Yeah, I will be checking it early tomorrow morning. If I don't get a pre-order key I could always play EVE to tie me over!

Who would ever have thought three years ago that there would be more Eve talk on this forum than SWG talk?

I'm now Tiberius Baylorius Marius. Different than the full name I originally wanted, but it has a nice ring to it :)

Valerius, I'd love to meet up in test and get some tutoring if you have the time. I just need to get a handle on the basic functionality of crafting, collecting, etc.

X2, I'll look into it. I have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, and since I can see the gravel roads, I guess it supports shading.

**edit, looks like your video card won't support the shading. Here's a good review and test of your card. http://gear.ign.com/articles/357/357851p1.html

I was really intrigued by the game at first blush but now I'm getting the sense it's more tedium and repetition than entertainment. I've not written it off completely but I'm very much looking forward to first-hand accounts of the game.

/agrees with Rocklar

....but I'm a sucker or glutton for punishment and disappointment. Hell I ordered the game and will give it a try, but from what I hear I should've made my name Tedium Adfinitum....we'll see.

Oh, and to emphasize how much of a sucker I am...I actually ordered the EVE magazine for a year and now have a subscription...no matter that I haven't even finished the tutorial. I need to not drink and play these games....

Why, God? Why did you make me a sucker...thank God I make a bit of money to afford these stupidities...

hungry now, going for lunch.

Ok, here's the question, my set up is below par for the required specs, should I still go for the preorder?

If you plan on changing that in the next 3 months and playing the game when it goes live, I would give it a try.

Unfortunately that's probably not the case. I don't really want to go get the pre-order and then discover I can't play it and am preventing someone else from doing so.

On the other hand, it's a one-off cost, but still, buying new hardware could get expensive though I'll probably upgrade at some point.........

I'm not sure is the answer! I'm curious to know if anyone actually has the below required specs and is still very capable of running the game. I also want to know if this shader thing is a showstopping problem.

The video card shouldn't be a show stopped. But, from what I understand, the problems you will run into relate to the drawing of 2D objects. The biggest one I see people talking about is not being able to see the roads outside of the towns. The roads, inside of towns, are 3D models, made of cobblestone, etc. The roads out of town are 2D models on the terrain, and made to resemble gravel roads. What happens to people without the shader req's (not sure if all experience this), is they don't see the roads, but know they're on them because they can hear the foot steps on the gravel when they walk. Other things may include visually seeing the fertility of the ground for farming, maybe some resources etc.

I'll probably sign up and see what happens. If all else fails I may need to go buy a new graphics card sometime in Jan!
