I am playing a game called Marcoland now and have been for about 30 days. It is simple to play but deceptively complicated. It rewards daily play but doesn't require it. It also rewards players who can get on fairly early in the morning but also doesn't require it. It is played for free from a website so there is no download and no computer req except that you be able to access the web.

You start out with a character and you have 50 mana. Mana is used to do most actions in the game. There are many choices of what to do with your mana but they all improve your character. Leveling is not the primary goal but only partly a goal as you want to level slowly since there are level limits on who you can attack with or without penalty. If anyone is interested I will type up a guide as I feel it is very important early on to start your character out right before branching out. Give me a heads up here I will do the guide. Don't get started on the wrong foot, trust me.

Marcoland is at http://www.tiipsi.com

Signed up... would love some hints. I joined a town, got some strength up, found some gold, got whooped by goblins.

What's the quickest way to get strength/intelligence up? Praying?

I saw that one advertised. I'm actually still playing The Last Knights, but this will probably be my last age. ( http://www.lastknights.com )

I'm also playing Legend Arena. ( http://www.legendarena.com )

So toby, I'm guessing it is worth the time to get into it?

Ok here is how I think you should proceed through the first 10 levels and then what I think you should do after that.

The first thing you should do is go the city metal trader and buy 30 metal for 2700 gold total. Go to the market and list them at 300 each (max price for now but it might change) make 9000 gold back. Then buy 30 gems but keep them. DO THIS Everyday. When you hit 100 gems go to the tall tree and buy an extra mana point. Use all the extra mana points over multiples of 5 to pvp with. Yes you can pvp with regular mana... more later.

Now when you get enough money to buy a skill 50k buy metals finding. This is subject to change because of a recent rule change that made gems more valuable. Keep an eye out for changes to this rule. It might soon be better if you got gems finding. Use this skill everyday once you get it.

Pray. Pray Alot.
Now I would pray for strength with all your remaining mana from the get go. This will allow you to get a better weapon from your town and some armor. When you get strength up to about 20 then start getting some speed. Keep speed close to your strength but keep strength higher. Use spare points to pvp ie. not more than 4

The only way you should be earning points to level is using your pvp spare mana against other players. If you want to spend a lot of time picking them go on the ML List and choose guys around your level but with lower overall stats then you. Go down a couple of pages on the ML list (obviously this won't work the first few days because you will be on the bottom) then add everyone that is at your ower level limit. Your level limit appears when you choose an opponent from fighting or it is also on your home page. Don't fight below your level. You lose .2 pvp mana each time you do it. You gain .2 for beating 2 people above your limit. You lose .2 each time you are beaten as well so don't feel bad skimming the bottom of your limit for guys below you.

The fast method for choosing opponents is go to pick an opponent and just pick someone with a higher id # than yours. Trust me if you level slowly and pound your stats with praying you will destroy everyone around your level number.

At level 5 it is time to learn some magic. Choose the spell from the city spell shop that grants immunity from pvp for 10 mins. Once learned when you log on and are alive cast it immediately and try to do everything in the next 10 mins. If you are dead, then do your shopping, skills, then praying, THEN cast it and fight. Opponents get so scarce late in the day that you can get killed over and over just trying to get through your pvping. If this happens just quit and try later and pray for when you are high enough to get and cast this spell.

Always vote for MARCOLAND if you have the time. It gives you free gold and but more importantly magic point reloads and if you are luckier mana point reloads.

Get a mentor before level 2 if you are in a town. I am in Lucky 13 but moving to the guardians at level 10 (they are the elite town)

I will remember more later and answer questions here. Get a routine so you don't forget anything. Don't keep metal on hand because guys with pets will steal it.

My routine.

Buy metals use find metal skill then market all my metal.
Buy gems Neither are purchased from the market but straight from the city dealer at 90 gold each.
Go to tall tree if I have 100 gems.
Pray for stats.
Check armor, max it out, and then cast immunity. Heal at the town healer then pick opponents. Use all pvp mana.
Do my voting in the voting section. Basically I am done. Right now I am 83% pvp winning percentage but I started out real bad. Now I generally kill 25 people a day and get killed once or twice. You will be kickass from the start.

Over a month and counting and not even close to sick of it because there are so many things to do later. Learn Magic. Explore the dungeon. Fight in the arena. Etc.

Thanks, Rho. That was very helpful. Up to 4.3 strength, and got 5 PvP kills. Huzzah!

What towns you guys in? Get in a town because they offer free healing and free weapons. I am in Lucky 13 but moving to the guardians.

Right now I am sort of settled in a routine. I am now fighting in the arena but not really high enough to win anything. I also fight in a town legion and got a couple of kills there so far. I am yet to get any major magic spells except for immunity which you should start learning IMMEDIATELY after making level 5. It really saves on frustration. I also have yet to go to the dungeon as I am still very much in character development stage.

My vitals so far:

Ugh no way to easily cut and paste my stats but

Str 91 Spd 76 INT 11 protection 75 and weapon 75-95

In sum it all I am ranked 2726th but in adjusted I am ranked 351st and I have yet been able to buy magic food so I think I am doing ok.

Ooh I just challenged the best player under level 10 and won. Check me out in the city under Best of Marcoland - Level based.

Hope I can hang on to it.

Want to see one of you there at when you hit level 4 or 5

Golga is in Gathering of Legions town now.

Almost level 2, should hit it tomorrow. I spent too quickly on equipment that I couldn't equip yet. Didn't realize the encumbrance issue.

Forgot to mention that but doesn't it list that stuff when you view at the armourers. I would have thought RPG veterans like you guys would have figured that out. :? Oops.

Just joined in (Arindel)
Str is 5.750 (just prayed with all my mana)
Spd/Int are 1.0
Gold at 6646 (waiting for 10 str for better equipment)
42 gems
Went 5 for 5 killing with 126 xp

we'll see what tomorrow brings.

BTW, you need 5 int to get immunity. Also, I think I am in thebase city. Do I just want to head to Lucky 13? any difference there compared to the starting point? If I used all my PvP mana, does this mean others can't attack me?

Ok a couple of things.

Arindel is right, it is an intelligence requirement for immunity not a level requirement so by all means get the spell. Pray for int for a day or two to get to 5 int. It is free to learn, you will use all your magic points each day casting it but it will be a while before you need them for anything else.

Also NEVER buy your own equipment. Join a town and use their equipment for free. Lucky 13 is very active and has lots of gear. Most towns do. You are going to need your money later to buy gems. Also Towns have auctions where you can buy 70 gems for cheap and with the 30 you buy from the gem shop you will have enough to visit the Tall tree of Mana every day to gain extra mana points. These extra points will allow you to pray more eventually, so you will get stronger and quicker faster.

Further explanation of PvP. You can and should initially use the 1 2 3 or 4 spare points of regular mana to pvp with. Of course when you hit 5 extra you will be using it for your skill or to pray. Learn only one skill. You are allowed a total of 100 percent profiency amongst all your skills. The get geometrically better the higher you go. I got 32 metals from metal finding 53% today. I am told you can get 180 from 100% skill.

You gain .2 pvp mana by beating 2 opponents in a row.
You lose .2 with each loss or each attack on a player BELOW your level limit.
You can get pvp mana up to 50 eventually. I have 31 now at level 9. I should hit 50 next week.

Woohoo, got to Level 2 today!

When you have Magic: 2/4 (1 rel.)

Does that mean you have a Mana reload, or a magic reload?

The reloads all appear right after the thing they refer to so that is a magic point reload. I average one about every 4 or 5 days. I have gotten nine so far. I have gotten only 1 mana point reload though so I am guessing they are about 10 times harder to come by but just a rough guess.

Remember to level slowly so you will be powerful for your level. You will also eventually surprise someone that picks on you. I once got attacked by a guy in my own town 2 levels above me and I whipped him. I wrote him a very gloating email.

Yeah, I made level 2 very quickly and broke my undefeated streak.

I think I'll camp out at level 2, earn gold and just do praying for a bit. Is there a hard cap of stats per level (such as 10 per level?) I have guys attacking me 3-4 times before I get my 1 whack in.

I never hit the mana cap until level 8. It is 74 for 8 and 9 is 77 I can only guess but it might work backwards by threes.

7-71
6-68
5-65
4-62
3-59
2-56
1-53

There is no stat cap but they get harder to comeby as you get higher. I used to pray 50 points and get 3-5 stats. Now I pray 70 and get the same or lower. I have heard of upper level guys praying hundreds for a couple points. I still believe though praying and ONE skill is the best use of mana with odd points going to added pvp.

Yeah, they do say the mana cap is 50 + (level*3)

When I click on my town auction, it takes me back to the town main page.. so I can't get the 70 gems/day. Is there a minimum level or something?

At least in my town there is a 10 day moratorium on town auctions. That may not just be a rule for my town but a game rule for all towns. I just found out about it myself as I have joined the guardians.

Hit level 5 yesterday! Loving this game! I need immunity though I just started training it and I got killed like 5 times today already :(

Why do I get killed by people that are level 20 and above? What incentive do they have to kill a noob like me? When they do kill me, do i still lose the 0.2 pvp mana?

I am not sure of the difference in the notification but it could be they are training their pets on you. It could also be that while it lowers their pvp mana killing below their level, it is worth it if there are a limited number of targets. They kill a few guys below their level limit then kill some above to get the limit back up. The mana is wasted if you don't kill people with it.

How do town wars work? It seems very intricate, but I notice that when I'm in a legion and we're at war, I can't fight anyone. Is there some way to see when the war ends?

Other than that... I'm only level 5. I've been pretty bogger down with work, so haven't gone 100% on it, and even forgot to log in and train one day. Urgh.

Urgh.

When in a legion you move more quickly. If you're not in a legion you are out by yourself and get killed more quickly. You benefit your town more if you are in a legion. The town wars start at 8 am EST. If they are between two lightweights they are done in 15 or 20 mins. If they go longer they can take till about 0830-0835 to complete. After a war is a great time to start pvping again since everyone gets resed at the beginning of one and a lopsided win for one side can leave a lot of healthy peeps to pvp.

Also...

Not sure if you can have more than 7 reloads stored. I never can get over 7 so I started using them to pvp at reset and they build back up again. I would try to stay below 5.

There seem to be 2 types of reloads.

Mana (used for temple/dungeons/training) and Magic Use. I got my first Mana restore the other day and have about 6 Magic Ones.

I was talking about magic point reloads which are far more common (and less valuable) than a mana reload. I don't know if you can have seven total between the two or not so I am not taking any chances.

Also; the town wars will be taking place at 7 not 8 as I mentioned previously. They just changed it.

I've never seen one go more than about 30 mins but is possible that the two biggest towns against each other could go longer than I thought.

I've seen our town wars go over three or four hours... maybe longer. We're only size 7, I think.

Strange, because I make a living sometimes killing guys who were healed and survived their town wars at around 8:30 in the morning (now with the time change that would be 7:30). Lucky 13 and DnD are huge and win a lot of wars so they often have dozens of lower level characters available to pvp. Are you sure they just didn't start the war on time?

Regardless, if you are on right after a war concludes, expect some ripe pvp targets to be available.
