking at the Nvidea 6800 GT (BTW. My mobo does not have PCI-E so I need the AGP card) I'll also need to go VGA->DVI as I have two CRT monitors but don't think that is a big deal.

I really want the Ultra but I just cannot justify a $500 card. This would be my first Nvidia card coming from a Radeon 9800 pro 256mb.

My primary reason for switching is I need/want duel monitors for my work (...and gaming). ATI cards only have shared desktops 'duel view' where Nvidia has native Clone.

Anyone know if Clone settings work for WoW?
I've read the Toms Hardware review of the 6800 Ultra and it was a mad rave. I assume the 6800 GT will be high quality as well.
If you own a Nvidia are you happy with it?

I know you're a bit new to the tax thingy, but you know to keep all your receipts for any computer stuff as you can probably justify those purchases as being for work... along with computer books, computer magazine subscriptions, etc. As long as you really use it for work...

Also, if you have a home office, you might want to look into using that for tax purposes, too... Just make sure you can back up your claims, as that's one of the main things audited.

yak,
yeah Im a 1099 guy for the past 10 years so Im all about reciepts and such. As a 1099 (not W2) I could deduct $1 for every $1 I made. If you do it right you can deduct all your taxes and not pay anything, or atleast very little.

For a home office you need to have a dedicated room 'just' for your office. I work in my living room so it does not count.

but you are right: books, hardware, software even my movie tickets and clothes (work clothes) can be deducted - movies becuase I work in entertainment. :)

I'm not sure skin flicks for psychological testing purposes count... ;) Otherwise, I could have saved a bundle of taxes during my college days.

You're right to stay away from this one, Moge. When I took this job and started working from home, I looked into it. Sounds good at first but I came to find out that when you sell your home (no idea on renting), the gov't wants to see a portion of the proceeds of the sale of your house because of that write off, etc. Didn't take long for me to start to think that particular benefit may not really be worth it.

I have a 6600 GT and it is amply enough to play wow, up to and including the high end raid dungeons. (Up to Vaelastrasz, anyway :p )

i ahve one question what resolutions you all work/play with? I use to be a 1024/768 on my old 17in CRT and Radeon 9800pro ...but with my flat 17in dig input it auto sets me to 1280/1024 which is pretty big..i set it down to 1152/862 which seems usuable...any real opinons or is it more just personal pref?

I currently run WoW on its top graphics settings (can't recall resolution off hand at work) and it runs fine. All I get is the standard IF lag but I don't think that's usually graphics related. In instances I have no slow down whatsoever.

This is all on my 9800 with a 19" CRT and 1GB RAM.

i run on all maxed settings. FX5950 ultra, 1gb of RAM. i get a simple stutter when i enter the bank/AH area in IF. ither than that, no video lag whatsoever. my avg FPS is around 40. thats considering 20 in IF and 70-80 anywhere else.

When you guys say all maxed settings, you do now that the settings you see are specific to your hardware. Inside WoW’s video options, Danyale's setting limits and my setting limits differ. I have many more options as to resolutions. Her choices are much more limited.

So when you say all maxed settings, your settings may be your max level, but another persons mid level. I play at a setting that is not even available in Danyale’s options.

Also DF, you can adjust your UI scale allowing you to play at higher resolutions, but able to increase the size of UI buttons and text to fit you comfort level if you feel they become too small. I play at 1280X1024. I would like to go larger, but when I do it seems my screen edges become cropped, even on standard square settings. But I am running an old Radeon 8500 so I imagine the cropping has something to do with the age of my card.

I currently have a radeon 9800 pro 256mb with 1gig of ram. I run at 1280 x 960 85mhz. My settings are not maxed and I get zero lag other than a 20sec hang when I enter IF/AH bank area.

I'll play with maxing out for my card and see if that matters. My processor is only a 2.4 so if I lag I would put the blame there.
