Okay, reworked my talents last night....

31 in Marksmanship, as always, up to Trueshot (now with improved range of effect and power boost !)

The rest is all in Survival, I have Zero in Beast Mastery.

I have both "Killer" boxes, then 5 in improved Wing Clip, then 5 in entrapment, 2 in clever traps, and 2 in surefooted.

I think I am really going to like my new talent set up, I have VASTLY improved trapping abilities, and all I am missing from my old talent tree is Improved Scorpid Sting...

Also trained all the new pet skills, have Bear all tanked out with super armor and HP boosts, Bang is now Stealth capable and his armor is boosted, with Dash 3 and Claw 8...

Gonna go pet hunting this week to get the new Wolf, Scorpid, and Bird Skills... then decide what I want my third pet to be... I dropped the purple kitty Wraith to retain a empty pet slot for skill aqcuisition...

What do you other hunters think?

I am still muddling around with my respecing as I am torn. Initially thought about 20/31 BM/MM as trueshot seems rather nice and I'd still be able to keep all the goodies (i.e. scattershot, hawkeye, barrage) and have a few pts to pump up the pet more.

However, I also got tempted to go a full 31 into BM and turn the pets into sheer viciousness what with frenzy and that 31 pt skill. Intimidation causing a stun from pet was also quite appealing. The other 20 would go into MM.

I contemplated going into survival, and while the trap skills and even the one to increase health would be nice, I wasn't sure how much they would make a difference for me if Krynn is going to be doing mainly end game instance and maybe BG stuff now.

To make a long story short, I really need to play around and see how the new pet skills increase their effectiveness without needing to buff them up thru the BM tree. Mant - did you see a significant improvement in the cat or bear without using BM skills?

(btw Mant - how did you teach the cat stealth, inc HPs, fire res, etc.? Did you have to go and tame a new pet to get these abilities?)

Most of the pet skills are available from the pet trainer.

Stealth and the special scorpid, wolf, and bird skills must be learned from tamed creatures.

You can now reset your pets "skills" to get the max of 300 points (at level 60) to spend on pet skills.

It is a really cool system in my opinion.

I have never used Beast Tree skills in my talent builds, so I have no referrence to compare to on the beast skills. But the increased armor and HP for my pets from the new skills is AWESOME.

Ok, where do you reset the pet skills? Stable master? I was at a hunter trainer last night but didn't see anything there.

I'll see what info I can scrounge up on the forums.

Pet trainer. I did it all in the Ironforge location, hunter trainer, pet trainer, and stable master all right there.

I put 12 into BM and 39 into MM.

I got the 1k armor boost for Smokey his armor is now over 6k still haven't decided where to put the rest of his training points. I'm thinking about a 120 resist but not sure which school of magic.

So far I like my new setup.

yeah, the thick hide apparently will let you get the AC up over 6K on most pets ....

I like the utility of my trap set up for instance runs over a strong pet...

Even with the pet improvements, I don't think the pets will be able to last long in the instances...

but the new pet set ups are nice !!!

That's what I am wondering Mant - how effective pets will be in instances. I have no doubt in my mind pet would be awsome now during the leveling phase of the game but at 60 I just don't know.

Given the insane playtime needed to get anywhere in terms of PvP rankings, I don't think I'll be able to do much there either, where I read that pets are making a difference. Fast and able to solo PCs with Beatial Wrath activated.

Tough choice in any event. Now if only they reset the hunter unlearning costs to coincide with all the new skills to try out.

I have to agree with Mant on these points; my talent specs are based on a feeling that I'll still be soloing and farming with Zorrukk and hopefully shortly I'll be doing the instances with Zerina.

Training costs are VASTLY reduced, and your talents were reset for free this time.

I know they were free this time, just wish the 10s, 50s, 1g, ... cost for unlearning had been reset too so that we could play around with different builds and not break the bank doing so.

All in all, I went 31 in MM to get trueshot aura, and still have my other 20 pts to play with. Leaning towards becoming a trap master tho.

BM is very nice for PVE outside of instances and PVP

Instances still chew up BM pets from what I understand

I think I am gonna give my "tank" pet the fire resists as well, see how that helps in instances....

Might go get a turtle to try out their tank abilities..

Wow that is some good information.

My hunter is one of my third tier alts, so I don’t stay on top of all the changes like the rest of you. I really appreciate the information you guys are sharing. Thanks!
