Don't make me start thinking about the cool systems we all designed back in Pre SWG days... it just makes me cry.

Something of note. I opted to try a hut. I started with 49/49 aftr about 20 start/restarts this was the highest I got.
By the time I had all the poles/logs in (I did start at the top) I was down to 32...I decided to scrap when I realised I didn't have any basketry and the first branch dropped the qual 3 points.

Aaaaannnyway. I then went back to bucklers. However now my projectsite_small is 3/3 quality (has always been 1/1) and my base buckler qual is now between 85-98!!. (three tries).

I am assuming when someone opts to concentrate on construction work then indeed high quality huts will be made....
Again an example of interdependability on others. Bear with me if this seems obvious:

Construction worker team - Basketry, buildings, construction, carpentry etc.

Buys branches/logs from a woodcutter so he can get high qual ones
Buys straw from a barley farmer so he gets high qual ones
Buys dung/clay/mud high qual from foragers or gather themselves

And so on...

This means that at a minimum 3-4 people external to the construction also profit from the building of a hut/domus etc.

When [name removed] and the rest of us worked in unison we were really humming along at a good pace.

As KFR mentions start a hut...work on it for a bit trash it and cut losses if need be but the skills raise and impact other areas.

Cheers.

The interdependency looks to be very important in crafting. Hopefully the subcomponents are easily made, and in bulk, as to not make the same mistake EQ2 did with crafter interdependency.

I have a feeling we'll be a supply chain to be reckoned with.

I want to do whatever it takes to get my hospitality complex built. Man I hope this game works and lives up to the documentation.

Alright, well, I'm done downloading and went to create my character but the page is down for maintenance. :x

Moge, are you in yet? Which of the 2 servers are we going to play on for the time being?

I'm actually a bit surprised the burnt and jaded can be so optimistic :P.

Kinda sad isn't it. It's like the people who spend their entire lives in and out of rehab.

Well, I've taken my first few steps in-game. Took me a few minutes to get oriented. Can we get a private forum for this please? (dunno what the NDA stips are actually).

 :P

Tobi, I meant so we can all go behind closed doors away from anybody outside Avian who happens to walk in unexpectedly.. not just for the ones who got into the beta.

Does anyone know what the current NDA is on this game? because I recall it saying something about it not being signed anymore, or not being enforced, and I can't remember what else it said.

I read in one of the posts that when the Beta that was to start in May 2005 started the NDA was to be lifted. I think it was in the State of Game post in the General topics.

When you apply for Beta, they ask you to check off an NDA.

Might be that they didn't update their system, but best for you guys (who are in) to be careful and make sure the NDA is lifted before saying anything.

Actually, they ask you to check off a box indicating you would be willing to sign an NDA if accepted. They do not actually get you to sign the NDA at that point.

http://www.roma-victor.com/game/guilds.php

Quote:
For Mercantile guilds, this will be a selection of any non-combat root skill (e.g. smithing). A modest (and invisible) bonus will then apply to all the members of that guild for that root skill and all of its sub-skills.
For Military guilds, this will be a selection from any combat root skill (e.g. Sword). Similarly a modest (and invisible) bonus will then apply to all the members of that guild for that particular root combat skill and its sub-skills.
For Religious guilds, this will be the selection of a deity. This might affect the abilities of the guild's members to call upon their chosen deity.

Although each type of guild has its own preset (and relatively historically authentic) rank system containing fixed ranks to maintain the varying levels of trust and authority within the guild, there are also special positions. Special positions are provided purely for the sake of guild management and no game system effects apply - it's just a title.

Lastly you may enter some Notes about the guild. This could be your rules, your charter or anything you like.

Of all of these choices, Special positions and Notes are the only details you can change about your guild after it has been created.,

I worry about the no monthly fee. That turns some of you on, but to me it is a negative. I like the great WoW content patches my monthly fees make available.

Do you think a non fee game will hold your attention for the long haul, or will this be just like another one of the several free web games we try out and quit after only a few months.

Probably has more to do with the barrier-to-entry in the MMORPG market.

Hard to take unknown developer group and enter the market. You get more draw from a 1-time fee (people willing to buy the game to try) than buying a game and expecting to get $10-15 permonth.

Thus, if the game has problems, the user base isn't as likely to get in an uprorar. My guess would be they'd have an add-on V2 planned that would use the money earned from this game to fund their next attempt at providing a game (and that would be pay per month)

They can always add new content through expansions, which will generate additional revenue.

But that's just it. It's not really free.
Sure there is no regular subscription fee, but they will allow players to buy in game money with real world money. So unless they have some magic system to prevent it you will basically have two choices; be a catassing grinder and spend hours upon hours trying to make an income via in game means, or dig into your wallet to keep yourself in the lap of luxury that you've grown accustomed to. And be damned sure you don't get yourself killed, because you don't get the money you were carrying back.

I can see it smelling of Project Entropia, where you need to buy cash to keep up or else you will be able to do very little.

How it really turns out won't be known until it is live for a while, as the real effects of this won't manifest themselves in beta.

I never last more than a few months in any game I try. :( I don't really expect this to be different.
